FNST is a _GREAT_ place! I started my birthday pub crawl there this year and loved it!
Wow, what great awesome place that everyone should check out. And this isn't Frank. It's somebody else.
Finally, an option other than Subway in downtown KCK. Small little diner inside Brotherhood Bank Building serving breakfast and lunch. Lunch specials daily. Sandwiches hot off the grill with great crinkle cut fries. Terrific brownies. Sides with lunches include wide variety including fried cabbge, beans, corn, mac and cheese, okra, etc. Good salads. Friendly and reasonably priced.
Amazing fresh sushi!!! Every time we go we try something new and it is always delicious!
Good food, and generous portions, but not quite as good as back in the 80s when the restaurant was just a 6 table or so establishment.
Fast friendly service, but the food was not hot at all - just warm. I think somebody forgot to stuff the dished up meal back in the oven for a bit prior to serving - they used to serve steaming hot meals on plates that would burn your fingers! I hope some clown didn't sue them over that. However, they were very busy with the lunch rush. I'll give them another try some day soon.
We eat there several times a month and they serve huge portions.
Stopped by late on a Friday recently coz I'd heard they televise Sporting KC matches pretty religiously. the vibe was very cool with that "we're all regulars" feel and even though I was just visiting I felt very much welcome. The bonus was I found out that the kitchen closes at 11:00 on Fridays and Saturdays so I got a chance to actually try the burgers I'd heard so much about, and let me tell you they live up to the hype. If you're on the adventurous side I recommend you try the egg burger (medium of course) with truffle fries! The sunny-side-up egg makes the burger juicy and creamy and complements the fries, which give you the taste of the truffle while avoiding the greasiness.
Elsa's Ethiopian restaurant is almost as delightful as Elsa herself. I've been there three times now, and each time I have been treated warmly and stuffed to the hilt with delicious, flavorful traditional Ethiopian dishes. My particular favorites are the beef tips, the spiced chicken, the chicken with tomatoes and jalapenos and the red lentils. Oh, the red lentils ... no one does them better than Elsa.
Last night we were there with a group of 20 that included about 6 kiddos. The staff was attentive and courteous, everyone got more than enough to eat, and we all lingered long over the delicious mixed platters that Elsa put together for us. What a wonderful celebration of community dining and hospitality. We love Elsa and her restaurant!
Great service, drinks, and equally fantastic atmosphere. What more could you ask for? This place is first-class.

I had the same issue with this bouncer at this bar. I was roughed up pretty bad and treated with extreme force. I have an attorney lined up to take this case. Please "MAGNUM p I" if you see this comment, please get ahold of me so I can hear your story and hopefully use it in the case against The Union.
Nothing Gay about this gay bar. Negative unfriendly bartenders seem to be the rule there. Read reviews before visiting Kansas City, unfortunately the reviews on Yelp were way off. These people must be paid to give such glowing review of this place. Not only was there a lot of attitude on the part of the staff but the place is kind of a pieced together dump. Least friendly of the places that I visited in kansas city by far....
The only place in town to get a real a Italian deli sandwich !!! These guys barely speak english.
Love them! They'll cut you a deal and make sure you're rollin on tires that aren't going to kill you (unlike my car dealership that wants to rip me off or leave me hanging with a hole in my tire). I always come here with my tire replacement and repair needs and am not afraid to show up by myself. (Being a single young female, I can't say that for every car shop. No I don't need the crap you sell and I don't want to buy a bridge, thanks.) Fast, cheap, good quality, great service, and you'll usually get a laugh in the process. :)
The only thing we liked was the salsa. The chips and taco shells were store-bought, not fresh. I had a chicken hard-shell taco that came out cold (none of the cheese on it melted at all) and leaking water. The shell was just soggy on the bottom. The burrito was just above room temperature, and nothing special. Lack of flavor to everything except the salsa.
Being an old rocker (I was alive at the birth of rock 'n roll), I have seen and heard a lot of rock 'n roll. This cover band, Coldwater, is the best I've ever heard. Seen them 4 times and attending The Roxy on Cinque de Maio to see them again!
Re: “Frank's North Star Tavern”
i love this place so much for very simple reasons: the staff are happy, there's room to move around without feeling vast, the clientele is diverse, i can hear what people are saying and still hear music, there's a lot to do, and there's space to park and/or walk home if you live in the neighborhood. it feels good being there. and i love hearing the trains.
