Reheated leftovers with a side of credit card fraud
In the late afternoon, their entire menu (what little of it they actually have on offer) is apparently leftovers from the lunch rush reheated out of the fridge. And if you decide that you don't find this prospect particularly appealing, you see on your bank statement that you were charged over $40 for a couple soft drinks ordered before you discovered the "quality" of the food and decided to pay up and leave. Stay away. Stay far, far away.
If you are being treated like a second-class citizen, feel uncomfortable during the meal you paid for, and find yourself dealing with unpleasant management, then you must have found yourself in Saigon 39. The owner seems to have a giant problem with humankind in general, and it makes for a very inhospitable atmosphere. Wish I could say the food somehow made up for all that, but no. Vietnam Cafe is equally as good, if not better- and hey- they don't treat you like scum! Guess I know where my next Vietnam-fix will be.
Worse customer service ever. Went there to eat and had terrible customer service. Only brought out 2 glasses of water for 4 of us. Never ask us if we wanted additional glasses for our 2 kids. They ended up drinking out of ours. After bringing us our food she never ask us if we wanted anything else. She brought us our check in the middle of us eating. She started clearing our table when we weren't finish eating. Feel like she wanted us out. We left her 15%(even though the service is bad) tip base on the before tax amount. My wife took one of the kids to the restroom, the waitress came to me and said "you should tip at least 15%. You so cheap." I should ask for the ticket back and wrote zero, but I was shock that she would said something "BS" like this even though she received 15%. I told my wife what happen in the car. My wife called to complain to the manager but she answer the phone and said she was the manager. My wife asked for her name and she said "Jenny". She is a middle aged lady who speak very heavy accent. Beware of her if you go there.
My Fiance and I were very excited to have our wedding reception here next March. Beautiful space, great view, excellent food and a 5-star wedding coordinator. We signed a contract with 2000 Grand on November 3, 2012, however the contract was signed not by our event coordinator, but by the owner. We knew nothing of this because we never saw the contract after the owner signed it...You could say we didn't mind because we were still in a pre-wedding bliss, full of fun planning for the best day of our lives. Needless to say, the bliss has worn off.
On November 12, 2012, we went in for a tasting to select the entree for the reception. Our great event coordinator, who we really liked and trusted, told us then and there that she was leaving and introduced us to her replacement. We were okay with it at the start, but after 5 days of no returned emails we knew this was a fail. We didn't trust the new coordinator to get the job done so we tried to pull out of the contract on November 21, 2012 by citing a clause that said something to the effect of "no changes are binding except in writing". But, to our dismay, the contract wasn't even signed by our coordinator, it was signed by the owner (someone the internet tells us is quite the bully). Remember the wedding bliss? Yeah we had no idea.
Another interesting point here is that, we asked them to take us off their calendar earlier this week so they can begin to re-lease the space, and sustain no damages by our situation. They refused and claimed they won't take us off until we pay our contract cancellation fee, which I will explain in the next paragraph. This is just silly business practice that can be simplified into plain-old bullying. They know that we are gone. They also know they won't make money if they don't re-lease the space. But they insist on hurting their own business to collect a measly $2,000 from a young engaged couple, us, who want out because they acted quite unprofessionally.
Long story short, lots of emails, a few interesting phone calls and some heartburn later, 2000 Grand delivered an ultimatum. Either we pay the 25% of the contract amount (which was a clause in the contract that we understand, but we claim the whole agreement is voided by their unprofessional actions) or they hand us over to the collection rats.
I would strongly advise any prospective event-hosting people out there that even though the space is good, the food is good and the folks seem nice, the current management here can be accurately described as crooks. I hope this post encourages you to make a wise decision of where you take your business.
The bands are great but the bar is extremely smokey with poor ventilation. Make it non smoking and would go there often.
Worst restaurant I've ever eaten at!!! Service was terrible, sangria didn't have any alcohol, food was bland and over priced. To top it off the restaurant had my car towed from a reserved spot WHILE I WAS EATING INSIDE!!
Management was completely inept at resolving their mistake. I tried to contact owner Casey Adams who has been completely unresponsive. I'm going after them through the BBB (Better Biz Bureau).
NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!
Awful...not bad...not REALLY bad.....AWFUL!! My wife and I arrived around 7 pm on a Monday night to find a completely empty restaurant ( we should have followed our instincts and fled ). The only human to be found was the host who looked irritated that we had interrupted his phone conversation. We asked for a booth and he took us to a booth that, on my side, had about a foot square hole in the seat patched with black duct tape (again, we should have followed our instincts and fled ).
