Re: “Club Sparks

You would not catch me stepping foot inside this trash & horribly staffed establishment, nothing buts gangs gather there. I was in the place for a birthday party when 6 people got stabbed & beating by a gang back in October 2008. The bouncers did NOTHING to help to people instead they mazed them so they wouldn't defend themselves. One of the guys heart stopped beating when he was in the ambulance those animals that attacked them tried to slice his throat. Not a safe place will NOT EVER set foot there.

THIS IS NOT A MOTEL/HOTEL/INN - This is a Masonic Fraternity. There are no rooms to let, rarely even anyone there to answer the phone.

Re: “Aristocrat Motors

Pretentious and snooty. A car dealer that refuses to deal. I used to use them years ago when i drove a porsche, so when i moved back into the area, and wanted a porsche or mercedes, decided to give them a try. I went looking at cars and was ignored, even had someone make eye contact and pick up the phone to make a fake call so they wouldn't have to talk to me. Tried another car department and was ignored there too. Unless you have bought from them before, they act like you are something they scraped off the bottom of their shoe! I called and attempted to get an appointment and it took over a week to speak to someone. I had to actually contact one of the executive staff, and have them order someone to contact me. I guess the used car sales manager didn't like that and became rude and obnoxious when he finally contacted me by phone. The used car manager told me that the prices were non-negotiable at Aristocrat, that was their "Policy" unless you want the warranty or certification removed, also they would only give under "rough" blue book on my trade in, which is far from the case on the condition of my car. I mean really, no negotiations period? The car I was looking at was 5k above "average retail" on blue book! He said they soell more cars outside of Kansas City, so they can ask a higher price and that, they didn't care if anyone in Kansas City bought a car there. Also found out one of the cars I wanted to see, a Porsche 911 Targa 4, they were trying to get out onto the floor was only a few years old and rusted through! So much for certification! What else have they passed on to the public?! I would recommend going across I35 to the other German car dealership there, they actually want to get your business, not act like you owe them, or across town to the other Mercedes Dealership, or do like the Used Car Sales Manager suggested, buy a car online from somewhere else and make them work on it!

Re: “Revolution Church

Yesterday I witness an ongoing problem with this Church. It serves a soup kitchen to homeless people with no supervision on the outside. I'm not against soup kitchens. 2 homeless men were fighting outside. The police were called. 1 man arrested. Its chaos on the outside of this church, besides the fighting, yelling and screaming. We have a business near this church along with other businesses. We tried talking to the person in charge, Doug McNally and absolutely no cooperation with him. It might look pretty on the inside of the church, but on the outside needs some cleaning up. It reminds me when Jesus was upset that his House became a den of thieves. For shame, on the head Pastor. I dont think their looking for a solution? I think KC Revolution Church, at 40th and Washington Street, will do nothing?

Was this review helpful to you?

Re: “Hamburger Mary's

Request to all:

Please do not patronize Hamburger Mary's.

A few months back we were at a Hamburger Mary's BearBust having a great time. Normally we just pay in cash throughout the night, but since we hadn't gone to the ATM, the bartenders on the upper patio suggested we open a tab. We did. At the end of the evening, I asked the bartender what our tab was and he said it was $89. When checking our bank account, we noticed that our bill, which was $89 on the receipt I signed plus tip was showing on the account twice (one at $89 and the other at $99)

We waited a day or so to see if the second charge would be removed and it wasn't. We therefore disputed the charge with the bank. It was resolved with the smaller of the two charges being refunded to our account.

Today, we were at Hamburger Mary's. Had lunch and was enjoying beers and time with friends on the patio and were approached by the two bartenders from the upper patio who suggested we open a tab. We were told that we were no longer welcomed there due to a "conflict of interest". They said this was at the direction of the manager. After repeated requests, we were never able to talk to the manager directly. In fact, it was almost as if they were trying to avoid having to get the manager.

So, I would urge everyone to check your account statement when using your credit or ATM cards at Hamburger Mary's. Particularly upstairs. I originally just chalked this up to some sort of mistake. They happen. But after being approached and "tossed out" by the two bartenders who also were involved with the disputed charge, I fear there may be something more sinister happening. I hope I am wrong, but the situation is really odd to me.

I hope we all may find some other place to enjoy time with friends.

Thank you for your support.

