Celebrate St. Patty's and other weekend possibilities

Get some green out of your closet.
Find an awl because this weekend is going to end up adding a few inches to your waistline. There's no bigger weekend for Browne's Irish Market. The market and deli will host thousands of revelers beginning today, with an Irish breakfast at 9 a.m. and staying open until 6 p.m. Browne's also serves up proper corned-beef sandwiches and hosts live musical acts (yes, including bagpipes) 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. It's the perfect place to hit before and after the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Also, north of the river, there's the 29th annual Snake Saturday Parade at 11 a.m. Saturday. The annual festival (the parade starts at 14th Street and Swift) comes with a bier garden (the perfect place to watch the procession) and a host of carnival-fare favorites (corn dogs, funnel cakes and fresh-squeezed lemonade).

If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant (4686 Broadway) has a new happy hour that launched this week. The Plaza restaurant offers $5 glasses of wine and $6.99 appetizers, including the Asian BBQ pork-belly nachos, ahi tuna tacos, tenderloin sliders and Mexican drunken shrimp. All 45 of Cooper's Hawk's private-label wines cost $5 by the glass, as do the five kinds of sangria and bellini during happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Humankind just needs a few alternating bites of sweet and salty to be happy. Pig & Finch (11570 Ash, Leawood), the new gastropub concept from the folks behind the 801 Chophouse, has a happy hour that should take care of those needs. Alternate bites of the $3 pub snacks (Maytag blue-cheese potato chips, almond bacon brittle, pretzel bites and marinated olives) at the Park Place restaurant. Then wash those down with a $2 PBR draught or $6 glass of wine, martini or drink of the day. Happy hour goes from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

What have you got on tap for the weekend?
