My Fiance and I were very excited to have our wedding reception here next March. Beautiful space, great view, excellent food and a 5-star wedding coordinator. We signed a contract with 2000 Grand on November 3, 2012, however the contract was signed not by our event coordinator, but by the owner. We knew nothing of this because we never saw the contract after the owner signed it...You could say we didn't mind because we were still in a pre-wedding bliss, full of fun planning for the best day of our lives. Needless to say, the bliss has worn off.
On November 12, 2012, we went in for a tasting to select the entree for the reception. Our great event coordinator, who we really liked and trusted, told us then and there that she was leaving and introduced us to her replacement. We were okay with it at the start, but after 5 days of no returned emails we knew this was a fail. We didn't trust the new coordinator to get the job done so we tried to pull out of the contract on November 21, 2012 by citing a clause that said something to the effect of "no changes are binding except in writing". But, to our dismay, the contract wasn't even signed by our coordinator, it was signed by the owner (someone the internet tells us is quite the bully). Remember the wedding bliss? Yeah we had no idea.
Another interesting point here is that, we asked them to take us off their calendar earlier this week so they can begin to re-lease the space, and sustain no damages by our situation. They refused and claimed they won't take us off until we pay our contract cancellation fee, which I will explain in the next paragraph. This is just silly business practice that can be simplified into plain-old bullying. They know that we are gone. They also know they won't make money if they don't re-lease the space. But they insist on hurting their own business to collect a measly $2,000 from a young engaged couple, us, who want out because they acted quite unprofessionally.
Long story short, lots of emails, a few interesting phone calls and some heartburn later, 2000 Grand delivered an ultimatum. Either we pay the 25% of the contract amount (which was a clause in the contract that we understand, but we claim the whole agreement is voided by their unprofessional actions) or they hand us over to the collection rats.
I would strongly advise any prospective event-hosting people out there that even though the space is good, the food is good and the folks seem nice, the current management here can be accurately described as crooks. I hope this post encourages you to make a wise decision of where you take your business.
The bands are great but the bar is extremely smokey with poor ventilation. Make it non smoking and would go there often.
Worst restaurant I've ever eaten at!!! Service was terrible, sangria didn't have any alcohol, food was bland and over priced. To top it off the restaurant had my car towed from a reserved spot WHILE I WAS EATING INSIDE!!
Management was completely inept at resolving their mistake. I tried to contact owner Casey Adams who has been completely unresponsive. I'm going after them through the BBB (Better Biz Bureau).
NEVER EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!
The DJ was terrible and didn't play toward his crowd at all. There were only maybe 40 people there at any one point of time and no one would dance because of the horrid song selection.
Place to drink and watch the " Glory days " former East/ Jayhawk wanna - be' binge. Food unpredictable, surly wait staff more concerned with clearing out the tab and getting on. Could ah, would ah - with the right staff. Dark, silly but a place to go when desperate for an overpriced beer.
Nothing Gay about this gay bar. Negative unfriendly bartenders seem to be the rule there. Read reviews before visiting Kansas City, unfortunately the reviews on Yelp were way off. These people must be paid to give such glowing review of this place. Not only was there a lot of attitude on the part of the staff but the place is kind of a pieced together dump. Least friendly of the places that I visited in kansas city by far....
Had several drinks and complained about them. They were weak/watered down. Drank all night, no buzz, the service was slow at best, but they sure didn't forget to charge me for any of those weak drinks!
Just a bar. We went there for something different but it was nothing special. Started out with soup and it was really good . The motel advertisment said voted #1 pizza in KC. So we ordered the all meat large. BIG MISTAKE! Wow we each couldn't even finish 1 piece. It came to the table smelling like garlic. Which can be ok but after taking a bite the taste had way to much pepper and it also was only half cooked. We paid the bill but shouldnt have and left. Went to steak and shake instead. Wasted evening.
First the food was horrible, I order the Jerk Steak , very dry I left most of it on the plate. Then the service was horrible , we waited for everything too long the waiter kept apologizing for the horrible service. At the end of the meal their POS system went down several times. My wife had to leave so we would not be late picking up our child from practice. Then they had the nerve to charge me a automatic tip of 20%. And last but not least they charged me several times because their POS system was broken and when I called them about it , they made it my responsiblity said I will have to go to my bank to get this corrected. So please don't go there Don't waste your time or money.
I had a similar experience when the spiked haired guy who was sitting at the bar came up and told our group of guys not to talk to the waitress anymore. I'm sure he was the boy friend.
I was there last Friday to see my friend's band play. We were all having a great time, until the waitresses boy friend came up to us and told us not to talk to her etc. etc. The mood of our whole group changes in a very negative way.
It's not a good practice what so ever to have your waitresses' boy friend's present at the bar. I will never go here again.
Owners are worthless pieces of shit who screw every employee that has ever worked there. Management also fucks every new girl that works there. Yes, every SINGLE manager. I hope some of your wives read this. The owner Shane is a raging tool who runs one of the shadiest bars ever. Hey, at least he gets laid regularly. Also, some girls claim that he has given them herpes. Think about working here ladies. Also, notice on craigslist that they are ALWAYS hiring. That should not be a good sign. Turnover is the sign that maybe it's not the employees ALL the time? It is the management to claim at this dump. Also, Shane's dad Mort is a total thief as well. Fuck you cashew.
These people are crooks! I would STRONGLY suggest you pay cash anytime you go. DO NOT RUN A TAB - they will charge you for drinks you did not order. DO NOT RUN YOUR CREDIT OR DEBIT card, they will run it for more than what your bill was for. AND their mixed drinks are over priced.
Unfortuantly we has a similar experieince days before! To those interested in having an event or a wedding reception at 2000 Grand (The Cashew) please think twice! My Husband and I loved the Cashew. We loved the space, the view, the food was awesome, and they were flexible dealing with us all the way up to the wedding. It seemed to be the perfect spot to have an all inclusive downtown reception with an urban feel that had competing prices to other similar spaces. The problems we had occurred more after the wedding and with management. During the event it was HOT! They say the air conditioner was working which if this was true it was completely inadequate. With all the people in the space and all the windows it was burning up! All my guest on one side of the room were sweating and several of our older family members ended up having to leave early due to the heat. They did try to correct the situation by putting out large industrial fans that helped the heat but completely took away from the décor I had been working on for months prior. The second issue we dealt with was the freight elevator, which was the only access to the space except for three flights of stairs. At some point during the night the freight elevator broke which we were assured would work to help w people with disabilities which included my father, who paid for the event! Instead of trying to compensate for the elevator being broken they chose to ignore it and we were to figure out an exit strategy on our own. Not only were family members that needed assistance not able to leave the reception safely all the decorations we had brought for the reception also had to be carried down the stairs. They didn’t help with this until they were inconvenienced because people were going through the bar area with supplies. Management failed to provide alternative plans or help with either situation. These things could have been smoothed over easily because in the end we had a good time, but once mentioned to management a week after we were met with defense. The event coordinator was very apologetic and recognized the wrongs that occurred, but according to her, the owner and manager saw it very differently! Instead of offering some kind of concessions they put it all back on us and made some extreme and untrue accusations! This place is by no means cheap and we expected it to be perfect and when it wasn’t there was no real apology made. Only after meeting with them and much deliberation did they begrudgingly offer a gift card to the place. At this point it was too late; if they had offered this immediately we would have felt differently. The tactics they used to defend not offering any compensation were completely unprofessional and insulting. Please be aware of their poor customer service and lack of attention to customer satisfaction (more so with the owner and management) before booking this space!
My 2 sisters and I just went there for one of our birthdays. We did't have a reservation but there were many empty tables. The hostess asked us if we could be done in an hour or if we wanted to wait for a table. We said we would try to be done. The waiter was instructed to stay close by our table and make sure he took our order timely. after just 45 minutes, the waiter brought over the check and and the host came with him to tell us our time was up. We asked if we could be moved to one of the many empty tables. we were told they were all reserved. They were very rude and nasty and made sure to embarrass us and make us leave our table even though there were many empty tables when we left. The explanation was that they were all reserved. Until tonight that was one of my favorite places. I will never eat there again because of how badly we were treated. When we tried to complain to the girl at the register, she put her hand in our faces and said "good night ladies"..... I am very sad and disappointed.

