Re: “Nick's Italian Pizza

Re: “Tower Tavern

I am writing this review based on a very recent experience at Tower Tavern. This review is relevant to how poorly the staff treats their customers especially when they are favoring bar patrons who are friends of the staff and owner. This establishment supports domestic violence. Especially, one of the owners who is a corrupt, chauvinistic drunk who will publicly humiliate you with unscrupulous lies in order to protect his drunken investments who regularly feeds his insatiable alcoholic cravings. He has no regard for human decency or women. The owner that I speak of is the geeky drunk with the glasses, Grant, that stands on the side of the bar getting loaded with other bar patrons. If you don't mind this type of behavior, then kudos to you. However, if you have any decency and respect for women, then I suggest that you stay out of this place. Domestic violence should not be tolerated. As a business, Tower Tavern should do what is best to make sure that people are not being abused by their partners. It is not acceptable to humiliate anyone any more than what their abuser has already done, even if you are friends of the abuser.

Re: “Chiusano's Brick Oven Pizzeria

My Family and I stopped in to Chiusano’s on a whim. Growing up in the Chicago area I naturally love pizza. Having moved nine times since graduating from college I’ve grown to appreciate pizza in its many different forms. If you are looking for a top notch thin crust pizza Chiusano’s is the place to go. The interior atmosphere is warm and inviting. The bar area has three smalls TVs that cannot be observed from the main dining area. The staff is friendly, courteous, and extremely efficient. We began our meal with the sampler appetizer. The appetizer consists of buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, garlic knots, and fried ravioli. Priced at $12 the appetizer was more than sufficient for our small family. The garlic knots really stood out. For the main course my son ordered a small pizza with ground beef, pepperoni, Italian sausage, and Canadian bacon. My wife and I ordered a large “Speedway” pie. The "Speedway" pizza comes covered with pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, and onions. The pizza arrived at our table fresh from the oven, piping hot. The sauce is well balanced with the right amount of tanginess and sweetness. The ham and pepperoni had the right amount of salt, complimenting the sauce nicely. The mushrooms were thickly sliced and fresh. Finally, the crust is a delicious bottom toasted delight. If the quality of the pizza is testament to the kitchen staffs skill I expect the non-pizza entrees to be excel as well. If you are looking for a family friendly pizza joint and happen to be shopping at Legends or are nearby head to Chiusano’s. You’ll enjoy your dinning experience.

Re: “Blue Grotto

The pizza was amazing. Great service, and a truly outstanding pizza. Perfect crust, amazing sauce and high quality cheese. This might be the best pizza in Kansas City!!

Re: “Tower Tavern

The food is more bistro than sports bar. They serve wings that are good but the sandwiches are better. And it is more than just a burger or chicken.

The servers are friendly and efficient. There are plenty of screens and they usually don't blare the music too loud to prevent conversations.

Re: “Tomfooleries

To Tomfooleries Restaurant & Bar, I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME AT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT & WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW FROM DOING SO AS WELL!!! I have never received such terrible customer service from a restaurant before, especially when the food & drinks are subpar at best!!! Your management staff needs to have extensive training on how to speak with & treat customers, they turned an evening of good times and celebration into a very negative experience. Unless you retrain your night time management staff or replace them I think it will negatively impact your companies bottom line in the future!!!!

Re: “Bogey's Bar and Grill

Tried the Friday catfish special a couple of weeks ago and my mom had the shrimp special. Both were great -- very light breading, good crunch, nice portions, served hot, at a reasonable price. Server was very nice and checked back several times. We'll definitely go back.

Re: “Old Shawnee Pizza

Our favorite pizza on the KS side. They put SO MUCH topping on a single topping pizza, that it's our go-to. No reason to shell out more cash for a specialty. 2 medium single toppings for $18 with online coupon. Also, some hard to get toppings like meatball. Finally, they've put a bar downstairs; it feels like someone's living room, but it's really intimate for live shows.

Re: “Blue Grotto

Ate there last night (first time; Godfather table, with friends). I was not impressed with taste, esp. at the price.

Service was excellent except for server's representation of pizza size (she made it seem much smaller, and I didn't want all that food). I got the Four Seasons and found it to be soggy in the middle (outer crust was great) and bland. My friends liked their selections well enough.

My husband loved the asparagus appetizer.

He got the pork chop, and it was well plated and had nice apple puree/garlic garnish, but it was not uniformly tender (and also, alone, was bland).

My Caesar salad was o.k. I have had anchovies before, and the way they ended up tasting as part of Blue Grotto's vinegarette dressing was not tasty to me / tasted very differently.

Saw people I know, though, from around town, so it's a popular place. It was packed, and everyone else was happy. I have leftovers in the fridge, but I'm afraid of them : )

Went to Foo's for dessert (not me, them!), so can't comment on the sweets.

Re: “Blue Grotto

First off, it must be noted that both the previous review as well as the restaurant description are a bit dated. Not only is James Landis the current head chef (who, I've discovered, has been a part of the Green Dirt Farms dinners for the last 2 years and executed delicious perfection to a sold out table on both occasions), but his keen eye in comparison to the previous chef would not tolerate inconsistencies in food service or presentation. Blue Grotto is hands down my favorite pizza place in Kansas City and the exhibition kitchen showcases the care they put into all of their food along with the absence of frozen or pre-packaged ingredients. After chatting with the bartender, I was informed everything is made and assembled in house including ingredients for their signature cocktails (try the Spring Basil martini for a slightly sweet herbal refreshment). I brought a group of friends here for a special dinner a while back and we requested to go off-menu for our meal. Sometimes I don't always make the most thoughtful decisions but let me just say that was the best menu choice I've made as we enjoyed a 9-course menu with 5 short courses followed by their artisan pizzas, a lemon sorbet palate cleanser, an autumn-inspired poached pear dessert, and house-made truffles to top it all off. Because of our request, we had the privilege of sitting at what they call the "Godfather Table," which provides a bird's eye view of the whole restaurant. Here's the bottom line: the ambiance of this cozy neighborhood pizza and wine bar, with its wooden patio and cushioned benches huddled around stone fire pits, adds a soul-enriching vibe in addition to sating one's palate for fresh handmade pizza and delectable antipastas, small plates, and of course dessert. Grab a beautiful glass of deep red wine and enjoy the upcoming patio weather.
Rating Detail:
Food:10
Service: 10 (especially at the bar)
Atmosphere: 10
Value: 10+ with one of the most extensive happy hour menus
Overall: Just guess ;)

Re: “Blue Moose

Place to drink and watch the " Glory days " former East/ Jayhawk wanna - be' binge. Food unpredictable, surly wait staff more concerned with clearing out the tab and getting on. Could ah, would ah - with the right staff. Dark, silly but a place to go when desperate for an overpriced beer.
