Re: “Gusto Lounge - CLOSED

Wow! I'm shocked at this place. Doorman took my beer from my hand as he chanted "n--ger move on, n--ger move on". Absolutely despicable for 2010. I'm still shaking from the shock of hearing that (surreal to hear the n-word). Gusto doorman also called some other blacks "spics". I dont know what that means or what he was trying to get at... I'm still in awe...I'm sickened by this place. Please don't ever judge KC based on this ignorance and racism. disgusting. disgusting. disgusting.

Re: “Side Pockets

Sports Bar Redefined - If your definition of a Sports bar is a good looking wait staff, plenty of TVs, and cold beer then Side Pockets advertising is dead on accurate. Their wait staff is a bunch of rude, lazy, fat chicks that serve almost cold beer. The TVs are ancient too. I have a new slogan for them. Side Pockets – A Study in Bad Management.

Re: “Nara

My 2 sisters and I just went there for one of our birthdays. We did't have a reservation but there were many empty tables. The hostess asked us if we could be done in an hour or if we wanted to wait for a table. We said we would try to be done. The waiter was instructed to stay close by our table and make sure he took our order timely. after just 45 minutes, the waiter brought over the check and and the host came with him to tell us our time was up. We asked if we could be moved to one of the many empty tables. we were told they were all reserved. They were very rude and nasty and made sure to embarrass us and make us leave our table even though there were many empty tables when we left. The explanation was that they were all reserved. Until tonight that was one of my favorite places. I will never eat there again because of how badly we were treated. When we tried to complain to the girl at the register, she put her hand in our faces and said "good night ladies"..... I am very sad and disappointed.

Re: “Side Pockets

Side Pockets is a bar, grill, pool hall. The emphasis is on the bar-grill portion of the business. The tables are not well kept, and are badly in need of maintenance. If you are going somewhere to play pool this is one establishment to skip. The food is good for bar food, and they have a good selection. However, the service is terrible, and this is evident by the lack of lunch business. There are several leagues that play at Side Pockets, and this is what is keeping the business a float. On non-league nights Side Pockets is deserted. There are many more places in Kansas City with better food, better staff, and cheaper fun. Don't settle for Side Pockets in Lenexa. On a side note - the Side Pockets in Olathe, and Bonner Springs have already gone out of business, and I see this one going under soon also.

Re: “Location-less Comments

Our experience was subpar and well below our expectations and the reviews we had read prior to our reservation. The open floor plan seating arrangements did not allow for the romantic dining experience we thought we would encounter. The tables were so close the waiter would put his derriere in your face when taking our neighbors order. The host seemed confused when seating us and then told us he was actually our waiter. He was extremely soft spoken and hard to hear or understand and neglected our simple needs for water and cocktails and removing our plates when we were finished eating. We asked for reservations at Manifesto when we arrived, he did not take care of them until we were finished eating and we ended up on a waiting list and never went. Our dining experience started with bread rolls that were so hard we could not break them with a knife or by breaking them on the side of the table. We asked the pasty waiter for another softer roll and he seemed offended. Next came our starter dishes, we had a spinach salad that seemed like it was sitting for a while; the leaves were soggy as were the croutons. The Bisque Soup was acceptable but not garnished as well as our neighbors. Next came our main courses, we had Tenderloin and Lamb; both entrees were lukewarm at best on cold plates. The lamb had a broken leg and the taste was very gamey. The tenderloin was good, but cold and very small portions, we had one slice of meat and our neighbors had 3-5 slices and their presentations were very professional as ours was not. Finally came the deserts, which was the best part of the meal, although my butterscotch pudding was lukewarm instead of chilled. After we finished our meals our dishes sat for some time, we had to ask for our check several times, and we were never asked if wanted another cocktail. Our dining experience was one of the worst in the Kansas City Area, and for the price, which was extremely high, we would have expected one waiter attending to our every need, not understaffed waiting on 7 other tables. We would never go back.

Re: “Spivey's Bar and Grill - CLOSED

Went to see Colby and Mole with my girl. Saw another couple walk in the door. A drunk patron started trouble with the female that had just come in. It ended quickly but the drunk lady quickly started the trouble again and invaded the personal space of the other female. The other female pushed her away and was then asked to leave by a very rude bartender. The bartender followed the couple out of the bar (the bartender was the only visible employee at the time, leaving the bar without supervision). Once outside the bartender engaged in a physical confrontation with the female and allowed several other patrons to go out in the smoking area and shout obscenities as the couple left. This place should not even be open and the bartender should have lost his job. I am disgusted with this establishment and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even as punishment.

Re: “Twin City Tavern

I have never been treated so badly in my life from the staff at this place. The staff called us kids, decided it would be a good idea to shake a dirty salty and sandy rug all over us then decided it was ok to drink heavily on the job and yell at there customers.

