Darn! I didn't see this till now, Frank. Glad to see you are still following the articles on a daily basis.
Tell me, have you or any of your clan had the chance to reach "The Skeptical Juror?" or are you too damn scared to acknowledge all of the inconsistencies and wrong doings in the trial?
And for the record I am fairly intelligent which leads me to articulate statements very well; but I have seen how you have bashed his supporters in the past and I fear that getting into long drawn out keyboard commando wars with you would only lead to you spew more filth.
Went there with my wife on their first Groupon. (yes, we tipped - and as usual, on the pre-discounted total) Pretty good food - just not good enough to justify what tbey charge. Never went back.
From the sound of things, I'd be leery of buying the current Groupon unless I planned to use it right away. Sounds like the former Bonner Springs car dealer who sold a bunch of $300 "lifetime oil change" deals and then went out of business, fucking everyone who bought one from him. Sold one to my former employer 30 days before closing - tough to believe it wasn't intentional.
It is a burger joint. Who cares about burgers?
and Where is this Idiot Moron Owner from Originally ???
Sounds like he's Typical East Coast mentality !
Well as the County Commisionner said in the Movie, Well your not at home, but thats where were gonna send ya back to, if it hair lips the pope !

"Great article. let's wait on this project until downtown does not smell like a backed-up toilet." - thats no joke, how many of you have driven down I-435 at Front Street , ever smelled that rotten Egg Sewer Smell,, its so badd it'll Gag you,,, its from the Citys Sewer treatment plant , why don't they FIX that, Imagine what 100 Million dollars would do to that Sewer treatment facility to get rid of that awful Sewer smell,,, but,, they need that 100 Million dollar street car that'll run a whopping 2 miles instead ! Go Figure !
It seems like these types are always looking for the next big thing, instead of focusing on running a successful restaurant. Greedy, stupid, big ego or a combination of the three?
@Crazy Clown , A couple years ago i had a group of friends over from France, who i took down to tour the Jazz District, Museum, etc. After the tour was over, they looked at me and said , "how come there are no black people here?". LOL!!
angryhips, almost an exact copy of what went on with the closing of the b:2 restaurant in Lees Summit. And Douchebag Ernesto could not care less about the employees or the vendors he screwed. I hate the word HATE but, I Honestly HATE this piece of human garbage.....Rot in hell ERNESTO...
Ernesto saying that all employees have been paid is a bunch of bs. Atleast 3 of my former employees at Blanc in Omaha never received checks for the last 2 weeks of work. The check I received bounced. It took them over 2 months of of phone calls multiple times a week to different locations and managers and dozens of unanswered calls, voicemails, and texts to Ernesto, I was very polite I will add, to receive a new check, that low and behold bounced AGAIN. They are not good people. They do NOT care about their employees AT ALL. They gave all of us 1 hour notice before they closed. The last two months we were open we were changing vendors almost on a weekly basis it seemed. The running joke at roll call was the laundry list of items that we were out of that day. We were literally out of stock with more items than in stock. The last month our managers were spending their own money to wash our linens at the laundry mat on their break because from what I was told, we couldn't pay the linen company.
It amazes me that the Pitch again buys stuff like The Skeptical Juror lock, stock, and barrel, just because it supports Davy Rothbart's good friend. It did NOT reveal anything new of significance, except for its author's ability to claim expertise in 10 subjects at which he is no more than a dilettante, and make a fool like Rothbart believe him. Allen claims exculpatory evidence, but doesn't even offer as much as reasonable doubt. But who cares about that? Allen has gotten the killer's friends and family (including Rothbart) to buy, promote, and help sell his book as a free workforce.
Fifteen years ago, a young woman was murdered in cold blood. A jury of twelve had no trouble finding Byron Case guilty of the murder, based upon the evidence: eyewitness testimony that he was unable to impeach, forensic evidence that confirmed the testimony, Case's own tacit admission to the murder, recorded on tape, a provable motive and opportunity, and his own weak "alibi".
I trust that Governor Nixon will himself be a bit skeptical of the misstatements, prevarications, speculations, and exaggerations contained in the killer's and his supporters' petitions, and will keep him right where he belongs.
who cares......overpriced food, too cool owners, too much hype and not enough substance.....sooner or later it becomes apparent the emporer has no clothes......may they can blame it all on Cordish and the P&L...isn't that the excuse of every other poorly run restaurant/bar in KC, MO?
