Re: “Cucina della Ragazza squeezes a lot of flavor into a tiny Westport storefront

This was a sweet review that captures the atmosphere beautifully, but seriously? You found the fettuccine with shrimp was disappointing? Must have been an anomaly because THAT is my favorite dish on the dinner menu (we can talk Saturday brunch another time, where the Italian sausage gravy over eggs and a melee of potatoes is out of this world). What I love about the fettuccine is that it is not your typical, creamy rich mix, but a light butter/wine sauce with those yummy capers and a wonderful flavor. And SHRIMP is a total understatement as clearly these are PRAWNS! We'll have to agree to disagree on that (and the crostini too)!

Re: “White Horse Pub proves that there's nothing bland about British cuisine

If they show premier league games in the morning, with an English breakfast and pots of good tea...well, I'll have a new weekend hangout.

Re: “White Horse Pub proves that there's nothing bland about British cuisine

A group of us neighbors spent New Year's @ White Horse food was very good, Rum Chata's were plentiful, owner was a nice pleasant man, very approachable, nice change from the ordinary chains in our area, we will return!!

Re: “Rosso finds a brilliant new color for Italian

We stayed at the hotel after a Christmas party, everything was excellent. Enjoyed a great breakfast in the restaurant the next morning. I would recommend the hotel and restaurant to all.

Re: “Rosso finds a brilliant new color for Italian

We went to lunch on Saturday with my young sons and they enjoyed the view and seeing the rooftop pool! The veggie risotto is to die for and thought it was very sublime. Icing on the cake was valet was validated...next time it will be a date spot at night and the boys can stay home with a sitter!

Re: “Rosso finds a brilliant new color for Italian

I and everyone I know that has dined here have had terrible experiences with service, food, and now, apparently, even billing with charges appearing on their credit cards over a month after they dined there. Surprised the reviewer's experience was so different...perhaps they knew he was coming.

Cool place, good food, good service and the hotel has to be the nicest in the city too.

Re: “Rosso finds a brilliant new color for Italian

i've been there three times - once for dinner, once for lunch and once for drinks. Each time was great and i'd recommend it for sure, if not just to check out the rooftop view and have a couple of drinks. Can't wait to enjoy it when the weather gets nice.

Bunch of my neighbors have been here, said it was awful with "el garbagio" service. That means garbage in Italian...I think. Great article as always Charlie, you had me dying laughing the "entire" time, surprised you've only won 14 James Beard awards.

Re: “Taco Republic brings street-food chic closer to Main Street USA

Be sure to ask a waitress if you can try one of their upside down tacos....they're amazing!

Re: “Taco Republic brings street-food chic closer to Main Street USA

I agree with everyone's sentiment that why would you go there with so many other outstanding options for legit tacos, but let them be. There is a significant population that will never venture down to KCK or Independence Avenue for a taco. If they want to pay a surcharge for a street taco, that is their own doing. I have taken being that live south of 435 to San Antonio and have them literally freak out that they were going to die or get food poisoning. You would complain if those places got saturated with JOCOs wanting an urban experience.

Carl, we will have to agree to disagree on the matter of "noteworthy" and tacos.

Re: “White Horse Pub proves that there's nothing bland about British cuisine

All you geography buffs should cut Charles some slack. After visiting WHP this afternoon, I can certainly understand why people might mistake it for Gladstone - there's a huge water-tower right off the roadway.

We both wanted to try the Bangers & Mash as well as the Shepherd's Pie, so we got one of each and shared. Both were quite excellent. I've always had/made Shepherd's Pie with ground beef, but the ground lamb version is really tasty. Had almost an Indian-style spicing to it. And the bangers were the best I've had.

We shared one of the Sticky Toffee Puddings for dessert - good thing, since we still couldn't finish it. You definitely get your money's worth and won't leave hungry.

Kudos to Charles for pointing us to another great eatery. Julie's been wanting a good Brit place forever, and it's nice to finally have one even if it is on the outskirts of BFE.

Re: “The year in restaurant shakeups

Yes, Pete did close Peanches, last dinner was Dec 28. I was there and the menu was brilliant, as were the wine pairings. We'll miss you Pete.

Re: “White Horse Pub proves that there's nothing bland about British cuisine

Definitely worth a try. We went there last night. The owner was making the rounds to each table, chatting with the patrons.

Fish & chips were what you would expect. Burgers were smaller compared to what you'd get at an American chain, but maybe that's how they do it across the pond. The homemade ketchup and tartar sauce were a pleasant surprise.

Price-wise -- not cheap, but not expensive, either. I'd much rather spend my money at a local pub than a chain. We'll be back. Would make a great location for party.

Re: “Taco Republic brings street-food chic closer to Main Street USA

I ate there shortly after it opened, but enough time for them to get the kinks worked out, or so I thought. The salsa had absolutely NO seasoning, tasted like they just opened a can of tomatoes and put them in the blender. The guacamole wasn't any better, absolutely no taste or seasoning. For 3 bucks a taco, I was disappointed with the amount of filling in them. The atmosphere was great, and I really liked their truck in Westport, but this place was a major disappointment. I haven't been back.