After waiting and waiting for the host to get off the phone and take our order ( no waiters on duty) we ordered three appetizers, shrimp and sweet potato with lettuce wrap, crab Rangoon, Vietnamese spring rolls and hot tea…what could go wrong? When we finally got our order the shrimp and sweet potato sticks looked like small, overcooked fish sticks that had been sitting on a counter under a heat lamp. We had to look closely to find the four pieces of shrimp that had the same French fry shape and consistency of the totally tasteless sweet potato fries. Sadly I have just described the best parts of this appetizer. The lettuce used to wrap the shrimp and sweet potato sticks was warm and so limp you could literally wrap it around and around your finger without causing it to crack! The only positive about the lettuce was that there wasn’t much of it. When we were able to flag down the host who was between phone calls, we asked for fresh lettuce and were greeted by a quizzical look followed by “Really?”.
We finally did get fresh lettuce (there actually was some on the premises) but it could not hide the texture, taste or looks of the sweet potato / shrimp sticks. Moving on to the Crab Rangoon, my wife thought it was OK, I thought it looked and tasted like it might have been on the lunch buffet and saved for lucky dinner diners. The spring rolls were average (high praise for this evening) but, at least, the peanut sauce was rich, thick and tasty. The tea was excellent even if we were never asked if we needed more.
We finished quickly and left a goodly amount of food, but, getting out was no easy matter as we had to wait and wait and wait for our check while our” host / wait staff” finished his never ending phone conversation. We usually leave a 20% tip as we appreciate the job most restaurant employees do, even if the food is just average. Tonight, we left zero which was both a well-deserved tip and a generous score for the food, the ambiance and the service we received at Sung Son.
I would have put less than one star for the rating but the system would not allow it. I am a doctor at a local hospital and I work very late hours. In the past I have called Waffle House to phone in an order to pick up on the way home. After the THIRD call with no answer, I tried calling the "hot line" number for the restaurant.......Yet again......no answer. All I got was a recorded message. I am glad these people DO NOT work in my emergency room at the hospital because our patience's/customer are very important to us.
Please tell me why their Sonora taco is $4.75 with SHREDDED beef (ONE taco, no sides) and why their Sonora taco is $6.25 with GROUND beef. Look, guys at Ponak's, beef is beef, ground or shredded. I've been charged $2.50 extra when asking to substitute ground for shredded (mistake I'm told - should have been $1.25), then $1.50 extra -- just to substitute ground beef instead of shredded! Why don't you just drop this extra charge??????? This is WAY too much for ONE taco -- NO SIDES!!! Their food is still fairly good, not always hot, but they need to re-think this. I won't go back. No taco is worth near $7.00. Oh, did I mention NO SIDES????!!!! There is a Mexican restaurant on every corner in Kansas City. I don't need to go to this one.
Place to drink and watch the " Glory days " former East/ Jayhawk wanna - be' binge. Food unpredictable, surly wait staff more concerned with clearing out the tab and getting on. Could ah, would ah - with the right staff. Dark, silly but a place to go when desperate for an overpriced beer.
Below-Average, boring corporate food. Its servers act like they have memorized scripts, I overheard the manager talking about her fake boobs, and the bartender took almost ten minutes to get me a drink when nearly nobody else was there (she was talking to a waitress). Not coming back.
Astonished at the incredibly rude treatment of a table of customers last week. The woman who owns this place was actually shouting at them about bringing in a birthday treat. You can bring your own wine just don't bring a cupcake. Wow! Food is mediocre, service would have to rate an "F" We won't be back again.
I dined at Fo Thai with several friends. The waiter was inept from the beginning spilling wine over the entire table and one of my companions. No attempt was made to "right this situation... setting the tone for the evening. The food preparation left much to be desired (like cleaning the s.hellfish of sand and grit)...the advertised items in the dish were missing....the very expensive fish special was dry and cottony and inedible.
The manager made amends and wished us to return for a second try. Not on your life. Then an offer was made for a gift certificate. .....it has been three months. Never received. Never going back. Who wants to be fleeced again?
The one time I went there, I saw literally about 10 roaches. They were ducking in and out of the wall trim. Another customer and myself saw to dance out from under a table leg and duck back under. A lady that worked there was peeling tiger shrimp out in the restaurant on an open table right by me. While quickly paying my bill and leaving, I told the guy at the register about the roaches and he just gave me a blank look. First and last time going there.
