Re: “DiCarlo's Mustard Seed Mexican-Americana Restaurant & Bar

This place gave my entire family food poisoning. I had to take everyone to the hospital shortly after finishing dinner.

Re: “Harry's Country Club

I arrived to celebrate the 30th birthday of one of my best friends last friday. After 3 years of marriage to a best friend of ours, he found Harry's Country Club to be a new and interesting venue to host the party for them and 34 close friends. Having planned this event with the bar owner, "Harry," over one month in advance, my friend Matt was surprised to find there was no area saved for the party, as they arrived at seven O'clock. After rounds of drinks were ordered, many of the group who wanted to walk into the bar's outside courtyard were told they needed to pay a $5.00 cover. Harry had promised not to charge any cover should Matt bring his party to his establishment. Although he initially told Matt his friends who smoke could go to the street, he eventually begrudingly allowed smokers who could not exit the bar with the $4 beer they had purchased to use the courtyard as long as they stood in a far back corner. His doorman made patronizing and belittling comments to those in the party who wanted to leave the stiflingly hot bar, as the air conditioner did not preform any function but to drip on the tables below. Our group finally left, 2 hours after arriving, when the bar owner, Harry, repeatedly sought out members of the party to threaten with removal if they had a problem with the service he was providing. Harry turned a woman's 30th birthday, with friends who traveled far to celebrate with her, into an argument with no winner. Not the angry bar-owner who lost a customer base. Not the wait staff, that lost further tips. Not the friends who gathered to celebrate. I would never again trust this bar with my good time and hope you will not either.

Re: “Location-less Comments

I ate lunch here and thought the meal adequate but due to the rather kind reviews we decided to give it another try. We ordered 40 dollars worth of carryout. The appetizers did not make into the order although they wwere paid for and the owner's response was not a good one. The rest of the meal was barely edible and very skimpy. The ribs were decent. The shrimp (garlic ginger) were little frozen guys with no flavor and the fried rice was mush. The vegetables were overcooked and tasteless and the Mandarin sesame salad was a joke. It was one of the worst meals I'd eaten in the Kansas City area and I eat out a great deal. I love Vietnamese and this was terrible. I shall never return...not even for the five dollar free appetizer he offered us although we had already paid for the appetizer we never got.

Re: “Tasso's Greek Restaurant

The only effort worth noting is Tasso's continuous schtick to separate you from your money.Food quality is lacking and meals are severely delayed to encourage you to drink more as well as the staff's continuous soliciting drink orders. The entertainment is corny at best.Don't waste your time.

Re: “DiCarlo's Mustard Seed Mexican-Americana Restaurant & Bar

I have been to this restaurant 2 times now, each time as unimpressing as the last. The food is decent, but the service is atrocious. Both times we have had to ask for a server after being seated and waiting 20 minutes or more. And a warning to anyone who does not want to be overcharged: My bill was incorrect (7/12/2008), I was charged for 2 orders of chips and salsa I did not purchase and 2 drinks I did not have and the 'Manager' was unwilling to remove the charges. I was told, "This is where it stands, sometimes you have to pay for your friends' food." All in my party paid their bill, no one was trying to shrug charges. I will never return to that establishment, I have never encountered such poor management.

Re: “Chefburger - CLOSED

If I am going to eat at a place that serves only burgers I expect them to be cooked to the temperature that I request, and in the very least seasoned with salt and pepper. The burger was an embarrasment to meat. I love the idea of garlic with fries; however, raw garlic is not what I had in mind the taste of the raw garlic that completely covered my fries stayed with me the whole day. Would I go back to chefburger? Not even if it was free.

Re: “Justus Drugstore

This restaurant is one of the few that actually have to pay for there good reviews...seriously! I visited with my family on June 28th at around 5:45 p.m. a Saturday they told us there was no way we could get in that evening, that they were too busy, but if we would like to sit on the patio we could get in right away. We arrive...i talk to hostess that tells me that there is no room for our party of 5! (empty tables everywhere) until i tell her we called 10 minutes earlier and that they told me that they could seat us on the patio...so she says let me check (undecided). I explained to my party that i did not think they wanted our business since she ignored me 10 minutes after stating she would be right back...blah blah blah! ten minutes later she chases me out to my car and says no problem we can seat you... so we all proceed to unload the car and head to our table....so good so far! (ya right)! until we are finished with our 22nd glass of water 1 hour later and told that two of our entree's have been given to a different party and that the owner would like to buy us desert for our inconvenience. I myself am not a big desert person so i pass....the other partie members take advantage of her offer and order desert (bad idea) they bring me the bill and charge me for all 4 deserts that were suppose to be free. I tell the waiter and he starts shaking uncontrollably because he says we were only suppose to get 1 free desert...but they charged me for all 4...huh...what's that all about? anyway my experience was terrible to say the least...food sucks, service is even worse and my poor sister has to live in the same town as this phony restaurant!

