Re: “Rick West Theater

Oh and I forgot to add to my comment, the 2 people who "disliked" my comment were probably none other than Rick West himself, and that other poster who previously said his show was "5 star" entertainment, or the " best show in town"...which town? Maybe Hog Squaller Holler, or Podunk USA. That person obviously wouldn't know a SNAKE if it was staring them in the face, or they are just a poor judge of talent without a clue as to what real talent is.

Re: “Rick West Theater

It sounds as if Rick West has a lot in common with "Fake" Elvis whom I was once associated with, who also never paid his band a dime and was glad to take investor's $$ and freely spend it lavishly, ON HIMSELF and never pay back a dime even though he promised to in a legal contract. I guess these wannabe entertainers are all alike. If they were any good to begin with, and they had high character and professionalism to their credit, they wouldn't have to scam other people into helping them become a big star. God has a way of allowing people who have the right stuff and the character and professionalism, to become big stars. Meanwhile Fake Elvis(E2)and Rick West just waste away, trying to do the same thing over and over, with the same end result, just spinning their "wheels" and hurting unsuspecting fellow musicians and singers along their path. Einstein once said..."the definition of INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over, all the while expecting a different end result each time. Well, there you have it folks, INSANITY. Wannbe stars and performers like Rick West and Fake Elvis (E2) most certainly fit the insanity profile, and at the very least are big LOSERS. Give it up wannabes, take a lesson from the biggest losers...give up while you are still ahead.

Re: “Rick West Theater

Okay... I've read enough of these negative comments. Now it's my turn! Prepare to be entertained...

I worked for this loser waaayyy back in 1995 when his show first came to Branson and shared a theater building with a Chinese acrobat show that performed on a 2nd stage. I was part of the original cast of his "show"... Auditioned and "hired" as his first comedian. I had a puppet named "Fuzzball" as part of my act, and all of my material was copyrighted.

After 6 weeks of rehearsals, that we didn't get paid for, the show finally opened to "crowds" that seemed to be made up mostly of his friends and family.

I was hired at $500 a week and never saw a damned dime. In fact, none of us did, at least not at first - but keep reading, it gets better.

After 3 weeks of actual showtime with excuse after excuse concerning our non-paydays and my rent and several bills way overdue, I had had enough and rallied the cast to storm his office one night after a show to demand payment. We had worked for over 2 months with no pay.

At one point during the confontation, I asked him where our money was and why he didn't have anything to pay us and this motherfucker sat with a smug look on his face and told me "That's none of your business". I came unglued and lunged across his fucking desk and if it hadn't been for the drummer, James, and the bass player, Big John, grabbing me and hauling me out into the hallway to calm down I'd have gone to jail that night. We had all become pretty close over those 2 months (the cast, I mean) and these guys saw nothing but bad coming from my snap decision to go after West.

Then, this asswipe fires me! Ha! He bans me from the theater that night. And then, about a week later, several of my friends from the band told me this jackass went out and bought a puppet that looked just like mine and had his cousin, or some dumbfuck, doing my routine... And ruining it, no doubt.

I had to show up at the theater and tell him my act was copyrighted and warned him to stop using it. He violated our contract and had no rights to the material.

But he didn't last much longer because soon after, from what I was told, he got shut down and was told by a judge to leave town and not to return for doing something stupid. I won't go into detail about that, though, because as I stated that's just what I heard.

Anyway, wow, where do I begin to finish with this guy? Well, it seems that his mother had to keep selling off her property in Tennessee so her little boy could keep playing Elvis. I think he still uses the same brand of black hair dye. And I'd be willing to bet all of the money he owes me that he has NOT changed his Hop-along Cassidy wardrobe since 1995 - hey fucktard, country singers don't dress like the 3 Amigos anymore. He was rude to the band and apparently tried to convince them that he had a perfect ear for music and corrected them constantly, even during the show. His fucking drummer had been a child prodigy, studied at Juilliard and spent 10 years as Ronnie Tutt's backup drummer for Elvis Presley... YEAH THE REAL ONE! And West actually had the balls to try to correct him!

I had a few featured spots during the show, one of which was a bit that had West having a confusing conversation with my puppet. So, as a way to get back at him for his bullshit towards the band, I always made sure Fuzzball insulted the shit out of him every chance I got as if it was part of the show. The audience loved it! West never caught on but the band knew and laughed it up, too. I loved those guys.

But wait, there's more... West put together a full cast for his show which included a 9 piece band (made up of some of the most talented sonsabitches I have ever had the honor of sharing the stage with) complete with a brass section... yeah, you read that right - horns and shit..., 4 backup female vocalists and 2 comedians (featuring yours truly) knowing full well he would never pay any of us.

This asshole put together one hell of an ensemble and took full advantage of his chance to get a slice of Branson pie... at no cost to him. What little money the remaining cast eventually got, after most of us walked out, apparently came from his mother's liquidation of property, not from ticket sales.

I'm not sure how the holy hell this douchebag is paying anyone to this day, but, once again, I'll bet the money he owes me that most of them are doing his show for the "exposure" or out of their love of entertainment... or maybe they're just bored... or, perhaps, they're all just as dumb as we were back then to believe this no-talent con artist who is still living in fantasyland would ever pay up.

