Thats about right, KC Hopps is notorious for skipping out on their bills.
Unfortunately, John and the jukebox are no longer part of the scene here.
I was there when Tommy (legendary bartender) started on his first night in 85, and hung out till the late 90s !!
Went on a Friday night, the dance music was good, not a bunch of techno stuff...very nice dance floor. The other patrons were friendly and laid-back.
Under new ownership and the name is now Paci's Cafe & Taverna. Now open six days a week 11:00 AM till Midnight Monday thru Thursday and 11:00 AM till 2:00 AM Friday & Saturday. NOW SERVING FOOD...Great Lunch Specials, Meatball Grinders, Sausage Grinders, Philly Cheese Steak, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chicken Salad Roll-Ups. Huge selection of Domestic & Imported Beer, now serving Draft Beer and great selection of Cigars in our Humidor.
Missie B's is the place to go if you want to shake your groove thang! It is a veritable buffet for the senses. Upstairs has the best dance mix in the city. I have been to a lot of places and if I wanted to just listen to songs that I hear on the radio over and over, I would just stay home. The music that they mix upstairs, paired with the lights and fog machine make me feel like I am in the hottest discoteques in gay Paris (pun intended if you like...wink wink)! Nothing like it in Kansas City!!!
I was there last Friday to see my friend's band play. We were all having a great time, until the waitresses boy friend came up to us and told us not to talk to her etc. etc. The mood of our whole group changes in a very negative way.
It's not a good practice what so ever to have your waitresses' boy friend's present at the bar. I will never go here again.
Worst experience ever. We came from Tennessee to visit the KC area. Initially when we came inside the Juke joint it was a very pleasant atmosphere. There was a gentleman seated at the bar who jumped up and asked if we were there for the buffet, we replied yes and he told the young lady behind the bar. We were not told where to sit or where the buffet was located (it was not visiable). Our party arrived a short time after and they paid not only for themselves but two others who were not far behind, which she had told the bartender/cashier. Upon the third parties arrival we had told the that their meal was paid for and directed them to the buffet. She was greeted by someone who asked if she had paid and she replied that her sister had paid for her meal. When she returned to the table she ordered water but did not receive it until after I approached a waitress and requested water. While trying to enjoy this fourteen dollar meal the waitress came over and placed three receipts on our table. Two for the buffet and one for drinks we had ordered. Baffled we questioned the waitress and she said it was for the meals. After telling her that the meals were paid for she approached the bar where we were seated close by, the manager and bartender/cashier was clearly discussing rather the two of the meals were paid for or not. My sister and I approached the bar after which the bartender/cashier confirmed that the meals were paid for. My sister explained to the manager how embarrassing it was for my other sister but for the entire table. The manager was not comforting at all when explaining the poor communication that she had with her staff. Although we were very calm the manager became very defensive in her explanation. During our entire conversation she not once apologize. When we sat back down she sent the bartender/cashier over to apologize, who by the way was very pleasant and sincere. When we returned to the table my sister who was offended had went to the bathroom and was very upset. It was only after we were in the bathroom trying to comfort our sister and some other patrons came inand went back out discussing my siste being upset that the manager came in to apologize. Normally we would just leave an establishment that has poor service but it was not the service but a poor decision on the manager to direct the server to place a ticket on our table instead of coming to the table so that we could confirm the payment of the meal. When traveling to Kc we love to dine out and you can rest assure that the Juke Joint will NOT be a place that I will go to nor reccommend.
Owners are worthless pieces of shit who screw every employee that has ever worked there. Management also fucks every new girl that works there. Yes, every SINGLE manager. I hope some of your wives read this. The owner Shane is a raging tool who runs one of the shadiest bars ever. Hey, at least he gets laid regularly. Also, some girls claim that he has given them herpes. Think about working here ladies. Also, notice on craigslist that they are ALWAYS hiring. That should not be a good sign. Turnover is the sign that maybe it's not the employees ALL the time? It is the management to claim at this dump. Also, Shane's dad Mort is a total thief as well. Fuck you cashew.
Northlands best come see for yourself, don't take my word for it. If you don't come away saying that was great and i will be back soon, something is wrong with you!!!
Come one come all to Harleys and horses for a greeeat time! Food is great and Jeff the owner is very happy to see you. I guarantee a good time will be had by all
Don't forget karaoke night and the bands ROCK.
They always hang really cool art. The food is great and made in house. There are plenty of local bands, and open mic nights. Somethings to do and see every night of the week. Absolutely love Coda, and the folks who run it are awesome.
I have eaten here twice and enjoyed it both times...The food is good and so is the service..We were there oin a Sat. night and enjoyed the band immensley. We will be going back!
Fantastic food and a friendly staff- also they have a great beer selection. Thumbs up for a local happy hour spot from me. Also, they've got a great lunch special!
This place is closing it's doors on October 16, 2011. The employees have not and will not be told anything.
Great family atmosphere before the real party starts at 9PM every Friday and Saturday night. I go every other Saturday night to eat, drink and dance the night away to some of the best local bands around. I even take the kids during the day sometimes to eat, play pool, darts, they love it. Best resturant/bar in the northland in my opinion. Good food, fun people, safe too, no BS allowed.
i miss The Hurricane!! was my second home from 1994-1996!!
The food is poor. Inconsistent and does not taste good . We will not be back.
This is my bar my home and my family there is no other bar that makes me feel like part of a family not just a customer. Live music rocks, best bartenders and servers in the Northland and the best Karaoke night in Kansas City don't believe come on out and see.
Re: “The Roxy”
I had a similar experience when the spiked haired guy who was sitting at the bar came up and told our group of guys not to talk to the waitress anymore. I'm sure he was the boy friend.
