Re: “Streetside: Five hours at the 2014 Missouri State Fair

Love the fair, and I probably have been to more than half the fairs that have ever been staged. It's my one chance to eat a corndog and have a beer while watching the mesmerizing Angus judging. But I have always found the Midway creepy. I'm sure the rides are inspected, but I just can't trust them. And the sideshows? Well, I just don't want to encourage any of that stuff. Other than the Midway, everything shuts down around 9:00, just when it is getting dark.

Tiny Tina was there last year. I'm sure she gets a disability check on top of everything she makes being a sideshow attraction. I found her booth disturbing as well.

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

All of the above true...you need to control what the vendors charges for food and simple water...expectly when the temp is over 105...there should of been at least free watering station for people to get free water when it's hot. Umbrella should not be allow people are so disrespectful when it come to others...vendors were terrible. If this guys is true to say he will bring a better show to KC I will attend, but allow the best vendors in not the ones that food taste awful and they want to charge 15 on items they sell in their resturants for $6.00...Kinsfolks I will not pay for this again in KC.. will be watching from the outside of the fence....selling food that will be reasonable. Jeffrey Osborne, Lakeside and MC hammer would been better than Shai(three songs)..Cameo lost me.

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

Never in my wildest nightmares did I see this coming. This (so called) Soul Food Festival was so poorly planned after 2 days I'm still shaking my head. Had planned this past weekend as a little getaway for me & my wife as a 22nd anniversary gift to each other. Between hotel, tickets, food, drinks & extras, I spent around $ 500.00.But it wasn't about the money, it comes and goes, this was about spending time with my misses and music. I am a big Mint Condition fan(and was but not anymore a big Cameo fan),My wife is a Real big S.O.S band fan.To sit out in the extreme heat, and wait for over 5 hrs just to hear 3 bands play was not what I expected in the least. To add insult to injury, the service was poor, the drinks were hot as well as over-priced. $ 15.00 for a 5 piece wing dinner was on some bullshit. Where was the soul food ? Beer and sodas that were so hot they felt as if u just bought them at the store 10 minutes prior to being opened is insane.(Could have went 2 the local Church's chicken). No apologizes, no thank you, no encores by any group( guess they were just as hot and tired as the crowd....but they got paid( hope they got their's up front...lol). Wife was very disappointed, soon as we got outside the gate, The S.O.S. band came on. U wouldhave thought that enduring what the great crowd went through, they would have done more than 3 songs ( or let folks(pun intended) back in. Now have to find a way to make it up to my wife for this atrocity, (but who will make up for my time ?). I will never ever attended anything with the Kinfolks name attached 2 it. Kinfolks are supposed to be family, but this left me & my wife feeling like red-headed step-children.......

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

This concert was CRAP! Never been to something so poorly organized and ass backwards. After Mint Condition, it took one hour and fifty minutes before Cameo came on. No explanations. No apologies. Then another 45 minutes before SOS and they played three - yes three - songs! There set was a total of 20 minutes! Absolutely terrible. I know 107.3 had nothing to do with it but they should at least let people vent on the radio. Too many people were upset and booing the entire time because it was so bad. Never ever again.

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

First, I would like to affirm all the accusations mentioned in the above article. This is exactly what happened in K.C. Oppressive temperatures at or near 100 degrees and these FOOLS had the nerve to announce that all umbrellas (of approved size) must be closed because they were blocking the view of others who paid "good money" to see the show. Later, they announced the individuals were fainting and lectured about the importance of staying hydrated! Vendors were few and far in between. Lines were ridiculous! After 8 hours only 3/5 bands had played. We decided to leave the park at 11pm and watch the remaining acts from outside the gate. However, as a final slap in the face, we were stopped at the gate and told that we could not remove our $7 styrofoam (non-alcoholic) lemonade cups from the park. So we had to drink it all or throw it away. Keep in mind 3/4 of the content of the large cup was precious ice, which was being sold at $2 per tiny cup. I could rant on. Bottom line: SHAME on Kinfolks, SHAME on all the K.C. VENDORS and PROMOTERS, SHAME on the city of K.C. Parks and Rec. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

Between my ticket, food, drinks, gas money and lodging...I spent $310. I feel as I have been RAPED. VIOLATED to the highest degree. It is VERY hard to deal with "black folks". We were treated like trash and criminals from entrance to exit. Very inhumane. They sold us $2 bottles of HOT water, then charged $2 for a cup holding 3 or 4 cubes of ice to make it cold. I am thoroughly disappointed. I feel disrespected deeply. At a time especially where we need to be united and showing each other love and deep respect and affection...we were treated WORSE than white people have been accused of doing. I can't believe this whole weekend was a total loss. I am truly agitated. Something must be done!!