Re: “Tower Tavern

I am writing this review based on a very recent experience at Tower Tavern. This review is relevant to how poorly the staff treats their customers especially when they are favoring bar patrons who are friends of the staff and owner. This establishment supports domestic violence. Especially, one of the owners who is a corrupt, chauvinistic drunk who will publicly humiliate you with unscrupulous lies in order to protect his drunken investments who regularly feeds his insatiable alcoholic cravings. He has no regard for human decency or women. The owner that I speak of is the geeky drunk with the glasses, Grant, that stands on the side of the bar getting loaded with other bar patrons. If you don't mind this type of behavior, then kudos to you. However, if you have any decency and respect for women, then I suggest that you stay out of this place. Domestic violence should not be tolerated. As a business, Tower Tavern should do what is best to make sure that people are not being abused by their partners. It is not acceptable to humiliate anyone any more than what their abuser has already done, even if you are friends of the abuser.

Re: “KC Rep, Copaken Stage

This was a preachy, boring mess. I could not fathom how anyone can think that this makes good theater, especially KC Rep, who I'm a season subscriber to and have high hopes and standards for. It's beyond disappointing.

Re: “Capital Grille

Overpriced, inconsistent quality. This was our favorite place for many years but not anymore. "Attire, business casual" is a joke. Bermudas and "T" shirts are common and the noise level is so loud, we could carry on a conversation only by almost shouting. Won't go back.

Re: “Pete and Mac's

Only gave 1 star because giving 0 was not an option.

We had a family gathering recently and since our cat needed thyroid medicine administered twice daily, we decided to board her for the first time since we've lived in the Phoenix area. We elected to use Pete & Macs in Avondale because they were a recommended provider through my husband's office.

Our experience with Pete & Mac's has been an ongoing nightmare. I can truly say I've never dealt with a business so thoroughly and unapologetically incompetent as P&M. It's so over the top that it would almost be like a bad restaurant or movie you love to hate - if it wasn't for the fact that my cat's health was at stake and, in this case, permanently damaged.
So where to start.

There are some more minor issues that bothered me, such as not being able to spell out names correctly after we filled out multiple forms or charging us for a photo disc but then not providing one because they didn't have enough material to make one during nine days of boarding. That was strange to us, and after several phone calls and several weeks, that money was finally refunded.
However, the biggest issue was that when we returned from our trip, our cat was permanently blind.

We had called numerous times while away and were assured that the cat was doing fine. It was obvious from her behavior upon pick-up and her abnormally large pupils that something was amiss. Her behavior was distraught and she didn't seem to recognize us. We rushed her to the vet to find that she had retinal detachment and would never see again. Had we heard about this at the time it occurred, some form of medical intervention might have been possible. We'll never know.

We immediately sought the records but they gave many reasons to not turn them over including claiming that our cat had never been there and they had no record of her or of us - despite the receipts, account numbers and charges that all left a paper trail My vet called and couldn't obtain records either. Two weeks later, we finally received records with minimal information.

The resistance to communicating with us leads us to wonder if they have something to hide; at first our suspicion was that a tranquilizer had been administered without permission, but when the stupor never wore off, that seemed less likely. In retrospect, incompetence in care and inattention to the cats well-being most likely were all that transpired. Still, a nagging thought lingers that, as the vet suggested, retinal blindness often results from facial injuries (being struck, falling, etc.).

The worst part about all of this is that we will never know what happened or what could have been done - again, because of the horrible communication during and after the whole experience.
We're still stunned that they wouldn't notice such a big change physical and behavioral in an animal in their care - and that they wouldn't act to care for her or even inform us of what was happening. How little attention could they have been paying to not at least notice she was distressed?

Our previously spunky, independent cat is now hesitant, needy and trying to learn her way around the apartment by sound and scent. At times she is inconsolable.

We just wanted to share the word about our experience and I would ask anyone who cares about their pet to think very, very seriously before bringing their animal anywhere near this place for the sake of their pets and for the mental and emotional health of the owners.

Re: “Bloom Baking Company

TLDR version: Be cautious using debit or credit cards here. I recommend paying only with cash, especially if your transaction is under the minimum $10. Ask for a receipt and check it before you leave.

I was very disappointed with my experience at Bloom yesterday. They were quite busy, which is normal for a Saturday morning. I realized as I was in line that I didn't have any cash with me. I asked the gentleman behind the counter whether they take debit cards, and he responded affirmatively but did not mention that there is a $10 minimum card charge. I didn't discover this until I got to the register, prepared food in hand, and my total was only $8.36.

I quickly asked the woman working the register what else I could easily add to the transaction to get over the minimum amount. She told me not to worry about it and she ran my card. I really appreciated this and thought it was very nice of this small local company to give a customer a break in a pinch. I wasn't offered a receipt, but I figured it wasn't important and I didn't want to delay the long line any further, so I collected my purchases and left. I actually walked away thinking happily that this was a great example of the terrific service that small businesses are able to offer their customers.

Not so fast!

