Re: “Tomfooleries

To Tomfooleries Restaurant & Bar, I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME AT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT & WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW FROM DOING SO AS WELL!!! I have never received such terrible customer service from a restaurant before, especially when the food & drinks are subpar at best!!! Your management staff needs to have extensive training on how to speak with & treat customers, they turned an evening of good times and celebration into a very negative experience. Unless you retrain your night time management staff or replace them I think it will negatively impact your companies bottom line in the future!!!!

Re: “The Cashew

My Fiance and I were very excited to have our wedding reception here next March. Beautiful space, great view, excellent food and a 5-star wedding coordinator. We signed a contract with 2000 Grand on November 3, 2012, however the contract was signed not by our event coordinator, but by the owner. We knew nothing of this because we never saw the contract after the owner signed it...You could say we didn't mind because we were still in a pre-wedding bliss, full of fun planning for the best day of our lives. Needless to say, the bliss has worn off.

On November 12, 2012, we went in for a tasting to select the entree for the reception. Our great event coordinator, who we really liked and trusted, told us then and there that she was leaving and introduced us to her replacement. We were okay with it at the start, but after 5 days of no returned emails we knew this was a fail. We didn't trust the new coordinator to get the job done so we tried to pull out of the contract on November 21, 2012 by citing a clause that said something to the effect of "no changes are binding except in writing". But, to our dismay, the contract wasn't even signed by our coordinator, it was signed by the owner (someone the internet tells us is quite the bully). Remember the wedding bliss? Yeah we had no idea.

Another interesting point here is that, we asked them to take us off their calendar earlier this week so they can begin to re-lease the space, and sustain no damages by our situation. They refused and claimed they won't take us off until we pay our contract cancellation fee, which I will explain in the next paragraph. This is just silly business practice that can be simplified into plain-old bullying. They know that we are gone. They also know they won't make money if they don't re-lease the space. But they insist on hurting their own business to collect a measly $2,000 from a young engaged couple, us, who want out because they acted quite unprofessionally.

Long story short, lots of emails, a few interesting phone calls and some heartburn later, 2000 Grand delivered an ultimatum. Either we pay the 25% of the contract amount (which was a clause in the contract that we understand, but we claim the whole agreement is voided by their unprofessional actions) or they hand us over to the collection rats.

I would strongly advise any prospective event-hosting people out there that even though the space is good, the food is good and the folks seem nice, the current management here can be accurately described as crooks. I hope this post encourages you to make a wise decision of where you take your business.

Re: “Jerry's Bait Shop -- CLOSED

Just a bar. We went there for something different but it was nothing special. Started out with soup and it was really good . The motel advertisment said voted #1 pizza in KC. So we ordered the all meat large. BIG MISTAKE! Wow we each couldn't even finish 1 piece. It came to the table smelling like garlic. Which can be ok but after taking a bite the taste had way to much pepper and it also was only half cooked. We paid the bill but shouldnt have and left. Went to steak and shake instead. Wasted evening.

Re: “DiCarlo's Mustard Seed Mexican-Americana Restaurant & Bar

If you are just dying to try the worst shit that Mexico produces and have no desire to taste an authentic recipe from Mexico... then by all means, try out this dump on 40 highway. It's not even near the Westside where all of the Mexican community lives. It's an abomination to Mexican food and should be considered armed and dangerous with food poisoning. DO NOT ever go near a shit hole slum like this place unless you have a death wish.

Re: “The Cashew

Owners are worthless pieces of shit who screw every employee that has ever worked there. Management also fucks every new girl that works there. Yes, every SINGLE manager. I hope some of your wives read this. The owner Shane is a raging tool who runs one of the shadiest bars ever. Hey, at least he gets laid regularly. Also, some girls claim that he has given them herpes. Think about working here ladies. Also, notice on craigslist that they are ALWAYS hiring. That should not be a good sign. Turnover is the sign that maybe it's not the employees ALL the time? It is the management to claim at this dump. Also, Shane's dad Mort is a total thief as well. Fuck you cashew.

