When my husband said, Let's try J. Gilberts I knew it MUST be a steak house (his favorite... mine sometimes). I agreed a little half-heartedly. It's on a busy street and the exterior wasn't that terrific to me, so I didn't have high expectations. Boy was I surprised! From the time we opened the door till the time we departed I was absolutely thrilled! The atmosphere was fabulous, wonderful jazz playing, comfortable and intimate seating and the food was fabulous, (and I'm not a big meat eater)! Service was impeccable as well! It IS expensive, but we will definitely go back for special occasions. If you sign up with your email they send special, money off coupons pretty regularly.
I got the Bogey burger w/fries and my friend got the Reuben both very good and we had such a nice server. The Restaurant was clean and almost packed which says a lot for mid-week Thursday. What a find Bogeys is!
Best authentic Mexican food in town. Period. Staff is always super friendly and attentive and salsa bar is great. Huge food portions and small prices top it all off. The family and I were eating here the other evening and I decided to try the steakburger for the first time (I could never bring myself to order it because the other food is always so good). Well, I ordered the double and when it got to me my jaw dropped. Two half pound patties! It was huge, juicy and full of flavor! With fresh lettuce, onion and tomato, I needed no other condiments. Now not only is this my favorite spot for Mexican, but for burgers too! I guess I have to go twice as often now!
I do a weekly look-in on Charles' excellent restaurant reviews, and got to thinking about Plaza III. We were only in KC for a few years, but this became one of our all-time favorite restaurants of anywhere we have lived across the country. From a great scotch & soda in the bar while we wait for a table, to the relish tray with immense cold radishes, to the sublime steaks, it is the 'real deal'. Great for a romantic dinner, a client/attorney bash, or just a good meal. My only question is how do I get Charles, Truman, Bob, and his JoCo or Ward Parkway 'lady friends with Botox' to join us?
I read that the Power & Light District is the 'new' place for high-end dining in KC. Folks, the Plaza is a setting that cannot be reproduced by any developer or urban renewal politico in modern times. (Yes, I know that the Plaza was 'the' Nichols development of its' day). Keep firing up the lights on Thanksgiving and patronizing the merchants in your faux Spanish mission gem.

Re: “Bogey's Bar and Grill”
Great food laid back atmosphere. The oldest bar in Leawood. All the classic bar food but homemade.
