Re: “JR's Place

Pops has not only taught us to respect the stage and our crowd but to respect ourselves. He has taught us about the "Brotherhood" and has given us a family. Some of us have been called the outcast of our biological families and Buttwiser's Bash is our family. I consider all the cast my brothers and sisters. I know that we all perform from the heart and I know the crowd knows the difference. Like I have always said, "You may come in a stranger, but you will leave 'Family'". Pops has also taught us that not one of us is better than another entertainer. We are each different in our own way. We are on that stage for you and our hearts are wide open.

Re: “Cozy's Cafe

You receive a warm welcome when you come through the door, given by the owner, Albanian-born Kozy. The food here is fresh and tastes wonderful. I ordered a grilled sandwich of cheese (I wish I could remember what kind), basil, tomato, and a drizzle of honey ... Heaven! It was served with a salad of fresh mixed greens tossed with a very light vinagrette. It was perfect! The price was perfect as well! I returned with family a few weeks later. My sister had the cheese tortellini with ham & alfredo sauce for $9.99. Not only was it spectacular, it was an enormous portion. My niece had the special of the day, lasagna. I can't remember if it was $8 or $9.99. She ate every bite and ooh'd and aah'd the whole time! I chose another special of Tilapia and was also delighted with the light, flaky, results. The only downside to this wonderful restaurant is that it's just too bright at dinner. It's fine during the day to be sitting under bright light, but at dinner, a bit more subdued lighting would be nice. But it doesn't bother me enough to stay home. The food is too good to miss out on one of those terrific specials. I highly recommend it!

Re: “Café Cedar

Cafe Cedar has change so much since the old photograph provided by the pitch. The remolding and updated interior creates a fantastic atmosphere. The middle eastern food they have to offer is exquisite. It far outranks any in the city. The owner makes everything from scratch, no hummus mix or purchased pita. He constantly working on new recipes to add to the already extensive menu. I have been there on several occasions when he emerges from the kitchen with something for his "regulars" to try. The hummus, falafel and babaghanoush are simply fantastic, the pita made from scratch, and so much more. If you are a true middle eastern food lover, you have to try the muhummera. A little hard to find, next to the post office on highway 9 in Parkville, they reside a building that looks like a river boat. A unique twist is they also provide a delicious American menu. My kids have a cheeseburger, while I dine on Mediterranean fare. I highly reccomend it. http://www.cafecedar.com/Middle_Eastern_Menu.html

Re: “Ma Ma China

Ma Ma China is the best buffet by far that I have tried. The food is always FRESH, delicious and the service is on-point. They never let you go empty on your drink. I personally recommend the walnut shrimp or chicken. The food is awesome here. Pricing isn't too bad either, less than $20 for 2 people to get stuffed. They keep it clean too. The bathrooms out-class the rest of the restaurant (haha). You will not be disappointed!

Re: “Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant - CLOSED

We, being myself and my husband, went a few weeks ago...had a BLAST! We bought tickets to ACE to see the movie UP in 3D and while we waited to see the movie walked down a ways to the Pub. I don't know how most the week is but Sunday is a great time to go if you want a quite meal and it to be a hint of romantic. They have low lighting, large wood table and chairs, and great food. We spent about 40 bucks on our meal and drinks. It was like fine dinning at a affordable price. Most fine dinning cost you at least 75 bucks or more...this was worth the money. As far as I know the food is authentic and full of flavor. I didn't use the restroom but I did "sneak" into the Whiskey room and looked at the stored bottles that people have drank from. The floors and tables were kept up and clean. They have a long bar if that is where you wish to sit along with tale bar stools and tables sitting around. There was also a little stage for their live bands. We sat back a little to be a little more secluded plus we wanted a table and chair and an added bonus of being away from the other people. Our waitress was more then helpful and explained food on the menu. She was well dressed and polite. She didn't over bear us with her presence and kept up on drinks. Everything was top notched and we walked out with smiles on our faces and a great desire to return. I've highly recommended this Pub to a lot of friends and family.

Re: “The Drop

I have eaten at virtually every restaurant in the greater Kansas City area, and simply nothing compares to the food at the Drop. I have eaten more expensive food, but never more creative cuisine. Last night for example, I had the coffee crusted rib eye. To be honest, I thought that there would be no way that the coffee wouldn't overpower the taste of everything else on the plate....boy was I wrong. Chef Kelli Daniels constantly surprises me with her innovation, balance and quality of cuisine. I LOVE THE DROP!

