Sammy's Pizza & Pub in Leawood has closed

The pizza oven has gone cold at Sammys.

Sammy's Pizza & Pub (13164 State Line) has closed in Leawood. The pizza joint in the former Zepi's Pizza space was open for just under a year. The pizza was nothing if not inventive. They offered Coney Island Pizza (chili coney dog reimagined as a pie), nut-free pesto, and the Mahalo, which featured Canadian bacon, pineapple and chicken teriyaki. Sammy's, owned and operated by David Royce, opened in March 2012.
