The only thing we liked was the salsa. The chips and taco shells were store-bought, not fresh. I had a chicken hard-shell taco that came out cold (none of the cheese on it melted at all) and leaking water. The shell was just soggy on the bottom. The burrito was just above room temperature, and nothing special. Lack of flavor to everything except the salsa.
Really enjoyed Maya's but now looks to be closed or turning into something else?
Standard Mexican fare, but better then most!
I stumbled upon this little spot by chance. I needed food quick before a movie, and they delivered. It was SO good! Authentic, and reasonable prices. I will be going back.
If you are looking for a great dinner bargain, and who isn't, go with the taco's on Wednesday night. $1 each. 3 is PLENTY unless your a huge, huge eater. And don't forget the happy-hour Margarita's. Served in a smaller glass for only $3. They are so powerful! One....and I'm done for the night!!
When they first opened this 54th ST. location on NE Barry Rd. near Liberty, it was one of only a few restaurants in that area. Now it's very built up with many choices. Many have come and several have gone in the past 10 years. The 54th St. seems to attract the shoppers from the near by strip malls and Wal-Mart. In the early years, this 54th ST. was at least OK, nothing special, but decent enough and closer to Kearney where we live than most other restaurants. But we stopped going there after a waiter, botched our large group order. Example: "Oh you wanted the salad before your meal?" Complaining only got us a gift certificate for $10. off the next visit. No thanks. On an earlier trip, our waiter asked us to give him his tip before we were done, because he was ending his shift. Amazing! To be fair, the Liberty area is service worker challenged. and good help is hard to find and harder to keep given the low wages and poor management in many of these corporate chain boxes. The food at 54th St. is similar to other family American fare style boxes like Appplebee's, etc. We usually opt for The Corner Cafe which is a few feet away from the 54th St. location.
This place by far is the worst i've been too in years. My steak was nuked, i asked for medium and i got a well done hockey puck, my bbq chicken breast was a flimsy little piece of flash frozen chicken like the tenderbird brand with cheap ole kraft bbq sauce on it, and the worst part it was cold when i finally got my order. The ranch dressing for salads is awful as well. The servers sound like they are reading from a card and always ask if you want dessert every time they come to the table in hopes they can sell you something else. The place is over priced for the amounts you get also. I'll never go back.
Great restaurant with great food, prices and staff. Would defenitly recommend to all.
never once a bad experience in 4 years love the staff food is great prices are great drinks are fantastic always leave with a smile i highly recomend this place it is a personal fav
If you are just dying to try the worst shit that Mexico produces and have no desire to taste an authentic recipe from Mexico... then by all means, try out this dump on 40 highway. It's not even near the Westside where all of the Mexican community lives. It's an abomination to Mexican food and should be considered armed and dangerous with food poisoning. DO NOT ever go near a shit hole slum like this place unless you have a death wish.
I really enjoy the atmosphere, food and wait staff at Tortilla Flats. Yes it is not authentic food but worth the trip.
Our favorite Tex-Mex food. At least in our estimation they don't try for 'authentic' Mexican, but the serve a VERY tasty variety along with excellent drinks. We've been going for several years. Darned shame they lost the Riverside location (close to us); but they're worth the trip.
This is the best Mexican food we have ever had and the compliment is the Margaritas - top shelf are incredible.
Well they can't get a real reviewer to cover them so I thought I had better share one of the best kept secrets in the Northland. Tortilla Flats is great. They have the best deep fried tacos and simply the best Fish Taco plate I have ever had. They have expanded their menu and have great mexican pizzas. My vegetarian friend loves the veggie quesadilla too. My husband eats the Hectorito EVERY week. It's seasoned grilled chicken & steak with pico de gallo & beans wrapped in a tortilla. Truthfully, I have never had anything I didn't like here. We love it!!
The bouncers are total d-bags and the scene is nothing special, basically exactly what you would expect. Skip this spot.
Owners are worthless pieces of shit who screw every employee that has ever worked there. Management also fucks every new girl that works there. Yes, every SINGLE manager. I hope some of your wives read this. The owner Shane is a raging tool who runs one of the shadiest bars ever. Hey, at least he gets laid regularly. Also, some girls claim that he has given them herpes. Think about working here ladies. Also, notice on craigslist that they are ALWAYS hiring. That should not be a good sign. Turnover is the sign that maybe it's not the employees ALL the time? It is the management to claim at this dump. Also, Shane's dad Mort is a total thief as well. Fuck you cashew.
This is an excellent restaurant! We have ALWAYS received great service, incredible food and decent prices. The waiter is friendly and willing to discuss items on the menu and recommends different dishes each time you visit. Great place to eat; authentic Mexican cuisine.!
Hands down best Spanish food in the city!!!! EAT HERE ONCE AND YOU WILL BE BACK..
Fiesta Azteca has moved to:
705 SE Melody Ln (Highway 50 East and Highway 291 North)
Lees Summit, MO 64063
On the east side of 291 North in the old Pizza Shoppe space next to LaMar's Donuts.
Much nicer place, bigger kitchen and the food is still wonderful.
Re: “Ponak's”
Good food, and generous portions, but not quite as good as back in the 80s when the restaurant was just a 6 table or so establishment.
Fast friendly service, but the food was not hot at all - just warm. I think somebody forgot to stuff the dished up meal back in the oven for a bit prior to serving - they used to serve steaming hot meals on plates that would burn your fingers! I hope some clown didn't sue them over that. However, they were very busy with the lunch rush. I'll give them another try some day soon.
