Re: “Streetside: Uber is user-friendly. That doesn't mean Uber respects you

Great Article and Spot on too !!!

Exactly what I been saying all along about that Phony UBER, their Young Arrogrant CEO and his philosophy and piss poor business model and analogy.

Heres a Prime Example of why their S**T don't add up !!

""A retired schoolteacher named Tom Alexander told me recently that he makes more than a thousand dollars a week driving for Uber"".

Now lets examine that $1000.00 dollars a Week

$1000.00 X 4-weeks in a Month = $4,000.00 Dollars a Month.

Take gas / Fuel out of that - and what little insurance - and what little Oil Changes , if that even happens.

Thats better than what some beginning Unions Jobs Pay !

I know Professional Long Haul Truck Drivers that don't even make that , and they have to spend upwards $250 to $300 dollars to possess / obtain the CDL / Commercial Drivers Licenses and in some cases their own DOT Physical.

Yet, these supposed so-called "UBER DRIVERS", supposedly can't afford to get the proper insurance, Permits and other regulatory issues ????

Its a 1 TIME Affair - their NOT having to Buy any of those on a Weekly or Monthly Basis to be able to Drive !!!!

Why shouldn't they have to abide by the Rules & Regulations as any other company that's in Business , as well as the Transportation Business !

That is what UBER does - Transports people from Point A - to - Point B for a Fee / Charge for Money.

That makes them a "Transportation company", no matter how they try to "Spin it", word it, phrase it whatever , they are a Transportation Company !!!!

They should be required to abide by all DOT / Department of Transportation rules & regulations.

They should also be Required to abide by all FMCSA / Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association Rules & Regulations as well, since their hauling people around, just like Buses do, Limo's and Taxi's.

I'm sure not all UBER Drivers make that $1000.00 a week, some probably make less than that depending on how often they want to be available.

I also know many other Private Contractors who own their own Vehicles for other types of Hauling, rather it be People or Freight and guess what - they too have to abide by the rules & regulations set forth on the books, both Federally and State to be in Business !

Welcome to the "REAL WORLD" of being a "Private Contractor for Hire", being in Business for yourself.

Now Imagine if every company / Business out there tried this Game of NOT abiding by any rules & regulations, imagine the mess everything would be in and the Public at Risk from everything - everything from

restaurants

Construction sites,

building codes

Airlines

Rail roads

Trucking

Buses / Motor Coach / School Buses

Utilties

Imagine what Havoc would Wreak if there wasn't some regulation and rules that everybody had to follow and abide by.

I'd like to be able to open a Business too and NOT have to abide by any rules & regulations either or Tax codes, but then that's an Illusion and not very realistic.

I see UBER has also had many other problems in several cities across the country as well, with the same BS their trying to pull.

UBER needs looked into further as to who their supposed Investors are, which I believe from what I've found are a bunch a 'WALL STREET" Nimrods, the very ones we all Despise of just a few years ago, so they've pooled their money together and thought they could Dupe everybody it appears.

Remember UBER "Claims" their a $40 - BILLION Dollar Company ????

UBER over Hyped for what they really are its a False Illusion

"Instead, says Arun Sundararajan, a professor at New York University's Stern School of Business, Uber's "value is based on the bet" that it will soon "become a meaningful substitute for people owning cars."

** "value is based on the bet" ????? Ummm - sound like a bunch of WALL STREET Trickery Asswipes the same ones that brought us the Banking Crisis for those that remember

How about that Bernie Madoff and his Schemes and Bets with Investors , Huh ???

worked out real well didn't it ??????

How about that ENRON out of Houston Texas and that Ken Lay and Jeffery Skilling, and their phony BS and duping investors as well as Employees who lost Millions when they folded and went Bankrupt !! worked out real well didn't it ????

"Thinking of them as a "company that transports people" from one place to another is one part of the story," says Sundararajan, pausing our phone call to get into an arriving Uber vehicle".

"But you wouldn't come up with a "$40 billion valuation" from just that".

"Their investors" are betting on a behavioral change amount where a lot of people are willing to spend more than they do now to get things on demand."

That worldview doesn't come from nowhere. It's borne out of the "company's need to beat back unfriendly regulations" in cities as well as efforts by taxi companies to destabilize it before Uber can become a threat.

Uber is very good at playing this game: "It employs teams of lobbyists" to advocate on its behalf, and this year it - "hired former Obama adviser David Plouffe" - to help plan its next moves.

Others had this to say :

A professional taxi driver also has to have training and adequate insurance. Uber just scoops up whoever.

And Uber is getting to the point that - "they're making their money off their employees", not their customers.