You know what Portland and Seatlle have that Kansas City doesn't? A viable school system. If you're looking for cities to compare KC to, try Detriot.
" QUOTE" "Obviously this guy has no morals and only values money."
To the person up there sayig that crap - your full of poop & your mouth smells like it! man! So if you have such a big problem with it, why are you not trying to shut down the shops that sale paint or super glue and air duster??? why?! Did you know that it is illegal to go into walmart, buy paint, tell them you are going to consume it? They will deny you your sell. I don't see your poopy mouth stinking up every business in town for selling alcohol, tobacco, super glue, paint, air duster - because all of these are abused and have been for a LONG TIME! No one likes a hater - your just sounding jeleous because Micha is a mover, not a shaker.
Micha has goals just like everyone else on this earth. It's not his fault he found a LEGAL LEGIT way to help him reach those goals, at least in a financial aspect... That was very smart of him. It is never personal, it's business.
"Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people." by Eleanor Roosevelt.
Anyone who knows this group knows the article is full of many truths. Had a lot of promise but the trend grew stale and, more importantly, terrible management spoiled it. Article could've been written a couple of years ago.
To blancserver...Ernesto and Jennifer were portrayed in bad light because they deserve to be. There certainly was ill- intent on their part to the employees of b:2 in Lees Summit. I have also personally seen what Ernesto and Jennifer VALUE and I can assure everyone that it is their OWN ASSES, and of course Ernesto's stupid cowboy boots, YIPPIE KI YAY Ernesto....

It's interesting to me that there was minimal effort taken to interview current Blanc employees for this article. As one, there are definitely inaccuracies within this (I can think of at least four employees with exposed tattoos offhand), but that is neither here nor there.
Having worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, I've seen the story that you're portraying happen time and time again with different characters and locations. It's the name of the game. Botched plans, owed vendors, discounted food, severed ties, ruined friendships. No one is ever surprised.
What surprises me, though, is that you would take the time to portray the owners in such a bad light. They may not get everything right the first time, but they don't have any ill intent. They truly believe in buying local and supporting other small businesses, which is where relatively sizable portion of where the cost of your food comes from. I've ran some of the numbers, and they actually lose money on some menu items just so they can serve locally-purchased products.
Groupons and other forms of discounts and promotions are a common part of the restaurant industry. Regardless of what they did for employee morale, it's ultimately the business owner's decision to use them or not. Serving jobs are not hard to come by once you've had experience, so I'm sure that they could easily find a job elsewhere.
If customers don't like the food, service, or decor, that's fine. That's part of the beauty of America, free speech, and free market capitalism, right? You can use your voice to tell people what they do well and what they could do better, and then vote with your wallet. Having seen first hand how much Jenifer and Ernesto truly value and attempt to implement changes based on customer feedback, I doubt you'll be disappointed. What I don't think you should do is try to portray these people: providers of local jobs, parents of wonderful and polite children, involved community members, and supporters of local businesses, as tyrants. They're anything but. Ernesto and Jenifer are just trying to support their family by doing the best that they can with what they have. There's nothing wrong with that.
I wasn't crazy about paying more than $20 for a burger, fries, and beer back when it was just Blanc on Westport Road and I went there for the first time. My attitude on that sure hasn't swung in the other direction in the intervening years. And the way things went down in Lee's Summit at b:2 was disgraceful. Management wasn't too shy about showing their worst side.
The days of paying $20 for a burger, fries, and tip are over, no matter how nice or mean the guy serving it to you is. Blue cheese stuffed burgers and truffle fries are available at burger places far and wide now.
Re: “Is the Plaza's flagship burger business done well or, well, done?”
I loved working with Blanc, and they were all very helpful and gracious in helping us launch our business in KCMO. They had plenty or problems growing, and I learned a lot from watching them and being a vendor. All I can say is for myself, working with Brian and Dave and Josh (and Beth too!) was always a pleasure, as well as Jenifer and Ernesto. Things didnt go perfectly, and there is always room to grow. Anytime someone asks me about restaurant or retail food service I laugh and say "I saw firsthand behind the scenes at loads of KC restaurants and I cannot conceive of a scenario Id ever give it a try!" Thats a hard business to manage, and its even harder to last. A little grace is probably in order...