Re: “The Cashew

Unfortuantly we has a similar experieince days before! To those interested in having an event or a wedding reception at 2000 Grand (The Cashew) please think twice! My Husband and I loved the Cashew. We loved the space, the view, the food was awesome, and they were flexible dealing with us all the way up to the wedding. It seemed to be the perfect spot to have an all inclusive downtown reception with an urban feel that had competing prices to other similar spaces. The problems we had occurred more after the wedding and with management. During the event it was HOT! They say the air conditioner was working which if this was true it was completely inadequate. With all the people in the space and all the windows it was burning up! All my guest on one side of the room were sweating and several of our older family members ended up having to leave early due to the heat. They did try to correct the situation by putting out large industrial fans that helped the heat but completely took away from the décor I had been working on for months prior. The second issue we dealt with was the freight elevator, which was the only access to the space except for three flights of stairs. At some point during the night the freight elevator broke which we were assured would work to help w people with disabilities which included my father, who paid for the event! Instead of trying to compensate for the elevator being broken they chose to ignore it and we were to figure out an exit strategy on our own. Not only were family members that needed assistance not able to leave the reception safely all the decorations we had brought for the reception also had to be carried down the stairs. They didn’t help with this until they were inconvenienced because people were going through the bar area with supplies. Management failed to provide alternative plans or help with either situation. These things could have been smoothed over easily because in the end we had a good time, but once mentioned to management a week after we were met with defense. The event coordinator was very apologetic and recognized the wrongs that occurred, but according to her, the owner and manager saw it very differently! Instead of offering some kind of concessions they put it all back on us and made some extreme and untrue accusations! This place is by no means cheap and we expected it to be perfect and when it wasn’t there was no real apology made. Only after meeting with them and much deliberation did they begrudgingly offer a gift card to the place. At this point it was too late; if they had offered this immediately we would have felt differently. The tactics they used to defend not offering any compensation were completely unprofessional and insulting. Please be aware of their poor customer service and lack of attention to customer satisfaction (more so with the owner and management) before booking this space!

Re: “Moxie Bar & Grill

This Bar and grill Is amazing. The food was delicious and available till 2am. adn the drink prices were incredible. $2 for a well or pint draw. $3 Jagerbomb. for $20 I can have a good time all night. I had heard that they had a rough crowd, but the staff said they got rid of the bad element, by changing the music they play and enforcing a new dress code. It was busy on the Friday I went, but there were lots of bouncers and everyone seemed to be just having a good time. I can't wait to go back to Moxie.

Re: “The Brooksider

There is a group of us ladies that went to Rockhurst years a go that have mostly all just recently moved back to the area. Our hangout was Mikes on Troost and then Hoopers, until we found the downstairs at the Brooksider. The bartender was Nathan, or Nate Dogg. He made the place, he knew everyone's name was always happy to see you and was a master at creating a party atmosphere. He left for awhile for another bar and the place tanked hard. He came back and the party was back and he even turned the basement into a dance club that felt like a keg party. We miss him and would like to know if anyone knows if he is bartending around town or if the Brooksider could bring him back even if it is just for a reunion weekend.

Re: “Dos de Oros

I have tried a lot of Mexican restaurants and this one is without a doubt the best! The owener is the cook and his wife serves. The food is authentic and a great value. Everything on the menu is so good it is hard to choose but I think my personal favorite is the steak alambres followed closely by the chicken and spinach enchalidas. They serve real beans instead of the paste you get at most Mexican places. Go for the fried cheesecake if nothing else, you'll be glad you did. Great food, great prices and friendly people, what more could you ask for!

Re: “Coach's Bar and Grill

It doesn't seem that anyone who cares, looks athe the food before it's served to the customers. Mistakes on every plate that was served. The list is too long to list all. They make their own potato chips, they were served un-seasoned and either over cooked or almost raw. Garlic toast served with ceasar salad, room temp, untoasted, bread w/ garlic butter on it. I could go on. I wouldn't go again there for food. Everyone sitting at the bar seemed to be having a good time.

Re: “Jaywalkers Sports Bar and Grill

Food is good but not worth enduring the terible service. Went there for lunch on a Friday-it took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get out of there. The waitress never brought us utencils-good thing we ordered sandwiches and fries. I got up and got us napkins for my goup myself. The waitress kept having customers ask her to take their order (probably becasue she takes forever to come back) so she took them out of turn which then meant we did not even get our order taken until we had sat there 25 minutes. Don't ever say you need a minute-the waitress won't be back for a long while-she will likely be hanging up at the bar talking to her friends. Finally, a firend onf mine waived down the only other waitress who took our order. The cook delivered our food finally. One of my firends had a question on her bill (which was not correct) and the waitress seemed put out and stated to our group "I know what I am doing". She left and went to the back of the retaurant and started throwing things. I tried to catch her because I wanted to get the managers name and number. Got it from the other waitress. Turns out the number is just the main number to the restaurant and I have left the manager 2 messages with no return call and I have gone to their website and asked for the manager or owner to call me back. Two weeks later nothing. This was not the first time like this either. My group likes the food but why go to Jaywalkers becasue the service will make you mad and it is not worth the bother. Go the other direction to the Bell Street restaurants.

