Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Charles, truth is in the eye/ear of the beholder, yes, but please consider why you had to take most every opportunity to make many of this restaurant’s tried-and-true attributes negative. What is it that made you go for blood?

I usually find your reviews insightful and fair. Instead, I perceive that you not only threw balance out the window, but you took a very positive business development in Leawood and spun it into a hurtful story based on the most stereotypical and negative exaggerations of the facts.

I hope you will reflect on this perspective and consider, in the future, not approaching with a hatchet in your hand.

I have had many of the menu items you reference and have found them to be delicious.

Re: “Roots Revival

Great article, but too bad the Pitch doesn't do more on Missouri like this. One correction, Chariton County had the 5th largest slave population of the Little Dixie Counties. The first was nearby Lafayette, which was followed by Howard County. Both counties were important hemp producers and Lafayette was the State's leader in hemp. Howard County was also an important tobacco producer. Both counties along with several other nearby Little Dixie counties also had large plantations that held as many as 20 to 100 or more slaves working on 500 to several thousand acre estates. The largest slave owner was Jabez Smith, who is reported to have 300 to 400 slaves. Smith lived in Jackson County.

I'm surprised the Pitch didn't block the IP addresses, and remove the positive posts of those who disagree with Angela. They've done it before when people have disagreed with Charles F.

Re: “Boulevardia Taps & Tastes tickets go fast

I'll just go to a bar and drink the same beer for quite a bit less money. There's no draw to this shitshow.

Re: “Boulevardia Taps & Tastes tickets go fast

Boulevardia (T&T): $75 too much for a nation filled of beer I CAN get anywhere in KC (minus 4-5 breweries)....For those who REALLY wanted taps and tastes tickets, try one of the many brew fests this spring and summer for under $40.

The astute observer will note how easily the government can find ways to get things done to benefit wealthy interests. Keep that in mind next time one of them is singing the blues about how they just can't manage to do something that actually benefits the public.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

The notion of a diner being a place with greasy spoons and a gritty atmosphere is a thing of the past. Paradise Diner offers a fresh, delicious, diverse approach. This is not an old train car on a dead-end track in the West Bottoms. Complimentary valet, cool decor and a diverse menu. Why does the reviewer see this as bad? No one enjoys every dish on a menu, but we all have our favorites. I go to Paradise on a regular basis and have my favorites, which I always enjoy - and are served with a smile.

I have eaten at Paradise Diner numerous times since it opened and with each visit I have had an exceptional meal and a wonderful experience. Your review is so off the mark, I question your motive for writing such a piece. It seems you hate variety, valet parking, and all-things Prairiefire, while struggling with your second career as an interior design critic. Try Paradise Diner for yourself folks... you won't be disappointed.

Re: “Report: Kansas was the only state last year that had an increase in the percentage of residents without health insurance

Brownback is ruining the state of Kansas. The majority re-elected him and it makes me wonder wtf I am doing living here. Taxes are steadily going up while good paying jobs are going elsewhere. Welcome to the land of the poor. If something is not done about taxes Kansas will continue to lose jobs and not be able to attract new industry. Kansas is in a lose-lose situation.

Local Pig Westport and the East Bottoms have been top notch in my experiences. I will watch and see how this venture turns out. Good luck to all involved. Going to Local Pig Westport tomorrow for dinner.

I like the Paradise Diner. I find that it has great food, great service and a charming fun environment. Personally I have never had a bad day there and I go there often. I also like the extreme cleanliness of the place.

Re: “Prairiefire's Paradise Diner gets only the wrong stuff right

Can't agree at all. I've found the food consistently excellent, as have most of the out-of-town visitors I've brought over. Cory's salad, the bacon-wrapped dates, the stroganoff, the polenta...OK, I'd better stop, I'm getting hungry! I think Angela is a little (?) too hung up on the word, "Diner." She faults Paradise for NOT being a greasy spoon, and being too classy (go figure). If she feels nostalgic, maybe the roller grill at the 7/11 would be more her speed.

Re: “Free State takes over Bier Station, Mother's invades Lawrence, Cinder Block launches throughout KC and more beer events

Is DogFishHead ever coming to KC? When I drive to Denver or Dallas or Tennesse I always bring home a truck full. Really, Boulevard puts out more midiocre, over-priced beers than old ladies have shoes in their closet. A Hershey bar in a bottle of Coors Light is better than than Vards chocolate yellow snow. This town needs a good beer. Founders has a few good seasonal beers, but they are also over-priced and the stores have a one bottle or one four-pack limit, what a joke. What the fuck good is a four pack? Anything less than a case is only a teaser. Maybe one of these newer locals has something worth trying.
OK, Free State is making some headway. Old Backus Barleywine seems reliable. They are my local go-to.

Re: “Report: Kansas was the only state last year that had an increase in the percentage of residents without health insurance

Obviously, this is more numbers manipulation meant to slander the great Sam Brownback and the Koch Brothers. What did they ever do to cause such resentment?
God Bless

Helped to send Sebelious to Washington to help craft the legislation and thus bring about their crafty plan? Politicians rely upon an opposition to continue their thievery.
I have to deal with people like these everyday.
I intentionally mis-spell words in the documents that I submit for approval so that they might easily find errors and leave the important intent areas alone.
