Re: “Tomfooleries

To Tomfooleries Restaurant & Bar, I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME AT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT & WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW FROM DOING SO AS WELL!!! I have never received such terrible customer service from a restaurant before, especially when the food & drinks are subpar at best!!! Your management staff needs to have extensive training on how to speak with & treat customers, they turned an evening of good times and celebration into a very negative experience. Unless you retrain your night time management staff or replace them I think it will negatively impact your companies bottom line in the future!!!!

Re: “Bogey's Bar and Grill

Tried the Friday catfish special a couple of weeks ago and my mom had the shrimp special. Both were great -- very light breading, good crunch, nice portions, served hot, at a reasonable price. Server was very nice and checked back several times. We'll definitely go back.

Re: “Old Shawnee Pizza

Our favorite pizza on the KS side. They put SO MUCH topping on a single topping pizza, that it's our go-to. No reason to shell out more cash for a specialty. 2 medium single toppings for $18 with online coupon. Also, some hard to get toppings like meatball. Finally, they've put a bar downstairs; it feels like someone's living room, but it's really intimate for live shows.

Re: “Blue Grotto

Ate there last night (first time; Godfather table, with friends). I was not impressed with taste, esp. at the price.

Service was excellent except for server's representation of pizza size (she made it seem much smaller, and I didn't want all that food). I got the Four Seasons and found it to be soggy in the middle (outer crust was great) and bland. My friends liked their selections well enough.

My husband loved the asparagus appetizer.

He got the pork chop, and it was well plated and had nice apple puree/garlic garnish, but it was not uniformly tender (and also, alone, was bland).

My Caesar salad was o.k. I have had anchovies before, and the way they ended up tasting as part of Blue Grotto's vinegarette dressing was not tasty to me / tasted very differently.

Saw people I know, though, from around town, so it's a popular place. It was packed, and everyone else was happy. I have leftovers in the fridge, but I'm afraid of them : )

Went to Foo's for dessert (not me, them!), so can't comment on the sweets.

Re: “Blue Grotto

First off, it must be noted that both the previous review as well as the restaurant description are a bit dated. Not only is James Landis the current head chef (who, I've discovered, has been a part of the Green Dirt Farms dinners for the last 2 years and executed delicious perfection to a sold out table on both occasions), but his keen eye in comparison to the previous chef would not tolerate inconsistencies in food service or presentation. Blue Grotto is hands down my favorite pizza place in Kansas City and the exhibition kitchen showcases the care they put into all of their food along with the absence of frozen or pre-packaged ingredients. After chatting with the bartender, I was informed everything is made and assembled in house including ingredients for their signature cocktails (try the Spring Basil martini for a slightly sweet herbal refreshment). I brought a group of friends here for a special dinner a while back and we requested to go off-menu for our meal. Sometimes I don't always make the most thoughtful decisions but let me just say that was the best menu choice I've made as we enjoyed a 9-course menu with 5 short courses followed by their artisan pizzas, a lemon sorbet palate cleanser, an autumn-inspired poached pear dessert, and house-made truffles to top it all off. Because of our request, we had the privilege of sitting at what they call the "Godfather Table," which provides a bird's eye view of the whole restaurant. Here's the bottom line: the ambiance of this cozy neighborhood pizza and wine bar, with its wooden patio and cushioned benches huddled around stone fire pits, adds a soul-enriching vibe in addition to sating one's palate for fresh handmade pizza and delectable antipastas, small plates, and of course dessert. Grab a beautiful glass of deep red wine and enjoy the upcoming patio weather.

Re: “Blue Moose

Place to drink and watch the " Glory days " former East/ Jayhawk wanna - be' binge. Food unpredictable, surly wait staff more concerned with clearing out the tab and getting on. Could ah, would ah - with the right staff. Dark, silly but a place to go when desperate for an overpriced beer.

Re: “Joe's Pizza Buy the Slice

This pizza is phenomenal! Drizziling honey over top just adds to the magnificence that is created in this tiny little piece of heaven in the back of Kelly's.

Re: “Villa Capri

I wanted to like this place. I had read reviews to try the ravioli and the pizza - that this place was a throw back from the 60's and had really good food. The older lady with the glasses was our waitress. There was another heavy set waitress that was sitting down by the register the whole time eating. She didn't get up from eating the whole time we were there. We arrived at 4ish on a Friday evening to an almost empty dining room. Our waitress did not smile the entire time she waited on us except to give us our check. We had to ask for refills for our drinks and bread. She "threw" our food at us and gave us bread - but no butter. And didn't come back to ask if we needed anything. She was more preoccupied with the gentleman guest that she was sitting with talking about her son that doesn't smile. I thought, if I had a mom like you I wouldn't smile either! Raviolis were mediocre and I had Spaghetti with mushrooms and a house salad. The dressing was great on the salad. The spaghetti with mushrooms was ok. I wouldn't order it again. But I'm not coming back because of the service. A 30.00 meal and you get treated like you are wasting their time. My first and last time there for sure!

Re: “Jerry's Bait Shop

Just a bar. We went there for something different but it was nothing special. Started out with soup and it was really good . The motel advertisment said voted #1 pizza in KC. So we ordered the all meat large. BIG MISTAKE! Wow we each couldn't even finish 1 piece. It came to the table smelling like garlic. Which can be ok but after taking a bite the taste had way to much pepper and it also was only half cooked. We paid the bill but shouldnt have and left. Went to steak and shake instead. Wasted evening.

Re: “Old Shawnee Pizza

Best pizza around. The the 1 star reviewer. Did you not look at the menu? Pricing is right there. Nobody to blame but yourself. Sure, its a few extra bucks compared to a lot of the shitty places around, but i'm happy to pay for the quality.

Re: “d'Bronx

They still have the best pizza and sandwiches, but the redecorating is BORING. It used to be my favorite restaurant because it had charisma and was out of the ordinary.
I can understand them needing to clean it up a bit, but boring decor in Midtown? NOT smart.

Re: “Aftershock Bar & Grill

As a rough-neck roadhouse, the bar is what it is, but to be credible as a live-music venue, they need to fix the sound system. Every time we've been there, the sound system sucks. There is a nearly constant, loud buzz (imagine florescent light hooked up to an amp), annoying no matter what your musical preference. Sound guy couldn't get vocals to come through to save his soul from Donny Osmond.