I have never been treated so badly in my life from the staff at this place.
The staff called us kids, decided it would be a good idea to shake a dirty salty and sandy rug all over us then decided it was ok to drink heavily on the job and yell at there customers.

I really don't understand what the big deal about this restaurant is. The food isn't great, and the prices are too much for the quality of the dining experience.
Just because a restaurant is in a trendy area of town, people get all excited without realizing how much of a joke the restaurant is , really.

We were completely disappointed in the customer service. The new location and atmosphere are wonderful, yet the staff were rude when we approached them about the amount of time it took for our food to arrive. I would not recommend this restaurant for a group of people.

Several of you saw my "hat incident" postings on Twitter last night and have inquired about what happened at Fuel/Raoul's Velvet Room so I've decided to lay it out here in this blog. And yes, I'll admit it isn't the snazziest hat, but as you'll see, that's kind of beside the point.
First of all, I want to be clear that the staff at Fuel/RVR were all reasonably professional except for the manager on duty who obviously didn't know the first thing about the hospitality industry, which is simply to be polite to your guests. I wasn't even given the obvious option of just taking off my hat; instead, I was flatly told that I had to leave immediately. Of course this was after my group and I had spent a C-note or more on cover charges and drinks during the three hours we had been there.
I was utterly shocked at the manager's rudeness but decided it was time to leave anyway so I headed toward the restroom area as my ride had gone in there a few moments earlier. At that time I was approached again and told once more that I had to leave, this time by the same manager along with another employee who (guess what?) was wearing a hat conspicuously similar to mine. I explained to them that I was waiting for my ride to get out of the restroom and had no intentions of staying any longer as I was obviously not welcome there. Apparently I was not believed, and my audacity at pointing out to the manager that the other employee was wearing a hat didn't sit too well with him, as was evidenced by his continued rudeness. Once my ride emerged from the restroom she too was absolutely shocked at what was happening, so we left, along with the others in my group.
What confounds me is why Fuel/RVR did not enforce their dress code at the door before taking people's money or at least explain to guests upon arrival that there are different dress codes even though the two bars had a common entry point and a single cover charge. And just why is it that the dress code doesn't seem to apply to their own employees? Fuel/RVR's management created an unnecessarily ugly situation that resulted in several extremely dissatisfied guests solely due to their own ineptness and unprofessionalism. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Re: “Quasimodo”
Bartender who said she is the GM was terrible and RUDE, she has NO idea about booking bands, she must have lied her ass off to get the job. They should check her past employment
