Authentic with big flavones. Love the red pork- spicy+. Usually about 6 things on menu. True home cook'n by owners (Augustine) wife and mother. Über casual.
Tried the Friday catfish special a couple of weeks ago and my mom had the shrimp special. Both were great -- very light breading, good crunch, nice portions, served hot, at a reasonable price. Server was very nice and checked back several times. We'll definitely go back.
They have the best burritos in the city in my opinion. And the beans and rice served are delicious. In addition, the portions are generous which never hurts anything but the waistline. I've been a loyal customer since high school and will continue to be for as long as they're open. My only complaint would be the parking. :)
This place is horrible. I placed an order for beef burrito and they got it wrong and would not make the order right. Told me that I would have to repay for the order if I want it they way I originally ordered it. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE. THEY ARE RUNNING A RACKET. When have you ever heard of a restaurant messing up your order then wanting you to purchase again to make it right.
My Fiance and I were very excited to have our wedding reception here next March. Beautiful space, great view, excellent food and a 5-star wedding coordinator. We signed a contract with 2000 Grand on November 3, 2012, however the contract was signed not by our event coordinator, but by the owner. We knew nothing of this because we never saw the contract after the owner signed it...You could say we didn't mind because we were still in a pre-wedding bliss, full of fun planning for the best day of our lives. Needless to say, the bliss has worn off.
On November 12, 2012, we went in for a tasting to select the entree for the reception. Our great event coordinator, who we really liked and trusted, told us then and there that she was leaving and introduced us to her replacement. We were okay with it at the start, but after 5 days of no returned emails we knew this was a fail. We didn't trust the new coordinator to get the job done so we tried to pull out of the contract on November 21, 2012 by citing a clause that said something to the effect of "no changes are binding except in writing". But, to our dismay, the contract wasn't even signed by our coordinator, it was signed by the owner (someone the internet tells us is quite the bully). Remember the wedding bliss? Yeah we had no idea.
Another interesting point here is that, we asked them to take us off their calendar earlier this week so they can begin to re-lease the space, and sustain no damages by our situation. They refused and claimed they won't take us off until we pay our contract cancellation fee, which I will explain in the next paragraph. This is just silly business practice that can be simplified into plain-old bullying. They know that we are gone. They also know they won't make money if they don't re-lease the space. But they insist on hurting their own business to collect a measly $2,000 from a young engaged couple, us, who want out because they acted quite unprofessionally.
Long story short, lots of emails, a few interesting phone calls and some heartburn later, 2000 Grand delivered an ultimatum. Either we pay the 25% of the contract amount (which was a clause in the contract that we understand, but we claim the whole agreement is voided by their unprofessional actions) or they hand us over to the collection rats.
I would strongly advise any prospective event-hosting people out there that even though the space is good, the food is good and the folks seem nice, the current management here can be accurately described as crooks. I hope this post encourages you to make a wise decision of where you take your business.
Mixed reviews, just completed my first and maybe last visit to Torreon.
Nice ambiance, but a "booth" is really a table with half of its seats against the wall.
Server was very good. Chips were excellent and warm, the salsa was good.
I ordered a margarita, "Our fish bowl margarita (house blend) is good" Yuk! It tasted odd, if not weird. And, with an after burn on the tongue. I'll have a regular one, please.
A "fish bowl" of ice with a little liquid in it arrived. It tasted like a regular margarita. Ok.
I ordered the chicken fajita. My companion, two beef enchiladas, "no onions".
The enchiladas were described to me as "basic". When asked, "good, bad or indifferent"? She replied "indifferent".
The fajita tasted good, but was more or less, middle of the road as far as fajitas go. The chicken, although not completely "dry", was not moist either.
The big shock came when the check arrived. Food prices were reasonable, but they charged $18.00 for 2 margaritas! "You had top shelf". I never requested "top shelf", and there was absolutely nothing special about the two glasses loaded with ice and very little fluid, until some ice melted, that I received. They made no effort to reconsider.
So, as I told the hostess, food was ok, but I'll not be back for $9 margaritas.
Bogeys is one of the best places to eat in leawood! Laid back fun and delicious.
needs an update to insure that people KNOW its NO LONGER IN BUSINESS ..
Great food, cheapest drinks in town and best burgers in town. I know Mexican Restaurant and burgers sounds crazy but for five dollars you get a double quarter pounder and fries. Also they serve great breakfast for ridiculously low prices. Service is friendly but slow.
Great food laid back atmosphere. The oldest bar in Leawood. All the classic bar food but homemade.
Please tell me why their Sonora taco is $4.75 with SHREDDED beef (ONE taco, no sides) and why their Sonora taco is $6.25 with GROUND beef. Look, guys at Ponak's, beef is beef, ground or shredded. I've been charged $2.50 extra when asking to substitute ground for shredded (mistake I'm told - should have been $1.25), then $1.50 extra -- just to substitute ground beef instead of shredded! Why don't you just drop this extra charge??????? This is WAY too much for ONE taco -- NO SIDES!!! Their food is still fairly good, not always hot, but they need to re-think this. I won't go back. No taco is worth near $7.00. Oh, did I mention NO SIDES????!!!! There is a Mexican restaurant on every corner in Kansas City. I don't need to go to this one.
We were told that the state of Kansas would no longer allow the restaurant to sell pitchers of beer. What?
I have been coming here for 20'ish years w/ fam and friends alike. I never have high expectations for service however I always know the food will be delicious! Last but certainly not least, their cheese dip is priced like gold and worth every penny! The BEST ever.
They give you two kinds of salsa to graze on - both very good. I recommend the queso flamedo for an appetizer. This place is good.
I have been going here since I was a little kid. It doesn't claim to be authentic Mexican, so the above reviewers need to chill. The cheese sauce is delicious. It is NOT velveeta. I highly recommend the enchildada torte.
This food at this restaurant is nothing special. Not terrible, but nothing to go back for. The main reason I won't go back is because of the filth. It looks like it hasn't changed or been cleaned since the 70's. I do not recommend spending time or money here.
I got the Bogey burger w/fries and my friend got the Reuben both very good and we had such a nice server. The Restaurant was clean and almost packed which says a lot for mid-week Thursday. What a find Bogeys is!
The food was soooo bad that my dogs puked up the leftovers that i fed them. Now thats pretty bad dont you think?
