Re: “Papu's Cafe

We love this little place. The food is deelish and the charming little garden on the west side of the building is perfect for a family sit down dinner. (Bring your own high chair, or booster seat.)
We loved the Falafel appetizer and had the Gyro platter and Shawarma platter for dinner. Both were very good and come with Tabouleh salad, hummus that is light and exquisitely seasoned and extra pita ( which is very fresh and light as well). I favor Greek dolmas, so trying the Dolmas appetizer seemed a bit mushy and too much like pasta sauce to me, but overall the food & experience are worth repeating. We will be regulars here.

Re: “Jerry’s Cafe

If you ever ate at the old Woodsweather Cafe, you've had Jerry's food. Same portions, same selections and still tastes great. A can't miss selection.

Re: “Justus Drugstore

OK, this is one of my top three places to eat in KC. The main reason is that it is part of the slow food movement. When I really need to reconnect to my significant other, dinner here is a great leisurely meal with lots of adventure. If you are not willing to take the time to enjoy the experience, go to the Golden Corral buffet.
The food is excellent, the service has always been friendly and the wine list is spectacular. And we’ve picked up some interesting tips from the bartender as well. If you really want to appreciate and enjoy Justus, make a reservation, clear your evening calendar and relax. Its worth the trip.

Re: “Café des Amis

Cafe des Amis is one of my favorite places to eat in the metro. Run by a husband and wife team, they put great care and energy into their menu. They have just remodeled the bar area as well. Cozy, friendly, casual with wonderful food. Wine list is excellent. Would say this is one of my top three, with Farmhouse and Justus Drugstore.

Re: “Tastee Freez

4 stars for the locally made ice cream now available. It used to be offered at a bulk foods store up the street, but now that that store has closed, tastee freez is offering the delightful homemade ice cream. Can't vouch for the other food, but the homemade ice cream is worth the trip.

Re: “Fo Thai

I dined at Fo Thai with several friends. The waiter was inept from the beginning spilling wine over the entire table and one of my companions. No attempt was made to "right this situation... setting the tone for the evening. The food preparation left much to be desired (like cleaning the s.hellfish of sand and grit)...the advertised items in the dish were missing....the very expensive fish special was dry and cottony and inedible.
The manager made amends and wished us to return for a second try. Not on your life. Then an offer was made for a gift certificate. .....it has been three months. Never received. Never going back. Who wants to be fleeced again?

Re: “Hamburger Mary's

Comfort food with a flair. Local place for us, and we take guests there regularly. Never had a bad experience, and the wait staff are, well, fun! Sometimes a little loud, but a small price to pay for glorious gluttony.

Re: “Adrian's Cafe

Excellent made to order deli-type sandwiches. My only complaint is that they close WAY too early if you're wanting a quick sandwich for dinner.

Re: “Joe's Pizza Buy the Slice

This pizza is phenomenal! Drizziling honey over top just adds to the magnificence that is created in this tiny little piece of heaven in the back of Kelly's.

Re: “Café Cedar

We were looking for something unusual, and we found it. It was a great place. The food was delicious and the server was very friendly. I will happily go there again, and tell others about it.

Re: “Danny's Big Easy

My wife and I went to 18th and Vine this afternoon for some time "alone". We found a joint, well not really a joint, everything was light and airy, white tablecloths, and we were the most questionable characters in the house. Danny's Big Easy. It was blues jam Saturday and I mean blues. Slowsy-like blues, like I like it on a Saturday afternoon. The performers were top-notch and the Cajun fare was excellent. The staff and customers immediately let us know they were sincerly glad we came; not over-solicitous, just plain friendly. The prices were no more than we pay at our local bar and grill having no music, grumpy waitresses and patrons who want to be left alone. Missed the boudin that they had at the old Danny's though.

The "jam" was well organized and apparantly led by experienced performers, moving quickly from piece to piece. The musicians were definitely not amateurs, and actually "performed" rather sitting around tuning their instruments. A few drop-in jammers were given their turn to play and the crowd responded enthusiatically. It was much fun contemplating the musical history of Kansas City, the history of the district, and thinking we might be observing the beginnings of a new "golden era" of Kansas City music. Thanks to the Gosserand family for the fine restaurant and keeping up K.C.s musical reputation. -Boutain Quail

Re: “Mingle

Not the best valve and quality of steaks in my opinion. I have been there at least 10 times to eat dinner. If you like ribeye 's save your money. Nice clean place, bar tenders sometimes need to be flagged down. They have more competition these days and they need to step up there game without increasing prices.

Re: “Aloha Chopstix

The one time I went there, I saw literally about 10 roaches. They were ducking in and out of the wall trim. Another customer and myself saw to dance out from under a table leg and duck back under. A lady that worked there was peeling tiger shrimp out in the restaurant on an open table right by me. While quickly paying my bill and leaving, I told the guy at the register about the roaches and he just gave me a blank look. First and last time going there.