Re: “The Cashew

***WARNING!!!! ***TAKE YOUR PRIVATE PARTIES ELSEWHERE! PATHETIC VENUE! Perhaps if you're simply drunk & have never partied in better than a barn you might love this hole. WHEN IN REALITY... There is NO Airconditioning in the upper floor ballrooms. They say & sell that there is, but it does not function, NEVER HAS! It was 98 degrees on June 27th when they screwed hundreds of clients over with the lies & BS! There was a crew of HVAC techs kicked out about 2 hours before guests arrived so they were not caught afro-engineering some laughing stock of a AC system that very afternoon. THIS VENUE HAS BEEN OPEN FOR MONTHS IF NOT YEARS DOING THIS TO EVENT AFTER EVENT OVER & OVER!!!! THE LIES MUST STOP!!!! The Video system FAILED when the clients group was to present a crucial heartfelt video & the venue had nothing but more pathetic excuses. They blew all their money on Garage doors instead! lol The management staff is very very rude, over worked, understaffed, incompetent and just plain pathetic. I wouldn't vomit on their sidewalk the next time I drove by drunk in a cab even if I was a loyal jayhawk fan! ***WARNING!!!! ***TAKE YOUR PRIVATE PARTIES ELSEWHERE! OBVIOUSLY THIS VENUE CANNOT SUPPORT PRIVATE EVENTS! SHOULD YOU TAKE THE CHANCE????????? Furthermore, this venue is NOT handicapped accessable. If I was in a wheelchair I would NOT go upstairs EVER under any circumstances, you'll just get trapped in the building owners private garage & burn up with his mercedes collectables. It's like Fort Knox getting in & out of that hole. NOT VENDOR FRIENDLY BY ANY STRETCH of the imagination! GOOD LUCK if you take the risk!

Re: “Dos de Oros

Great Mexican food and very reasonable prices. We eat there almost every Friday evening and never tire of the food. Quacamole is excellent. I love the spinach enchiladas and we've never been disappointed with the shrimp specials. The employees are very welcoming and attentive. Food choices are excellent. I even order their tamales and whole beans when I'm having a dinner party (I do make my own tacos and quacamole even though I am not Mexican.) Highly recommend!

Re: “Harry's Country Club

I visited your establishment for the first time today for lunch with my daughter, friends and granddaughters. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a restaurant. To begin with, our server took our drink orders and returned about 10 minutes later with them, but she forgot one. She told us she would be right back with it, but never returned with it. About 10 or so minutes later she came back to get our order. I understand that it was busy, but when we sat down only a handful of tables were seated. After our server took our food order, she proceeded to take orders at 4 other tables, which having run a restaurant before, I understood. That way there was one trip to the kitchen to deliver the orders. But, all 4 tables received their food long before we did. One table had even left by the time we received our food. About 20 minutes after she took our order she stopped by to make sure that I had ordered a sandwich instead of a wrap. It is my belief that she did not give our order to the kitchen until after that. That is the only explanation I can come up with for the huge delay. When asked how much longer it would be, we were told it would be right out. The 7 orders dribbled out one or two at a time. My 6 year old granddaughter was the last to get hers, about 10 minutes after everyone else. It was a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. How long does it take to make that?? When the manager (I am assuming, she never identified herself as that), came over to see how everything was we told her that the food was fine, but the delay was unacceptable (or words to that effect). She explained that the kitchen was backed up because they were busy and said “look at all these people.” When we all tried to explain that we had been there since 11:35 and it was now 12:30, she said well, when some people order things that take a long time it takes a long time to get your food. How long does it take to make grilled cheese, fries, a wrap, a sandwich, the brown thing, macaroni and cheese and a hamburger???? I was so taken aback by being told to go run the kitchen, I couldn’t respond. This manager is the rudest thing I have ever run into in the service industry. I didn’t expect a free meal, but I would have certainly appreciated a little sympathy and possibly free drinks for the extremely long wait. Instead, I was rudely told to go run the kitchen and that she had apologized and didn’t know what else we expected from her. Two of us had to get back to work. We both work downtown. I had left my office at 11:25 and did not get back to that office until after 1:00. I have an hour for lunch, which is usually more than enough time to go to a restaurant, eat and still have time to get back by the time the hour is up. None of us will ever be back. I will spread the word about how rude the management is there and how slow the service and cooks seem to be. Also, if you choose to eat there, don’t you dare complain about anything…they tell you to go run the kitchen. Sue Gates

Re: “Llywelyn's Pub

We ordered couple pitchers of beer, and were billed $30, put $40 in cash in the folder, got change back and than in 3 minutes a girl from behind the bar jumps out and grabs the change (~$10 or over 30% which we did not intend to leave - too much of a tip) and mumbling something about them needing the little folders for checks runs away with the $10. While not much of a loss - the impression it left on us was such that we never visit this pub again. It stinks. Otherwise - a regular cheap pub.