Re: “Paddy O'Quigley's - CLOSED

The food is just OK but the service is the pits. 1st trip in, got billed for 15 extra drinks and it took 20 minutes to get my bill cleared up. 2nd time in, I gave a credit card to the waitress when I opened my tab and told her I would pay in cash. It took 40 minutes to get a very average hamburger. I paid in cash and found out 2 days later the waitress ran my card for $20 too. The Manager only gave me the run-a-round and refused to help. Had to get my money back through the credit card’s dispute process. MY ADVICE - STAY AWAY!

Re: “Harvey House Diner - CLOSED

We made the mistake of giving Harvey House a 2nd chance in Dec 2009. We also went last year it took them 45 minutes to bring four poached eggs (after they first delivered 3 fried eggs and then 4 hard-boiled eggs). This time, it took them an hour to bring our food -- and it wasn't even busy. They told us they were no longer serving eggs, even though the sign in the lobby said they now served breakfast all of the time. The hamburger wasn't right, the taco salad was bland, and ALL of the lettuce in the side salad was completely wilted. They're friendly, and it's a neat atmosphere, but don't go if you want to order food.

Re: “Domo Sushi & Grill

I went to Domo recently to eat, because of all of the great reviews. Unfortunately for me, I had horrible service. My waitress (if you can call her that) took my drink order, but then never returned for 30 minutes with my drink, or to take my sushi order. I gave her another 10 minutes, with still nothing. I got up and left and thanked her for her unusual service. I will never be back!

Re: “Lidia's

After reading the reviews and listening to others talk about the restaurant, we brought out of town friends here on a Sat evening. BIG mistake because the restaurant was packed and very loud. Out of 4 entree's, one had to be sent back, one was cold and should not have been, and the other two were rated "fair" but not worth the price. I could not recommend to others and would not go back. The server did her best but could not overcome te poor quality of the kitchen.

Re: “Location-less Comments

For being one of 10 customers (in the whole building) service was slow and they seemed to be out of everything I tried to order. Honestly I have had better burgers from McDonalds... I remember when this was the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights not so much now. I don't know what happened but I will not come back and would never recommend this place to anyone.

Re: “Julian

This restaurant can simply be described as not great. In a tiny seating area the open kitchen neighbors your food and the atmosphere is very loud, disruptive, and definitely annoying. The menu is a tiny strip of paper with few options in each category. Only about 9 options in the main courses, and each costs at least $10. "Ten dollars", you say, thats not so bad. Well thats what I thought until I sampled the food. Small, one portion meals with no sides (unless you want to pay seven dollars for a scoop of something) hardly satisfy. RIDICULOUSLY overpriced average food. A small bowl of macaroni was what my daughter ordered, and i kept looking up to see her face contort into yucky faces. She said she later preferred the kraft maccaroni. And what was up woth those starters; Soft pretzels with mustard? For 7 dollars? I ordered the paella and it wasn't the best. Filling food, if even that. And what do I discover, A bill of 81 dollars. Ridiculous. 14 dollars for a bowl of macaroni. 7 for a lump of overdressed salad with no topping but cheese. No sides. No satisfaction. No happy. This place is overpriced, overrated, fancy faux gourmet food with bad results. Tummy ache anyone?

Re: “Jay Wale's Bakery-Bistro (CLOSED)

After being assured that the perfectly beautiful sugar cookies were made in-house, I tried to eat the most beautiful, worst cookie that I have ever eaten. THE COOKIES ARE NOT MADE IN-HOUSE AND ARE HORRID. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN...IF THEY LIE ABOUT THE COOKIES...JUST HAVE TO WONDER ABOUT THE REST OF THEIR FOOD.

Re: “Rick West Theater

As far as I am concerned the Rick West show is one of the worst so called "professional Shows" in Kansas City. I don't know how long it has been since Rick West has picked up a guitar in Branson, but his show is far from being on par with any of the contemporary entertainers i have seen in southern, MO. West's show is absolutely unprofessional. There are players making mistakes, singers who can't hold a tune, a sound woman who needs to get a real job and repetitive incidents of West bossing people around in the middle of shows, adjusting and directing the sound person and lighting requests. If you want to see how it isn't supposed to be done this is the show for you. I will only take you one trip to the Rick West Theater to get what I am communicating. If you would rather get some value for your ticket price you might check out some other class night clubs or venues in the KC area. This is one place the train wont be stopping.

Re: “The Classic Cup Cafe on the Plaza

I recently went to breakfast at the Classic Cup in Kansas City with the staff from my office. I have dairy allergies and ordered a cheeseless veggie omelet and received an omelet with cheese. When pointing this out to the young waiter, he did not look at my omelet but firmly confirmed there was NO cheese on my omelet. Thought maybe I should talk to the manager. She came to the table, did not introduce herself, did not ask what the problem was, but immediately started the conversation with "My chef has been here for years and I believe my chef, if he says there is no cheese on your omelet then there is no cheese". She, too, did not bother to look at my plate. I was astounded! What blatent bad customer service from a MANAGER of a respected local restaurant! So sad, when I can go anywhere in this city, ask for an omelet without cheese and if it comes, have it taken care of professionally. HORRIBLE SERVICE!