Re: “Saigon 39

I have been by this place many times. My wife, daughter and I were in the area so we decided to try this place many because it has been around for a long time. Bad choice. The (new owners?) now have the place next door too but instead of a bistro they treat like a fast food asian place. The Vietnamese special soup was terrible. The soup itself was nothing special, had few vegetables or meat. Very disappointing. My wife and daughter both orderd the mixed vegetables and they came out with no sauce, condiments or nothing. The other entrees basicly have meat, seafood or chicken and have their special sauces thrown in. Nothing special, nothing unique. Avoid this place at all costs. Don't waste your money like I did. The Vietnamese ones elsewhere (Westport is so good).

Re: “The Drum Room

My experience at the hotel and restaurant on 5/20/08 while dining in the Drum Room restaurant was less acceptable. Arriving early, no one was out front for valet parking (for which there is a $16 charge). I had to physically go inside of the hotel and find someone. I had 6:30 p.m. reservations in the Drum Room for weeks, however, it wasn't needed as there were only 4 other tables at the time with occupants. It was my daughter's birthday and we were celebrating in what we had anticipated, a well-run, well-known, exceptional restaurant which we had eagerly awaited the reopening of based upon the reviews in the KC magazine. Unfortunately, service and food was horrendous. Upon the 2 of us being seated, there were 4 place settings at our table. Normally, when 2 people sit at table, the other settings are removed. I had to request these be taken away and was met by the waitress with somewhat of a surprise and disdain that I had actually requested it, her response was "normally, we just leave them, do you really want them taken away?" (I'm sorry, would I have asked if I wanted them removed if I didn't? Does this mean that they have to do physical labor after we leave and clean the table and reset up for the next reservation...something struck me oddly then...was this place unsanitary?) Water eventually was served and the waitress came around to share the nightly special. We ordered martini's and our food and made mention that (as noted in my reservation, it was my daughter's birthday and we had tickets for the production at the Music Hall). The waitress was less than pleasant, had an attitude and did not speak clearly. Clearly it was bothersome to her that we were even there. After sitting for several minutes the waitress was hurriedly walking past our table and mentioned over her shoulder, "the salads are being prepared" - finally, they arrived..the waitress held them in her hands and made us take our plates from her. She did not serve us. I had to ask where the entree's were and she explained that "she had to work that room and the bar and there was only one chef that evening" -- no apology for the lateness, no response that she would be happy to check on it, etc. She did say my daughter's was ready but they were having to prepare mine. We were both served scallops and shrimp. After 45 minutes, the entree's arrived..the waitress told us to hand her the salad plates. In exchange, we got our entree's. My daughter's food was over-prepared, tough and dry. Mine was fine with the exception, both meals tasted terrible. We could not get another glass of iced tea to save our lives, we were virtually ignored after the entree's were served. At this point in the evening we now had 15 minutes to finish eating and leave for the theatre. Truthfully, it took less than 5 minutes to determine the food was terrible, forget the dessert, forget the fact we weren't served additional ice teas while we had moved our glasses to the edge of the table so they would SEE them...we just wanted to leave and try to forget the experience. The hostess apologized for the lateness and gave a handwritten "free 1 dessert" slip of paper along with my check. Not acceptable. I will not ever return to this hotel & restaurant. The service was ridiculous, food and drinks were over priced, not to mention uneatable. What can I say..my daughter's birthday celebration was ruined by this establishment. I remained pleasant and approachable because I realize what a difficult position it is serving the public, however, I have also enjoyed fine dining all over the world and this experience was embarrassing for Kansas City and Hilton Hotels of which I have been a Diamond member and a current Zagat member. I have reported this lack of service to both the Hilton Corporation and the restaurant. A further lack of acknowledgement of their part is a true indication that they are NOT customer oriented or even making the necessary actions to prevent this in the future. I truly worry about the reflection on Kansas City from visitors after they experience this hotel and restaurant. BOTTOMLINE...save your money, time, and go elsewhere. Pathetic!

Re: “Location-less Comments

I also agree with the below comments from Sonia. I know someone who used to work there and they have been telling me the exact same things. As a matter of fact, things are already headed in that direction now. That is why this is a former employee. They were told yesterday that they wouldn't get there money this and that, and that they could leave or stay. As a matter of fact, to my knowledge Chucky T isn't even there anymore. They are changing the name. This establishment has really gone to shambles.