Today I logged in to balance my bank activity and realized that rather than giving me a break on being short of the minimum transaction amount, the employee at the register had simply added $2 to my total and charged me $10.36 for my items, without asking me if this was OK, or allowing me to quickly select something like a baguette to tip me over the minimum. It's only two dollars, I realize, which is far from a large amount, but in principle it's incredibly offensive to have been treated this way.

Eight dollars is pretty hefty for a croissant and small coffee to begin with. The two dollar involuntary tip makes the price more or less unconscionable.

I would like to give this business the benefit of a doubt and assume that their employees have not been specifically trained to do this, but regardless, I will certainly never return to Bloom on the basis of this experience. Their food, although dramatically overpriced, is excellent. But unless you're paying with cash I would be very wary of them.

Re: “Blanc Burgers & Bottles

Expensive, tasteless meat in the burger. Very poor service. Server neglected many times to stop and ask if we needed anything from condiments to drinks. Had to hail him down like you would a cabbie in New York. My money is better spent elsewhere. Not planning on returning. Work too hard for my money..

Re: “Tomfooleries

To Tomfooleries Restaurant & Bar, I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME AT YOUR ESTABLISHMENT & WILL DISCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE I KNOW FROM DOING SO AS WELL!!! I have never received such terrible customer service from a restaurant before, especially when the food & drinks are subpar at best!!! Your management staff needs to have extensive training on how to speak with & treat customers, they turned an evening of good times and celebration into a very negative experience. Unless you retrain your night time management staff or replace them I think it will negatively impact your companies bottom line in the future!!!!

Re: “Chop Tops Hair Company

BEWARE!!!! Less than Two Weeks before my wedding they told me they couldn’t do my hair or my bridesmaids hair.... and they did it through an EMAIL!!!
Now--about a week before my wedding --- After I had already spending more than $200 on my pre wedding appointments--
NOW after all that time I spent discussion and emailing the styles about what was suppose to happen on the day of the wedding day...Well --IT”S ALL DOWN THE DRAIN...NOW I have to find someone else to do the wedding hair and makeup... did I mention they cancelled it through EMAIL!
I thought I had a verb agreement with them but that didn’t matter, we even narrowed down a time around 9- or 9:30. I even had another appointment scheduled with them the Monday before my wedding.
If the deposit was so important to them-- then WHY --did they not ask for the deposit during the more an five hours I had spent there during the two separate pre wedding appointments?
Did they get it then? NO!!!....did they hand me paperwork to fill out while I was there ? NO!! They sent it...two weeks before the wedding. Now less than 10 days before my wedding I have to find another hair dresser--I have never been so OUTRAGED! If you are bride beware. They promise a lot take your pre wedding money and but don’t deliver in the end!!!!!

Re: “Thirsty Ernie's -- CLOSED

Tell me WHY we have the immature tall blonde, Lindsey chasing and screaming at her boyfriend throughout entire bar and out on patio?. Last 2 times Ive been there she is overly spoken on she doesnt know where the "f" he is. Yelling across the bar at the girls on her demands and letting them fully aware SHE IS IN CHARGE TONIGHT. Is she in charge? If thats the case, WOW! You guys need a little help in hiring. Her professionalism needs a crash course. So much back and forth between her and i think his name is Chuck. Its like cat and mouse chase with them two.

I was there last Thursday when I heard the short dark headed bar tender with glasses there let a group of maybe 8 people tell a guy at the door she wasnt able to serve because they were closing....understandably it was bad out and we were leaving. However, she told a handful of girls across the bar know they are not drinking enough to keep the bar open and paying her salary. I was sitting at the bar and overheard and saw this.. The girls were angry and came back in. Dont know what all was said but overheard some when they came back out. Felt bad for the 2 that were working with the bar tender girl as they seemed to wanna correct the concerns. Felt like the bar tender could of handled things better but didn't.

Re: “Fox Bar

The worst gay bar ever! GO ELSEWHERE!!!!! The self proclaimed "owner" decided to lay his hands on my husband, because he ate from the food for the dart tournament! The sad part is we had been there many many times before, but the guy who decided to commit assault against my husband, had food out for the lame dart tournament, when he announced it was for the tournament only, he became rude and laid his hands on my husband. Became rude and disrespectful, cursed and cussed at my husband and we had to leave! HOMOPHOBIC! they are for only the locals, god forbid you are not a "LOCAL". They will let you know and ask you to leave, GAY OR NOT!!!

Re: “Cozy's Cafe

Reheated leftovers with a side of credit card fraud

In the late afternoon, their entire menu (what little of it they actually have on offer) is apparently leftovers from the lunch rush reheated out of the fridge. And if you decide that you don't find this prospect particularly appealing, you see on your bank statement that you were charged over $40 for a couple soft drinks ordered before you discovered the "quality" of the food and decided to pay up and leave. Stay away. Stay far, far away.
