Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

Must be great to be so self serving and deranged that you can mistake a complete disregard for your family, employees, investors and customers for the delusion that you are living a life to be proud of on your deathbed.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

You know I'm just a hac(half-ass-cook) that grew up on the east side of kansas city with no training, never claimed to be a chef just a cook. I'm just cooking crappy Kansas City food I grew up with at a reasonable price. You have definitely out classed me socially, economically and with culture. I salute you. You remind me of Dave Eckard, another story. I do have to get back to the kitchen I'm you-tubing on how to boil water, I keep burning the darn thing.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

P.S. - some of the crappiest food I've eaten has been at celebrity chef's restaurants.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

I may be irrelevant to you but I am not irrelevant to the restauranteurs whom I regularly patronize. I spend about $1,000/month dining out. I have no problem with making reservations, I always do. I love prix fixe menus, in fact I think we need more restaurants that offer prix fixe every day not just on special occasions. Most people value my restaurant recommendations because I've eaten at so many all over the US and the world. I used to own a successful travel agency for 10 years. I got to travel anywhere/anytime first class - for free. Stay in luxury hotels - for free. Drive luxury rental cars - for free. So what did I spend my money on? Good restaurants. In Paris, Rome, Brussels, London, Munich, Strasbourg, Lima, Rio, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipai, Bangkok, New York, LA, Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, etc, etc. You name it, I've been there and eaten at the best. (And the not so good either - you can't know good if you dont know so so or bad). Again, I say, stop bitching and get in the kitchen!

Yelp is completely irrelevant.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

Pete, you need to spend more time perfecting your food than ranting on the pitch website. I've eaten at great restaurants all over the world and your food is just so so. quit bitching at all the bitchers and spend more time in your kitchen with the goal of making the best food IN THE WORLD.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

Three types of people in the world
The great people that talk about ideas.
The average person that talks about places.
The below average person that talks about other people.
Yelp knows there a buck to be made off giving people their fifteen mins of fame, hence the elite squad. That's why when you see a new place open and it's hit by the elite squad the place payed errr "sponsored" a yelp party right before the doors opened. And the 5 stars flow. Until the average joe comes in.
Yelp knows people like to talk because they have idle brains, it's easier to talk about someone then to do something proactive. So they let a business supply the product (or just use their name). The goods really being sold are "the 15 mins of fame thoughts". Yelpers for free give up their most precious thing, their thoughts and yelp sells them for advertisement. Do I have love for yelp no, at least with the music business the artist started to get reimbursed because their product they created was being used to generate revenue via advertisement. Now ask yourself are you a goat that is easily led by the below average person?
This is my third restaurant, I'll fail, so what. At least when I'm on my death bed and I look back, I'll visualizing myself giving the bird to all the people that didn't have the balls to live their dream. "Life is all a dream, but to live your dreams now that is life". So why would you guys care so much to talk about me here?
Don't like my place stay way, do you have a dog in this fight? did you invest? Have you ever eaten my food? Have you ever worked with me? If it pisses you off that you have to make a reservation, thank the crappy franchises that invaded KC awhile back. They made you wait outside for an hour to eat some crappy pasta and KC fell in love with it. Last night I turned away two tables that walked in and a bad time. They seen open tables and refused to wait at the bar until the service and kitchen could deal with them. ( I hope they enjoyed their meal else where.) I'll find out where they went because they will yelp about it.
Remember, my definition of failure my not be like yours just like my definition of happiness is. I got some ideas I have to think about now while I do my own thing. Go enjoy some BBQ.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

People, if you like this place better hurry and go. I made a reservation for a Friday night and was one of only 4 tables all night. The food was BLAND! They had one chance to impress and I'd rather have spent my money at Port Fonda or La Bodega. Sorry Pete.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

I would fly across the country for a great meal. Sadly, I don't think I can try this place. Read the Yelp reviews before Feruzza's article, and Peterman's responses to his customers say it all. I wouldn't give him my money if I were starving. In fact, I'm not sure I could comfortably trust his food. Too bad. It did sound very good. People read those reviews, buddy! Maybe you can just cook for your family.

Vegetarians suck. Real American's eat red meat, vote GOP, and die of heart disease.

I agree with Dillo-from my experience, breakfast outshines the other entrees. And-consistency (as with the guac/avocado accompaniment) MUST be---consistent---to survive.

Re: “Poco's on the Boulevard braces for life after its cable close-up

I still think that the market niche best served by Poco's is the breakfast/lunch crowd. There are better Mexican restaurants all over the city with better dinner entrees and tter prices, but especially for an early breakfast Poco's can't be beat.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

um, nice try expat. people in this town do care about food and they care about their local chefs. foodies are an easy target. maybe yr accusation would make a tiny bit of sense if nearly every person who has worked with this guy didn't avoid anything he touches like the plague. if foodies are easily swayed sheep how about the dozens of local chefs who wont go near him? dznt matter how good your food is when you change your list of rules for customers twice each week and treat people like crap. but thx for playing.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

The comments to this review are a perfect example of how sheep thrive on groupthink. Congrats, "foodie" wannabes of KC, for proving how easily swayed you are. That you would judge a restaurant by the owner's impassioned response to a destructive, half-assed dismissal shows it's not the food you care about, but how you desperately seek approval from a girl with too much time on her hands. Such pettiness prevents KC from getting the respect it could have.
Charles, thank you for the insightful review.

Re: “Marv's Original Delicatessen reaches for authenticity in Leawood

Charles, it seems crazy to criticize a deli for not having vegetarian options. Do you go to Strouds expecting low-fat, vegan, gluten free options? Of course not! Likewise you go to a deli for a big-ass pastrami sandwich and some cole slaw. Well, at least thats why I go to a deli.

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

Called a couple of different times last week to ask about a reservation and menu. No answer. Looked at the website to see what they were serving since it's a set menu and rez is required. It told me to go to Facebook for that week's selection. Facebook page has nothing on it at all. Sorry but there's way too much good food in this town to eat someplace where you have to cater to the chef for the privilege to spend your money. What successful business owner acts that way?

Re: “With Peanches, Pete Peterman may finally have found perfection

What a tragic turn of events.

If the Peanches owner had just left well enough alone, the only potential customers he was likely to lose would have been those who took "I'm leaving because I don't like the style of this place" as serious restaurant advice. Just imagine the idea of Anthony Bourdain turning his nose up at Oklahoma Joe's because it was located in a gas station...

And while I can sort of understand an emotional reaction to the tweet, he did infinitely more damage to himself by actually replying on Twitter. His response will likely cost him people that might have otherwise dismissed the original Tweet as an ignorant way to judge a restaurant. Attacking someone (especially with profanity) is a surefire way to galvanize support behind that person's words, even from people who might not have agreed with the words to begin with.

Unfortunately, the Twitter faux pas came AFTER this glowing review. It would be a shame if the success of this restaurant came down to an ill-advised Twitter flaming.
