Re: “The Bunkhouse

Everything Tim from Brookside wrote is spot on except he didn't say anything about the Weston Bluegrass Festival held in the Bunkhouse parking lot last weekend. We had a great time and met the Bunkhouse's owners Rachel Jackson and Katie Galloway when we couldn't find a place to sit. The place was packed. Rachel and Katie cleared an area and brought some chairs and beers. We really love this place and will be back.

Re: “The Bunkhouse

Where to start on the Bunkhouse? Happy place. Welcoming staff. You'll be friends with the bartender or server before you leave. Best juke box in the region, stuffed with quarters from John and Katie Galloway. I have little ones and bring them out to sit on the porch with me over lunch. And when I have out-of-town guests looking for something unique (meaning what a true tavern used to look like), I take them to the Bunkhouse at night. The place is a destination for sure. If you're coming to Kansas City, take the drive to Weston. If you're in Weston, you know already.

It's a tavern, so it goes without saying that their beers are ice cold. What you don't expect is good cocktails and food. They have both. And I mean it. Name a drink and they can do it. If not, my guess is you'll be so pleased with the atmosphere you won't care. Their burgers are what you think about when you remember burgers, like when you were a kid and your parents took you out to celebrate after little league. Or that burger following drinking all night when you were 23. Solid. The fries. Solid. Fried pickles. Good.

Bordain would have liked this place and should have stopped by during his visit to the Kansas City. When he comes back, I'm taking him myself.

Re: “La Parrilla

My boyfriend and I went to the restaurant's new location in Olathe, KS. It was a Sunday around 5:30pm not busy at all. I ordered the Baja Fish Taco's, my boyfriend ordered the steak fajitas. Both were so so we were charged an additional $1.00 for asking for more tortilla's for the fajitas. The chips and salsa were small portion. The waitress didn't know the menu and had to ask about what was included, she also had trouble making change. This restaurant needs to step up their game.

Re: “The News Room - CLOSED

Will never go there again!

Bartender took my debit card and said he'd open a tab. Later, he claimed I'd never given him one and had no tab.

When I tried to talk to him about it, he got pissy and accused me of yelling at him b/c I was too drunk...I'd had half of one drink, and was not yelling at all.

I paid for two more drinks with my other card, and tipped him extra to try to smooth things over.

I WAS CHARGED $31 FOR TWO DRINKS (bottom shelf) on the card he claimed he didn't have!!!

I didn't authorize payment, didn't sign anything, didn't tip anything, and reported the card lost that night, and yet SOMEHOW a mysterious disappearing tab that was supposed to be $11 became $31 on a card I never got back!

That required a forged signature!

$20 of bank fraud is still bank fraud! NEVER trust a crook to pour your drinks!

Fuck that place.

Re: “Bazooka's Showgirls

Best place to go to see beautiful approachable women. And get them to dance on your lap! Hot dancers, friendly no pressure. Great times.

Re: “Nick and Jake's Bar and Grill

This restaurant is not a chain! It's locally owned with only two Kansas City Metropolitan areas, one in Missouri and one in Kansas, respected to each owner's home. Read their back story on nickandjakes.com to learn more about the owners and origins of this restaurant!
Also, the food, wait staff, and managers are all superb! Having a dining or sporting experience in this locally owned restaurant is never a let down!

Re: “Jovito's Italian Cafe

Astonished at the incredibly rude treatment of a table of customers last week. The woman who owns this place was actually shouting at them about bringing in a birthday treat. You can bring your own wine just don't bring a cupcake. Wow! Food is mediocre, service would have to rate an "F" We won't be back again.

Re: “The Bunkhouse

If you're headed to Weston (or just happen to be in the area), this is the only place you need to stop. Ice cold beer. Best burgers in Platte County. You won't be disappointed.

Re: “The Bunkhouse

The Bunkhouse is a classic roadside tavern--popular with the locals and the occasional NKC, St. Jo., or Atchison visitor. Renovated during the summer of 2011, the new owners have upgraded the interior and the menu. They are committed to providing a unique and friendly experience--whether its live music or MNF. Try the burger and a bud. You will not be disappointed.

Re: “The Bunkhouse

This place rocks. One of the last great bars left in the region in my opinion - the food is awesome too.

Re: “R.G.'s Lounge

This club is Missouri NOT Kansas... It's across from Dixon's Chili at the corner of 40 Hwy and Blue Ridge.. Just about 1.5 miles north of the Stadiums..

Re: “JJ's Restaurant

Went to JJ's last night and was pleasantly surprised. I had heard they had a great wine list, and that was absolutely spot on. We had the Lobster and Shrip pockets as as app as recommended by the Waiter...great choice. We ordered steaks, which come with a salad and 2 other vegetables. Very nice to go somewhere and everything not be ala carte. After discussing wines for 5 minutes he recommended something cheaper than what I was considering. Overall excellent atmosphere, knowledgeable and attentive staff and great food.

Re: “Denim and Diamonds

Crowded, lots of line dances and people of the older generation. Expensive drinks and cruddy bathrooms. But other than that, a lot of fun! Great for kicking back and letting loose. Good food and pool. Clean.

Re: “Papu's Cafe

We love this little place. The food is deelish and the charming little garden on the west side of the building is perfect for a family sit down dinner. (Bring your own high chair, or booster seat.)
We loved the Falafel appetizer and had the Gyro platter and Shawarma platter for dinner. Both were very good and come with Tabouleh salad, hummus that is light and exquisitely seasoned and extra pita ( which is very fresh and light as well). I favor Greek dolmas, so trying the Dolmas appetizer seemed a bit mushy and too much like pasta sauce to me, but overall the food & experience are worth repeating. We will be regulars here.

Re: “Off Center Theatre

This is an excellent place to see a show. The venue is intimate, there's a full bar with reasonable drink prices, and the shows are top-notch!