Re: “Rick West Theater

I played in the band for a short time in 2011. I heard the promises that if I stuck with him, things would take off and I'd be rewarded handsomely. Naturally, I never saw a dime. He even charged me full price for my GF at the time to see the show. Oh, the stories I could tell of how the "star" was the most unprofessional, least talented of the bunch. But I'll leave you with one anecdote that convinced me it was time to move on.

At the time, I was living 65 miles from Independence. I drove round trip each Thursday for practice and each Saturday for the big show. That's 260 miles each week. A few times, I showed up for practice only to find out it had been canceled and "I thought I told so-n-so to call you." Plus, he was talking of adding a dance night on Friday which would bump me up to nearly 400 miles a week for the chance to play for free. Anyway, Rick's mother was in the hospital and he had the audacity to complain on stage of driving nearly 100 miles that week.

If somehow the band and backup singers I worked with could wrestle the theatre away from Rick, that place could make money.

Re: “Rick West Theater

I can concur with all of the previous posters. I dont know when their blogs were posted, but I can tell you that everything said about him is true....unfortunately. I had the misfortune of working for him singing in his stage show for a brief time in 2007. He never paid me a dime, nor did he ever pay his devoted "zombie" band a dime. He must have slipped them some of that "kool-aid" bcuz they played and played for him for no pay, like he was really something. The band wasnt bad either. Sounds like another wanna-be ETA I was once associated with....who was glad to use everyone else's money, lie and deceive to get what he wanted, and to this day is still trying to be "Elvis". There will only be ONE Elvis, and no other talent can compare....and certainly not that wannabe or Rick West included. All I can say is, this outfit with Rick West and the theatre there in Indep MO was a disorganized mess. Rick soon showed his chauvanistic side by making it obvious that women were just a piece of meat to him. He disrepected me one time ON stage at a rehearsal on Sat afternoon in front of his zombie band, and that was it for me. I walked out on him, and as I left the building, his Octagenarian mother who was acting like a guard dog at the front door said to me....where are you going? I said I have had enough of disrespect an unprofessionalism. If you ask me, I think she was the one running the whole show, just to glorify the past when Rick West had a few "glory days" in Branson....and she could not let go of the past in which they were all living. I dont know what has become of Rick West today, but everyone says there are no shows anymore, and every time Im driving by that area, the theatre is deserted, and in run down condition. Never see any cars there. Guess he finally gave it up at last. This is 2014. Giving him one star because I cant post ZERO stars. Red Headed Songbird.

Re: “Rick West Theater

I am giving this 'show' one star, because I can't give it a big zero. This old guy is really weird. Just the strangest dude I have ever seen. I though the whole show was a comedy, only to find out he was seriously trying to sing. Everyone is running around, like they are a part of Jim Jones' cult and they just drank the kool aid. Save your money. This is the most boring thing in Kansas City. You'd enjoy a trip to county jail better! It'd be more entertaining than this mess.

Re: “Rick West Theater

So did Rick write the "Best show in town. Rick rocks!" review? Five stars, you can't be serious. He has always been a wanna be and will always be one. He knows nothing about entertaining and tries to convince others that he has a great career. He has broken all chances of ever working with the upper quality musicians and entertainers and now tries to find inexperienced people who don't know him and convince them he is someone great who is about to make it really big. A great example of no talent.

Re: “Rick West Theater

I know a few people who did work at the Rick West theater and were promised to be paid but never were. He has a long list of this occuring, from wait staff to contracters who all did the work and were never paid. He always wants something for free with the promise that great things will come if they wait but he is so terrible at buisness it never does. He also is a pervert so there's that too.

Re: “Rick West Theater

Might I also add no one I know who has dealt with Rick West has any good to say about him. Local country legends and folks in Branson don't know him, and want to keep it that way.
If he was so damn talented he'd made it already instead of trying to "Get the show off the ground" for the last 5-6 years.

Re: “Rick West Theater

This is a terrible thing and should not even be considered entertainment.
This man is shady and a snake, and has no right telling other musicians how to play.
I earned a CMA award for top musicians and will never work with this man.

Re: “Musical Theater Heritage at Crown Center

This is an excellent place to see a show. The venue is intimate, there's a full bar with reasonable drink prices, and the shows are top-notch!

Re: “Starlight Theatre

Starlight is one of a kind. I would say it is the best outdoor venue in Kansas City. The staff is amazing, crowd control, and traffic control is always perfect too.

Re: “Rick West Theater

As far as I am concerned the Rick West show is one of the worst so called "professional Shows" in Kansas City. I don't know how long it has been since Rick West has picked up a guitar in Branson, but his show is far from being on par with any of the contemporary entertainers i have seen in southern, MO. West's show is absolutely unprofessional. There are players making mistakes, singers who can't hold a tune, a sound woman who needs to get a real job and repetitive incidents of West bossing people around in the middle of shows, adjusting and directing the sound person and lighting requests. If you want to see how it isn't supposed to be done this is the show for you. I will only take you one trip to the Rick West Theater to get what I am communicating. If you would rather get some value for your ticket price you might check out some other class night clubs or venues in the KC area. This is one place the train wont be stopping.
