Oh. My. God.
Can you say clusterf***? The place is, to quote, "demented and sad but social".
I've been there quite a bit. I will probably not go back except to drink, maybe. I've told my friends that we should eat somewhere else and really only go there for drinks if necessary. I'm telling you this too.
Atmosphere is very pretty but just know that with all of it's glitz it lacks ev-e-ry-thing else.
Then I first went there, last year, the place was awesome.
They had this wacky chef who made very interesting cuisine, and he would come out and chat with you about it. The food was amazing. There was a pretty solid staff and the atmosphere was delightful.
Since then every plate that I liked has been removed from the menu. A couple of wines I liked are no more. For this restaurant wanting to be known for sake, that menu certainly hasn't grown much. Cocktails have become bizzaro >Pernod tastes like liquorice people, just so you know

I recently dined into Aixois for the first time yesterday (Monday 11/26) evening to celebrate my birthday. I am new to the Brookside area and was pleased when I discovered one of the Kansas City originals within walking distance of my home. I WAS WRONG.
When we first arrived the hostess leads us to a table towards the back. Nice and quiet. The place was steady, but still relatively slow considering it's a Monday.
The bus boy, who was very pleasant, presented my date and I with waters.
Immediately after, an obnoxious waiter resembling Baloo from "The Jungle Book", greets us with a salutation similar to one you would expect at Macaroni Grill, or any other run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Rude and over-anxious, he immediately wanted a drink order. My friend and I both needed, oh, maybe 45 seconds to look over the wine list. My date needed more time and I told him I was going to stick with water. Baloo did not seem pleased.
At this point, although feeling rushed, the experience was not totally ruined. Baloo returned and my friend ordered a French beer. Again, I explained to Baloo that I only wanted water.
Baloo not happy!
My date and I ordered the two most expensive entrees on the menu and Baloo retrieved our menus.
Baloo delivered our soup and salad and then delivered my entree. I ordered salmon and it was entirely overcooked. Our food had already taken such a long time, I really wasn't in the mood to send it back. My friend's Steak au Poives, however, was delicious. He checked back before we'd had a chance to taste our food, and offered my friend another beer. My friend said, "not now, but in a few minutes".
I notice a man in a bad suit walking around to various different tables around the restaurant. Ours, you ask? Nope.
Baloo finally returned about 15 minutes AFTER we had finished our meal to take our plates.
There is nothing worse than having a plate in front of you, sitting there, fermenting like the bad wine list.
Baloo did not offer dessert, which was a bit disappointing considering it was a birthday celebration. We asked for our check.
The Bad Suit is still greeting other tables....apparently birthdays make you invisible.
Fifteen minutes later, our check finally arrived. I am beyond irritated at this point. Our jolly waiter's tip is steadily dissipating. My friend never got second beer, and Baloo missed out on a $7 check increase.
The credit card, in very plain view, was sitting on the end of our table for at least another 10-15 minutes.
Let me reiterate, the place was not even close to busy, or full.
Baloo must have used morse code to transmit the credit card, because, this, again, took about 15 minutes. My opinion of Aixios is ruined and Baloo will barely be able to afford a bunch of bananas with my paltry tip.
Needless to say, the food was less than fair, overpriced and the service, was, well, you know now!

Terrible service on Saturday nights! The karaoke is fun but you'll have to wait through 4 or 5 songs to get your beer.

I went to Princess Gardens for the 1st time tonight. I went with the understanding that it was a simple, old-fashioned Chinese place. Which, it was. But I found the food somewhat bland, fresh... but bland. The service was just ok, it started very slow (10 minutes to order, 15 until we got any drinks), and sped up a bit towards the end. The place was pretty dead, so I didn't understand the wait for service.
I ordered a glass of KD Chard, which was $9! I mean, a whole bottle at Costco is that much.
I must also mention the music, creepy. Atmosphere, creepy. I felt like I was in a Tarantino movie and something weird was about to happen. Luckily, it didn't.
I would not say it was a bad experience, but I have no desire to go again. Instead, I would recommend Blue Koi or Ghengis Kahn on 39th St. It's not near Princess Garden, but well worth the trip.

Sushi is not fresh. Other dishes are overpriced and bland. Chefs don't know how to make the rolls or sushi very well as they kept falling apart.
Service is also abysmal. Atmosphere is great however. Go there to hang out and drink, just don't eat there.

The owner is a joke and a compulsive liar. Please beware he double books dates then wants to scam to have you pay more to secure your date over someone else. Bad construction going on around the building that gets guest cars dirty. Really not worth your time here.

The Wall Street Journal recently said Arthur Bryant's is overrated. They were right. Oh, and watch out for the grease-covered floors, because you might bust your ass.

Maybe it was because it was a Thursday night but this was not good. Having been to the bar late night a couple of times I decided to take a date for the food. Only five tables were occupied at 8pm...not a good sign for a new restaurant. The server was new so I don't blame her as much as management for not preparing her. Here's the thing, if I can make the same dishes better than the restaurant, there's a problem. In fact, when my caesar arrived I even said: "No, I ordered the caesar." Oil and a splash of lemon juice...yikes! The chicken was just ok and my date's mushroom pasta was just mediocre. This place might not be around for long.

This was a special dinner for four and it was so mediorce that it is hard to explain. Food with no garnishes, side dishes plopped down on a crowded table in gratinee dishes that looked cafeteria style. One out of two $85 wines was really great, one should not have been on the wine list. Total cost with tip $500. Excellent view and excellent service. There are just too many fabulous restaurants in KC to have to go here except for a cocktail and the view.

Re: “Nara”
(continued) Every waiter/waitress I liked has been removed as well. The bar staff has improved, immensely. But good luck getting a good seat! The bar is so tiny for them to be focusing all of the place's energy on it. The sushi is awsome. Very fresh. Takes a while but if you saw how small the sushi bar was you'd understand.
