makes a reservation and shows up way early and walks out then calls and cancels. Then tweets to her 500 or so groupies that "she judges a restaurant by it's cover and says she walked in and just walked out of Peanches because it didn't meet her standards" because she Judges a place on location and atmosphere. Well good for her Jessi have some class instead of trying to play the big shot to all your groupies since you are the self proclaimed "Google Queen" just go eat some BBQ and get over yourself.

This review would have made me go, Charles. But his attitude on Twitter the past day or so shows me that he's an ass. I can overlook passionate curmudgeons, but telling someone to f-off, publicly? That is a little over the edge for me. Good luck to him!
Well, went Sat night. Way-Outstanding chicken liver parfait w/home made pickles and outstanding chocolate molten cake & lemon cheesecake, very good lamb but not outstanding. I'm a huge fan but have always had his Prix Fixe fare before when every morsel was more fantastic with each bite. Sat night I found the lamb with pureed parsnips and polenta very good but I've had better. Maybe stick with the prix fixe? Don't know, we'll be back but after Sat night, Michael Smith and Jonathan Justus don't need to be looking over their shoulders---yet.
That's the best picture of his food you can show? Makes me want to go to my refrigerator and get out the fixings for a real grilled cheese. Sounds like a typical Charles F pimp job on another pretension KC cook who opened his own restuarant because he couldn't keep a job working for anyone else. Whooeee, do a write up in 6 months after he closes and Zeeman will do his best Wayne Newton impersonation.
Oh, give him a break-he's just REALLY serious about what he's doing. Probably he should lighten up, but if you dine in his place, you'll be able to taste where he puts all his love.
No way that a policy of harassing anyone who says anything slightly negative and putting crazy restrictions on the crowds who arent flocking there can fail a 3rd time.
I've been waiting for him to get off the ground and going and work the kinks out, it sounds like I must make some reservations! It's been awhile since his restaurants closed and I still have lingering thoughts of how delightful his dinners were. He is in my opinion in the top three in KC.

The kitchen has to be consistent, as for the service, we all want good service but you won't find the best servers in a place with a $30 average ticket. I've been twice and all in all they were good experiences.
@KC Law---yeah that would be good if they could lose the HS aged staff ----but rest assured they wont charge the Katz prices. My girlfriend and i ate at Katz's last May while on a visit to NY and the price of two pastrami sandwiches, an order of fries, and two draft beers ? 62.50 !!
A real Kosher Deli would be a Godsend to this town. I used to go to the NY Bakery and Deli once a week back in the day. Having been raised in NY and spoiled with the real deal, I look forward to giving Marv's a shot. Instead of HS kids though, it's too bad they cannot get the grumpy old guys like they have at Katz's or the like, who bring your order and fish cans of cream soda out of their side pockets and set on the table.
I agree with some of the readers. I've only been here once for lunch on a weekend. My sandwich was very good and the other people I dined with enjoyed theirs as well. The service was pretty bad though.
Marv's is a deli. And from what I've seen they're doing a pretty good job!
Nice decor. Large menu - all of the classics and then some. They have 37 sandwich choices for Pete's sake!
Crispy potato pancakes. Good corned beef. Tasty pastrami. Thoughtful accoutrements. No complaints about the onion rolls or the rye. Fine portion sizes. Reasonably priced.
What else do you want? I don't even know what 'contemporary' deli options are!
I know that Marv's hasn't been around since WWII but it seems that they're on the right track to stick around for awhile. I'll be back. And so will my friends.
I've been there twice. Overall I had a good experience...good enough to at least keep trying and hoping they iron out the kinks. I experienced the same inconsistency as the author...same meal both times, but notably different in quantity and final assembly. The servers, while extremely friendly, were just not experienced enough to keep up with the restaurant. I remain hopeful, because there is great potential here.
You call these BAGELS? Dough balls with a hole in the middle is more like it. Meat overcooked included the entire contents of a small salt mine. Gloppy brown gravy covered something undefined. Soup a salt thin attempt at something ....even canned versions less salty and more flavorful. This is a total disappointment and a must MISS.
I went to Marvs expecting to be dissapointed. I knew there was no way it could match up to a New York Jewish-style deli. However, I left quite surprised. It's still far from a Carnegie or Katz's, but for KC, its a start. Both times I've been there, it hasn't been busy. The pickles they serve are tiny... Like 1/4 per person (Rascal House in Miami would have vats on each table for customers.). Flavors are good, my ruben was good and toasted, but the bottom piece of bread got very soggy very quickly. Mish mash soup was very good, complete with big chunks of chicken. Def worth a try-make tje decision yourself if you love it or not. Or like me- like it until something more authentic comes along.
sorry yours was not grilled enough....but i must tell you our Reuben is on the grill the whole time during the cooking process just like any other Rueben ever made. I do apologize yours was not grilled enough. there is only one way to make a Reuben and that is on the flat top as ours 100% is!!!