I've only eaten here at lunch, but I've never had a bad meal. Every day (M-F) they have a special. Burger and fries, chicken fingers, hot wings, etc. 5 bucks. Give them a shot, they're right off of Johnson drive and Merriam Drive

Re: “Mama Tio's

I just moved to brookside and found this restaurant. The food was great and I left full. I liked that I was able to get my own chips and salsa. The margaritas were good, but strong. The atmosphere you can tell is a family run business. The building looked old, but the night I was there they were doing some upgrades to the bar. I recommend this place for a great place to eat great food at a great price. It isnt authentic mexican food so if that is what you want this isnt it, but if you want great americanized mexican food then this is the place. I am glad I found this place

Re: “Dos de Oros

Great Mexican food and very reasonable prices. We eat there almost every Friday evening and never tire of the food. Quacamole is excellent. I love the spinach enchiladas and we've never been disappointed with the shrimp specials. The employees are very welcoming and attentive. Food choices are excellent. I even order their tamales and whole beans when I'm having a dinner party (I do make my own tacos and quacamole even though I am not Mexican.) Highly recommend!

Re: “Teresa's Drive-In

Teresa Drive-In has tremendous food especially the juicy tender chicken strips that you have to chop down on. everything is fresh made right off of the grill or homemade. The main thing why i enjoy this amazing restaurant is that the outstanding fresh french fries are not like any other kinds there not all greasy and filled with fattening like MCdonalds. there employees are always right at your service to serve you. Overall you have to take my opinion you get great food for low value there's no better restaurant then Teresa drive-in

Re: “Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy

I first started eating Abuelo's in Dallas, TX. I fell in love. Its not the traditional Mexican food, which I am in love with. Its one of the few places in KCMO you can get a egg on the side. Great addition to your entree. I am so glad it is here in KC!!

Re: “R.A. Long's Sawmill

I have enjoyed several wonderful meals at RA long's Sawmill. The food is excellent, everything is made from scratch using fresh locally grown produce. Service is warm and friendly...I am recognized and greeted as a returning customer each time I visit. The bar is intimate and warm...and the restaurant has a comfortable family friendly feel. I love to patronize independent restaurants as oppossed to chains, and continue to enjoy my expierences here. I most recently went to Easter Brunch at the Sawmill, and will likely go there for Mother's Day Brunch too...Just can't get enough of a great place like the Sawmill!

Re: “Justus Drugstore

The Justus's have a long history with the city of Smithville, and my childhood is filled with memories of getting cold drinks on hot summer days from the soda fountain that was in the old drugstore. While the city was sad to see the institution go, with the return of Jonathan and Camille, the place has been reborn into something no one ever expected to thrive in a small town Smithville. In supporting exclusively local products including high grade ethically butchered grass fed beef from just down the road in Tremble, and a vast array of local organics they are able to capture the primary principle of French cuisine: start with fresh ingredients. Jonathan's French culinary education is evident in the subtle, yet complex flavors that seem to hit you, and then gently unfold in your mouth. The cocktails Camille cooks up are also a treat. The desserts are truly works of art with sugary projections jutting out from the plate. The menu is small, but that doesn't keep it from being a difficult decision, as there isn't a bad choice on it. The success of this restaurant can be chalked up to quality. It has been written up in countless magazines, receiving national attention for the innovative menu and business practices. In short, it's worth the trek to Smithville. You would be wise to set aside the entire evening, as dinner here is not a quick affair, and make reservations at least two weeks in advance. It's the best restaurant in the in city, hands down, and one of the best in the country. *Note: This review was written while living and dining in Paris, and craving a meal at Justus's.

Re: “Plaza III-The Steakhouse

I do a weekly look-in on Charles' excellent restaurant reviews, and got to thinking about Plaza III. We were only in KC for a few years, but this became one of our all-time favorite restaurants of anywhere we have lived across the country. From a great scotch & soda in the bar while we wait for a table, to the relish tray with immense cold radishes, to the sublime steaks, it is the 'real deal'. Great for a romantic dinner, a client/attorney bash, or just a good meal. My only question is how do I get Charles, Truman, Bob, and his JoCo or Ward Parkway 'lady friends with Botox' to join us? I read that the Power & Light District is the 'new' place for high-end dining in KC. Folks, the Plaza is a setting that cannot be reproduced by any developer or urban renewal politico in modern times. (Yes, I know that the Plaza was 'the' Nichols development of its' day). Keep firing up the lights on Thanksgiving and patronizing the merchants in your faux Spanish mission gem.

Re: “Katie's Pizza

I agree completely that Katie's has gone through peaks and valleys; however, after my recent visits, it is at its best and new owner obviously has what it takes! Just saw new flyer with DAILY stuff! Boyfriend looking forward to the Bikini Sand Volleyball exhibitions with the drink models! LOL Go figure. Try this place again... I'm glad I did!!!