I wanted to like this place. I had read reviews to try the ravioli and the pizza - that this place was a throw back from the 60's and had really good food. The older lady with the glasses was our waitress. There was another heavy set waitress that was sitting down by the register the whole time eating. She didn't get up from eating the whole time we were there. We arrived at 4ish on a Friday evening to an almost empty dining room. Our waitress did not smile the entire time she waited on us except to give us our check. We had to ask for refills for our drinks and bread. She "threw" our food at us and gave us bread - but no butter. And didn't come back to ask if we needed anything. She was more preoccupied with the gentleman guest that she was sitting with talking about her son that doesn't smile. I thought, if I had a mom like you I wouldn't smile either! Raviolis were mediocre and I had Spaghetti with mushrooms and a house salad. The dressing was great on the salad. The spaghetti with mushrooms was ok. I wouldn't order it again. But I'm not coming back because of the service. A 30.00 meal and you get treated like you are wasting their time. My first and last time there for sure!
Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of eating at the Wheat State Pizza in Olathe. We walked in at 5:00, ordered at 5:05 and received our pizza, which was for dine in, at 6:20. Thats right, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes for 1 large pizza. We were told when we ordered that our wait would be 10 to 15 minutes. What happened?? When we walked in to the restaurant at 5:00 pm we were the only ones in the entire restaurant. Around 5:30, others started to come in and order. While waiting, the man that I assume was the manger, offered others free drinks while they waited. We were never offered free drinks even though we waited an hour and 15 minutes. When the manager finally brought us our pizza he stated that someone placed our pizza in a to go box instead of bringing it out to us. Never did we recieve an apology for our food taking so long nor did we even get offered compensation for our horrible customer service. This place is a joke.
Just a bar. We went there for something different but it was nothing special. Started out with soup and it was really good . The motel advertisment said voted #1 pizza in KC. So we ordered the all meat large. BIG MISTAKE! Wow we each couldn't even finish 1 piece. It came to the table smelling like garlic. Which can be ok but after taking a bite the taste had way to much pepper and it also was only half cooked. We paid the bill but shouldnt have and left. Went to steak and shake instead. Wasted evening.
I have been going to the Falloon for years, but this is the first time I have been since Highwood Properties had some input on the renovation and menu changes took place. They have made changes to the interior and menu that were intended to make the classic sports bar and grill to appear more upscale. Some of the interior changes I don't mind but the menu changes were a hugh disapointment. Having a rueben sandwich without thousand island dressing or something similar??? The rueben comes with mustard, in my book I call that a pastromi sandwich with mustard, not a rueben! My bigest complaint, besides the complete sellout of the Falloon to what Highwood Properties excecutives want the Plaza resturants to be, is the fact that they can no longer cook an old fasion classic bacon cheese burger properly. I ordered my burger medium, it came out gray, no pink in sight, it inevietibly was very dry. The bacon was nice and thick, but hard as a rock and dry as card board, when I broke a piece off dust fell to he plate! The bun was nothing special, but sticking with the theme it was overly dry. Finally, the fries, were good, but mostly burnt up and hard. Its too bad, maybe the Falloon had no choice but to make these changes in order to stay on the Plaza, but the least they could do is hire a competent kitchen staff to maintain some level of decent food. Next time maybe I should just go to Blanc burgers or 810 Zone to get a decent burger, they didn't sell out thier menu to Highwoods, at least not yet!
This place by far is the worst i've been too in years. My steak was nuked, i asked for medium and i got a well done hockey puck, my bbq chicken breast was a flimsy little piece of flash frozen chicken like the tenderbird brand with cheap ole kraft bbq sauce on it, and the worst part it was cold when i finally got my order. The ranch dressing for salads is awful as well. The servers sound like they are reading from a card and always ask if you want dessert every time they come to the table in hopes they can sell you something else. The place is over priced for the amounts you get also. I'll never go back.
Re: “Thirsty Ernie's”
Tell me WHY we have the immature tall blonde, Lindsey chasing and screaming at her boyfriend throughout entire bar and out on patio?. Last 2 times Ive been there she is overly spoken on she doesnt know where the "f" he is. Yelling across the bar at the girls on her demands and letting them fully aware SHE IS IN CHARGE TONIGHT. Is she in charge? If thats the case, WOW! You guys need a little help in hiring. Her professionalism needs a crash course. So much back and forth between her and i think his name is Chuck. Its like cat and mouse chase with them two.
I was there last Thursday when I heard the short dark headed bar tender with glasses there let a group of maybe 8 people tell a guy at the door she wasnt able to serve because they were closing....understandably it was bad out and we were leaving. However, she told a handful of girls across the bar know they are not drinking enough to keep the bar open and paying her salary. I was sitting at the bar and overheard and saw this.. The girls were angry and came back in. Dont know what all was said but overheard some when they came back out. Felt bad for the 2 that were working with the bar tender girl as they seemed to wanna correct the concerns. Felt like the bar tender could of handled things better but didn't.
