I was one of those teachers that had the next day off. A great way to spend a bonus weekend.
A good piece, with one significant omission -- the tail end of the REM generation ('79-'81, I'd say,) who were first introduced to the band because of "Get a Life."
I like "Pickin Cotton Blues". Whoever is playing the slide guitar on it totally rules!
Especially nice to see a local ORIGINAL band accomplish something outside of KC. This town has gotten too preoccupied with tribute projects. Just my opinion.
Good to see a KC band garner some national attention!! Congrats.
The fuck did I just read? I feel like I got mind raped.
This is awesome! I knew this guy as a coworker around 2006-2007! It's good to see fellow artists stick it out!

How come nobody hipped me to the "underground sex club"??
"Contributing to the block's overall sleaziness, an underground sex club reportedly operated, until recently, in the alley behind Balanca's."
Really? There was a space that rented was out to different alternative lifestyle groups, but I'm unaware of a "sex club" anywhere in the vicinity. Other than that, I can't disagree with much else you say about Balanca's.
Good luck to Mr. Scott; this town can use a laid back jazz lounge.
Good luck also to Lori; let's hope running a neighborhood bar will be a lot less stressful than running Balanca's.
Is that a Green Velvet and Paul Oakenfold reference?
Mad love from the 317 to the KC Techno peeps.

LOVE this article. The KC Techno crew gets it... and I love these cats. I've been in the KC EDM scene since 1999, a DJ since 2004. I remember some of these parties where black goo was blown from your nose after you finally wake the next day. lol. Awesome article! Much love from myself, Rob Reeves.
Please get your facts right. Elvis did not die eating a Peanut And Banana sandwich.
As I racall Fric & Frac had a series of concerts they even closed the street to do them. were thier any complaints? Nope did the bands play the ame music YUUUUP! Well you losers now can go about living your Plaza wannabe lives the rock is gone. May something far worse like a bong shop or hip hop club take it's place.
Ok lay off the "mind numbing substances" that you (the writter of "Nug Life New Year's Eve) are on! Why you would say it is a terrible name I have no idea what you are thinking of this "clothing company". I find it unprofessional of you as a writer; and if you search The Pitch's past articles for "Nug Life", you will find several article's about Nug Life and it's owner. Further more, google "nug" and you will only find that it is short for "nugget" even in the slang dictionary. So I would like to say that I am 48 years old and I can tell you that the Nug Life New Year's Eve is going to be a great time at the Riot with my favorite bartender "Candice" and my favorite "DJ Clockwerk" and I will be there!
Totally agree, this was definitely one of the most bizarre shows I've ever seen.
Yeah man citing performing with six other KC musicians along with a guy with strong ties and friends in KC as one of your best moments doest not show school spirit. I'm beginning to question his dedication to sparkle motion.
Velghe mentions a gig in he did with A. E. in Austin?? I thought we were talking local gigs?? KC, Lawrence etc.
I remember when the RR used to have good rock bands. Sincerely yours, OLD GUY
Re: “Streetside: The R.E.M. generation gathers for an evening of tribute”
Great show, great to be reminded why I love REM and continue to listen to their albums year after year (and yes, I started listening in 1985, I'm 43 and had Monday off to recover!) Cheers!
