  • For those who can't sell their significant other on a sports bar.
Catch basketball today at Conrad's Restaurant & Alehouse (210 N. State Rte. 291, Liberty). They have a respectable number of televisions, a sneaky good beer selection on 21 taps, and a solid happy hour from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Drafts are $2, as are longnecks and wells. Martinis will run $4, while craft beer is $1 off. Dig into rock house shrimp, queso Buffalo dip, boneless wings or onion rings for $3.99.

Tonight, grab a beer at the right or left corner of the bar (by the flat-screen TV) at Tavern in Mission Farms (10681 Mission). After 8 p.m., the bar happy-hour menu kicks in and you can gorge yourself on fajita steak sliders, Italian meatball sliders, barbecue chicken or pork sliders, and calamari for $5 apiece.

If you ever want to feel grateful for your microwave, just attend an open-hearth cooking demonstration at the John Wornall House (6115 Wornall). The south Kansas City museum is holding a cooking demonstration, designed to show how meals were prepared 160 years ago. The demonstration is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and is included in the museum's admission ($6 for adults, or $5 for seniors and children 5-12 years old).

Each spring brings another chance to have the garden you've always said you wanted. Find tips, new products and inspiration at the 2013 Greater Kansas City Home Show and Kansas City Flower, Lawn & Garden Show. The event at Bartle Hall (301 W. 13th St.) runs today through Sunday. Learn everything from garden-vegetable basics to how to convince your spouse you're ready for a kitchen remodel. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $8 online or $10 at the event. On Sunday, you get a second ticket with a $5 donation or five nonperishable food items for Harvesters.

Bonefish Grill has one major thing going for it: Bang Bang Shrimp. You can get a to-go triple for $19.99 this weekend (through Sunday). There are two area locations in the Northland (6332 N. Lucerne Ave.) and Leawood (5021 W. 135th St.).

What have you got on tap for the weekend?
