The only place stating that it will definitely be available at a given time is the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, which is tapping a firkin at 7 p.m. Monday. Tickets for the tapping go on sale at 6 p.m. It appears that Bier Station could also be on that list of keg recipients, and KC Beer Blog thinks Martin City Brewing Co. might be one of the chosen. Smokehouse Bar-B-Que tweeted that they expect to tap a keg at 2 p.m. today. In the past, the Riot Room has gotten a keg, so consider that a possibility as well. Waldo Pizza won't get a keg but will have bottles.
Gomer's South (9902 Holmes) will have it in stock today (one six-pack per person, first come, first served). It opens at 8 a.m. I've found it in the past at Riverside Red X and the Hy-Vee on State Line after the crush. As always, please share your finds in the comments.
Remember, winter is the time to pack on winter weight. It helps you stay warm. One of the best places to do that is at Chaz on the Plaza (325 Ward Parkway), the restaurant in the Raphael Hotel where chef Charles d'Ablaing has just launched a new dessert menu, which includes an apple frangipane tart with spiced cider glaze and candied almonds; a mocha cheesecake with espresso Chantilly, chocolate-covered coffee beans and crème anglaise; and vanilla bean crème brûlée with fig and date compote.
Late-night eating is about giving yourself over to the secret desires of your heart. In Waldo, the Well's (7421 Broadway) late-night menu (available 10 p.m.-midnight Friday and Saturday, and 10-11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday) has got your heart covered or, should we say, smothered. There are chili cheese fries with green onions and sour cream, smoked salmon dip with flatbread crackers, smokin' chicken nachos (available with smoked shrimp as well), beer-battered fish and chips, and a crumbled Italian sausage (Mendolia's Italian sausage with smoked mozzarella, bruschetta, spring mix and balsamic vinaigrette on a toasted egg bun). The Well is also part of a new trend in which several menu items have recommended beer pairings.
Coal Vines (616 Ward Parkway) has a new happy-hour menu, 3-6 p.m. daily. The Plaza restaurant has $4 meatballs and Scimeca's Italian sausage and $5 chicken-parmesan sliders and calamari. There are also $3 beers and $5 Bombay Sapphire, Bacardi and Maker's Mark cocktails.
What have you got on tap for the weekend?