Re: “Granny's Chicken Ranch

Granny's Chicken Ranch is the worst restaurant out at The Legends in Wyandotte County. Let me explain to you how our Mother's Day nightmare played out. My husband, daughter and I wanted to take my mother, and grandmother out to a nice chicken dinner after attending a very lovely and special church service Sunday morning. We arrived at the Granny's Chicken Ranch at 1215pm. The hostess informed us it would be 1 1/2 hour wait and we accepted because my Grandma loves chicken. Well we waited and waited to see at least 75 other people that came after us enter the restaurant and be seated. At this point we were told that there was a call in list. After waiting 1 1/2 hours we inquired as to when we would be seated and were told we were coming up soon. When we hit the 2 1/2 hour mark my husband again asked the hostess when we would be seated especially since we had our 84 year old Grandma waiting that long, she again said we would be seated after the next 4 groups. (SO WE WAITED) Finally at 345pm we were actually seated at a table. (3 1/2 hour wait) We ordered promptly and had a very sweet waitress. We ordered our 5 four piece chicken dinners at 350pm, and at 430 pm we were yet to have our chicken dinners. The waitress at one point told us that they had run out of chicken and had to go to the store to get more. We did have salad and biscuits, but still no food. Think about this we were there 4 hours and 15 minutes at this point. I was extremely embarrassed that we took our lovely mother and grandmother out to what was supposed to be a wonderful dinner. Finally at 445 pm (4 1/2 hours after we arrived) we finally got our food. This food was definitely not worth the almost FIVE HOUR wait for it. We then informed the manager at this point that we were upset at the wait, and service of the managers to not speak with us concerning this issue. They gave every excuse in the book trying to find excuses why their service was so poor. The hostess/manager stated to another manager that we refused to pay our bill and she called the police dept. I informed another "manager" that we did not want a free meal but would like a discount since we had been there half the day. They were not willing to give us a discount and the cops had already been called. My husband explained to the cops what had happened, and they stated we had to pay the bill (which we just wanted a discount , not a free meal). Anyways we ended up paying the whole meal ,(no discount) to keep from being arrested. This so called "family restaurant" was not willing to work with us, or even consider coming half way with us. I would not suggest this very poorly managed restaurant to anyone, let alone if you are planning to celebrate a special event. This group at Granny's (the many managers they have) were not willing to satisfy the customer. They were bringing in more and more customers who would sit there after us, knowing that they could not accommodate them for reason of seating or to the fact that they ran out of chicken. The owner never once offered to apologize, or even offer a discount after what our family experienced. My husband and I are making a point to all of our friends, coworkers, acquaintances, family, and anyone we meet to tell them to do not eat at this establishment.

Re: “Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue

I tried out this place called Jack Stack BBQ a little while back, It was on the Plaza in Kansas City. I wanted to try it because it is supposedly the #1 rated BBQ in Kc according to the Zagat's survey. From the outside the aroma was good, it smelled like smokin meat so that was a plus. On the inside the aroma was stronger and making my mouth water, the ambiance was nice, almost kinda upscale, but very loud, you almost had to yell across the table, it was a saturday night so they were very busy. I ordered the premium small end spare ribs ($15.50), and was very disappointed, there wasnt much flavor, NO noticeable smoke ring, and it was like they didn't put any rub on them, they definetly didn't pull the membrane either which really surprised me. Overall they were tender, but not as good as the ones I make at home. I was also disappointed by their sauce....it looked like a tomato based sauce, but once again VERY tasteless! I also has a side of baked beans which were just "ok" but nothing special! The prices are kind of on the high side, but I do have to say they have a very wide assortment of different meats... They have things like Lamb ribs, Crown prime beef short ribs, New Zealand rack of lamb, Beef back slab, and of course pork spares and baby back. They also have steaks, seafood, etc. I scored this place low because I felt it should have been much better, especially for the price and the #1 rating. I know in KC I can get some awesome BBQ, just not at this place.

Re: “Location-less Comments

KC is known for steak houses. This is one to miss. We had an early dinner mid week that was forgetable. Start with there really is not a non smoking area. The smell from the bar that is the middle of the restaurant goes everywhere. The place had not been cleaned at 4:30pm from lunch. The waitress admitted the dishwasher didn't come in until 5pm. She took 5 minutes to find silverware. She seemed more interested in talking to the bar staff than us. Finally the food was just OK and certainly not worth the price. In KC we're spoiled with great places for steak. Skip this place and head to Hereford House, Plaza III or any of the chain steakhouses.

Re: “Location-less Comments

Single worst dining experience - the food was distasteful and to add insult to injury, the staff could have cared less that I disliked the food. They did not even bother to take it off of my cheque and proceeded to argue with my personal taste and intimated that it was my problem that I did not like how the food tasted. The wine list was subpar at best; Minsky's or Pizzeria Uno has a better selection - which isn't saying much. Don't waste your time or money - walk across the street to Saigon 39, bring your own btl of wine and pay the corking fee, it will be more rewarding.