Their drivers are getting 'special' loans from Uber to buy new cars -- that they'll pay off by driving for Uber. In the meantime, Uber's rates are going down so the drivers' income is going down and they have to work longer hours to earn the same amount.

We've seen THIS before. "St. Peter, don't call me 'cause I can't go -- I owe my soul to the company store !!

Re: “Kansas humiliated on The Daily Show again

Jill - it seems to be common practice for Pitch writers to try to discredit anyone who posts a question or critique of their articles. Charles Ferruzza does it frequently through anonymous posts, or worse high-jacking someone else's post name. If that doesn't work, he just asks that the poster's ip address be blocked. The Pitch has a real issue with freedom of speech for anyone but their writers and those who agree with them.

Re: “KFC guy not too worried about the KFC that burned down in Olathe last night

I just hope that if they do reopen the KFC, Chucky Ferruzza does a interior decorating critique of the place. I so love his combo reviews of the food and décor of fine chain establishments in the KC area. Hopefully, he won't realize that Olathe is in Johnson County.

Re: “Bacon & Bourbon's six bartenders share their recipes ahead of the big night

Thanks for the recipes - now I can go to local pig buy some bacon, make a blt and sip a Blanton's single barrel - saving the entrance fee and more importantly - saving me from having to be around dumbash hipsters who think putting bacon on everything is the coolest thing since go go boots. I wonder how many selfies will get posted from this "event".

Re: “Randy Raley has a new home — and weekly show — at KKFI

Hey now, let's not throw Skid under the bus. He has paid his dues and is still doing his job well. I have known Skid since he first came to KC and I have known Randy for countless years also. Being a singer in KC and beyond I tended to stick with musicians and DJ's as my friends and they are still my friends even though I am no longer in the business. If you think you can do a better job then Skid Roadie, be my guest.

Great interview --- I listened to Raley in the 70s , he seemed to have some freedom in what songs he played and I enjoyed his show. Flash forward to present day: I wonder how Skid Roadie can even face himself in the mirror.

Re: “KFC guy not too worried about the KFC that burned down in Olathe last night

KFC got the idea right, but about the wrong restaurant. Fronteras' food is so good, its customers are likely to seek out their other location at 77th and Quivira in Lenexa. I know I would go that extra mile if I lived in Olathe. What wasn't mentioned is how its hard working employees will no longer have jobs. Many of them, who are Hispanic, do not speak English well and will have trouble getting jobs elsewhere. They probably didn't make a lot of money to begin with because while Fronteras' food is some of the best Mexican food in metro Kansas City, its prices are so low that 15-20% of the tickets don't make for very big tips. But the real heartbreak is the loss to its owner who no longer has a business he and his family have worked their entire lives for.

Jill ... sounds like you just sniffed out a Kansas Conspiracy! Why don't you hire Encyclopedia Brown to help you flush it out. I'll spot you the quarter for his fee.

Thanks a lot for the support! People are awesome, and I have yet to give up in this world. I don't mean for people to see me as a beggar, but more as asking for a helping hand.

Much much love to Charles for doing this and to those who have called/shown their support,

Re: “You may not know Amit Raizada's name, but some of KC's wealthy won't soon forget it

@Menstrom That's funny because I was there many years and I don't remember you working there! I'm sure that's not your real name but is that not your picture either?
And as someone who really DID work there...Amit was a great boss. Ask yourself...what would be the motive for the Pitch to go after just this one person the way they did?

Re: “Kansas humiliated on The Daily Show again

Sasnak has some really messed up politics. The tax-dodging, right-wing churches have taken over the government even though they do not pay for any of it. That is a very dangerous situation and exactly what our forefathers that created this free society intended to prevent. Whether you agree or disagree with Sasnak politics, everyone should realize that churches should not be running the capitol.

Surprised that you have not yet found a connection to how this can be blamed on Brownback and the other KS republicans.

Re: “Kansas humiliated on The Daily Show again

David Hudnall, author of this piece of journalism, is commenter Jack (a few down in the stack). He likes to portray conservative individuals in the state of Kansas as ignorant buffoons. However, when confronted with actual rebuttal and, in many cases, the entire other HALF of the story laid out in factual array, he coils up and turns into a petulant teenage writer working for a school newspaper in a small down, which he resents because they were conservative. Jack, the real Jack, is a frequent commenter on this website which usually provides direct, and decisive rebuttal to the extremely slanted editorials that David Hudnall puts up. Why does Dave want to be Jack? Maybe because he wants to discredit Jack as a commenter. I don't know. All I know is that David Hudnall, while revealing his bias, also turns off half of his readers instantly. This can't be good for viewership. And Jack, the good fellow he seems to be, ABSOLUTELY needs to continue rebutting David's attack on conservatism. I just think America will be better for it. Thank you. Have a good day.
