2011 AIDS Bicycle Challenge training rides

When: Mondays, 6:15 p.m. Continues through Sept. 6 2011
Price: free

Kansas City's seventh annual AIDS Bicycle Challenge is less than two months away. On Sunday, September 11, fundraising riders follow an approximately 20-mile ribbon-shaped route through the city, with stops for food, free adult beverages and entertainment. To get riders in shape, the folks at Family Bicycles in Waldo (7410 Wornall, 816-268-1757) are hosting two training rides every Monday night until the challenge — a relaxed ride (an hourlong trek that goes as fast as the slowest rider) and a training ride (a fixed course of 12 to 13 miles at a faster pace, also done in about an hour). "Everyone is welcome," says Family Bicycles managing director Theresa Van Ackeren. "There is no pressure to sign up for the ABC, but you are missing out on the fun if you don't." The rides start at 6:15 p.m., and helmets are required. For details, see familybicycles-kc.com.