I also attended KC soul food festival. I was excited about the venue! People must b true fans of these groups because it was HOT! I was very disappointed! The "technical difficulties" were ridiculous! Too much time between acts! Due to them, we didn't even get to see Guy or SOS! We drove 3 hrs . I barely saw any performances due to the woman with the huge umbrella in front of me ! Preferred seating my ass!

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

and to respond to chrismasb30@yahoo.com - don't hate on them for not advertising. It would have encouraged more people to come out and be ripped off. The Pitch generally does a good job with anyone willing to pay to advertise (they are a for profit paper). I'm positive this isn't racial in any way. And if you attended this sham of an event, you should still be irritated or whatever about that, not a lack of advertising. As far as I'm concerned, 103.3 and 107.3 should be apologizing or at least having some dialogue for the people of KC

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

This was the sloppiest, most unorganized rip-off of a concert I've ever been to. There were more than an hour between some sets. It seemed that they had never set up for a band before. We sat in VIP and I am not sure what we paid for. There were no concessions or amenities in our section. The lines were ridiculous, they RAN OUT of bottled water, charged $2.00 for tiny cups of ice in 100 degree heat. And shame on the service staff - no thank you's, no good service, no personality, no nothing. I will definitely NEVER EVER attend an event by this organization again. Ever. Ever. And Kudos to Mint Condition who was the only group who acknowledged, in a subtle way, that the event was crap. They are always a class act and the reason we paid. All future ticket purchasers, be warned - no matter how much you like the group, DO NOT GO! They won't be on the stage for more than 20-30 minutes anyway

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

This concert was extremely UNORGANIZED!! It took 1-2 hours in between sets for acts to come on and sing for 15 minutes with horrible sound! People were passing out in the heat IN LINE to get $2 water. 6 people fainted before 7pm. I listened to Guy while walking to my car at 12:25am!! Done with them

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

I have been to most of the fest. this was the worst, the time to change over in between acts was way to long and way to much /the lines for bathrooms and food was crazy /and what really upsets me is that whoever was in charge never once came out and spoke to the crowd /for a $50 dollar ticket in the hot sun ,I felt the crowd was treated with no respect /but in many dealings with our folk we tend to never see the big picture ;make $5 dollars today and screw everybody or do people right and make 5,000,000 I would want to sell ltickets for life vs one year /make people want to come back is what I always would want to do /I will never attend again

Seeing as christmasb30@yahoo.com was so passionate about this event, I am shocked not to see any follow up comments....

Good ol' Chuck Byrd.

Likeable as hell, but dont take his checks. When he was in the body shop biz, he wrote more hot checks Frank DelMurro.

And thats a lot.

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

This was the worst show I have been to. We had more intermission than concert. All the groups were a mess. Some couldn't sing and others didn't even attempt to give a good show. I will never go again. As hot as it was they could of given out free water for our 2 hour wait. Chris Paul and Huggy Low Down left before Cameo even on at 9:15. I thought they were the MC's. Don't spend your money on anything the Kinfolks name is on, because you will waste your money.

Re: “Kinfolks Soul Food Festival has swindled several cities this year. Is Kansas City next?

KC did not end Kinfolks' run of bad nights. I'm sorry to say this article is true, in every word printed. I just wish I had read it before I purchased 7 tickets at $35. Where do I start...The intermissions were 1-2 hrs between performances, only to watch a group perform 2-3 songs. The sound system was horrible, $15 for 5 chicken wings and fries, cat fish tasted like they caught it n Jersey Creek, drinks $7 for lemonade, $2 for water...Wow I can go on and on. But when Aaron Hall of the group Guy, said he was going to give us the best performance he could, dispite what the promoters said, it was confirmed, the people of KC had been bamboozled. I will never attended another Soul Food Festival, I will from now on listen outside the gates of hell, for free.
