Re: “Kansas City-area school districts get mixed-bag results in latest Missouri proficiency assessments

Parent, you came close to where the major problem lies.

My kids graduated 20 years ago and here's what we were saying back then. It's not the amount spent per pupil. (As previously noted, KC Schools have a large share of kids with learning disabilities, that cost more to educate.) But it's the outrageous number administrators that cost so much. The teachers belong to American Federation of Teachers or National Education Assn., same as the teachers in those high performing districts in Liberty, Park Hill and Lee's Summit. The dollars being wasted are at the administrative level.

I was just gifted a bag of the espresso, and I have to say I'm really impressed. Out of a Gene Cafe no less!

Defund schools use money to build jails & prisons. But no one here can figure this out, because you can't pull you heads outta your asses long enough to broaden your perspective...which is terrible narrow & white washed.

Re: “After a year of revelations about harassment, Missouri Legislature mulls over dress code for interns

I have long thought there was a unneccessary, unfair, harmful discrepency between the Dress Code of men and women in the workplace. And not just in Jeff City. Some of the attire allowed under Dress Codes for women is inappropriate in a work environment. The problem is there is no standard code like there is for men.

Re: “Mission Taco Joint headed to the Crossroads from St. Louis

We fell in love with KC and the Crossroads. You guys are killing it out there and St. Louis is taking notes! First Friday was a blast and the restaurant/beer/cocktail scene is phenomenal. Thanks for the kind words from some. And to others, sorry if a couple off the cuff answers in a quick phone call came off wrong. Not our intention. We just love what we do and we have a lot of passion. Hopefully we'll be seeing you soon!

This is the real dude. I could care less about the Chiefs, particularly this Perez character.

Re: “Kansas City-area school districts get mixed-bag results in latest Missouri proficiency assessments

Enough,

Apparently America only has room for one issue? I can't be outraged by the cowboy cops, and Police State generally; and still be concerned about educational issues?

Pinkylee,

Teacher's unions are a part of the problem. They are not the main problem (which I will give my opinion on below). We spend far too much, per pupil, for the results. Our ROI (return on investment) in the field of education is propped up by the over achievers and gifted students. Unfortunately, these are the most neglected students. The American educational system has forgotten and neglected our most gifted students, in pursuit of equality.

_____

Mostly, I agree with the other posters. The single most important factor to a child's, school's, and district's success is parental involvement. Parents are the single greatest influence on a child's learning.

Can someone advise me on Joe Perez's career as a KC Chief? I can't find anything.

Re: “Kansas City wants to keep a convention center consultant's report buried

Wink,

You asked, "What business owner WANTS to finance his competitor?" None, but I would ask. "What business owner should be COMPELLED BY LAW to finance his competitor?" IMHO I don't think anyone would find that reasonable.

Re: “Kansas City wants to keep a convention center consultant's report buried

Wink,

Good analogy. But at least those are private transactions. The franchisee has the right to terminate their relationship with CarStar, pursuant to the terms of their contract. But the hotels subsidizing the Hyatt are compelled by law to subsidize the Hyatt.

There is no way to opt-out of the Convention and Tourism tax. The full weight of the government compels a business to act against their best interest.

Re: “After a year of revelations about harassment, Missouri Legislature mulls over dress code for interns

Unbelievable. Maybe criminal prosecution of some elected officials would do more to address the problem.

Do the servers still treat the customers with contempt (unless you are personal friends with somebody that works there)
