THANK YOU!!!!!!!
This was such an amazing show to put together. The breadth of Thomson's music we honed down over months from hours and hours of music that helped shape the Modern Art movement, to roughly a ninety minute show.
The classical performers there were awesome,. It was their performance that gave credence to this composer's music. And having THAT as context, adding performers from completely different genres was the real kicker. To see them work and arrange these pieces, ultra classical and obscure, turning them into performances that were entertaining, beautiful, funny, raucous was what made Virgil's work universal and agued the strength of his composition as timeless.
Thank you so very much for recognizing us. The production staff, the performers KCPT and the staff at The Kauffman Center worked to their limits to make that show happen.

Homecoming: An Evening with Virgil T
We sure think so! It's always great to have Brodie around The Coterie!
He is brilliant, isn't he?
The actions of Redemptorist represent the church not one "conservative blogger." Also the church's position whereas not by any means is all-inclusive calls for dignity and respect. However, it has a long way to go. One complainer doesn't mean Catholics didn't like it. Most of them couldn't have cared less. Not to mention you forgot to mention all the women involved. What a silly way to sensationalize a non-event. This type of public discourse is what will continue the controversy.

Kudos to The Pitch for noticing the artistic value and social import of this performance, which did, indeed, pack the pews!
I do have to question, however, if the staffers dubbing it "Best Taking of the High Road" actually attended the moving and high-caliber performance of a choral masterwork, or if they are just going on having skimmed some of the press the performance received. Surely if they had been in attendance, they would have noticed that among the ranks of the singers were as many women as men, members of sister organization, the Kansas City Women's Chorus.
HMC and KCWC, who share an artistic director, are both ensembles that are welcoming to gay and gay-friendly choral performers in Kansas City. BOTH were invited to take part in the fundraiser concert as a joint performance. Both groups understood the social justice implications of such a performance, deeply. Both choruses are filled with singers, be they gay, bi, or straight, who strongly support the idea that a person's sexual orientation does not in any way dictate his or her worth as a person.
Those of us who performed this concert with these ensembles (including members of Grace United Methodist Church in Olathe, who joined the combined chorus and also hosted an encore performance of the Requiem on Good Friday) were proud to not only "take the high road," we were thrilled for the opportunity to perform a beautiful and challenging piece of music, and benefit the continuation of such music in KC by contributing to the organ's restoration fund at Redemptorist.
Such a shame that you chose to recognize only a portion of the performers who were beyond proud to stand in solidarity at a very moving, very important, very beautiful concert.
Yea Drew! I knew you from way back when!
Show has been extended (once again!!) to First Friday Nov. 4th. Stop by 5p-10p @ 1819 Central KCMO. 1819central.com
It was a wonderful show, full of color and nostalgia. Danny (and I'm not just saying this as a friend) deserves all the praise he's received and through his hard work and ridiculous creativity will see many more successes throughout his career. For those who haven't had a chance to experience Quietly Contributing, do yourself a favor and check it out before it closes. And if you see Danny, tell him "The Grinder" sent you.
Thank you Pitch!!! We couldn't be more honored!!!
Don't Miss our next show! The Creative Team of White Nose Christmas is teaming up to bring you Brindsay Kardilton's BUMP: From Nose Powder to Baby Powder. It drops this November at the Fishtank Performance Studio!
