Re: “Sam Brownback's crusade against the Kansas Arts Commission

Thanks for a great article. However, please note that, according to the KAC website, the June 16 meeting at LAC has been cancelled and will be rescheduled in Topeka after July 1 (see website): http://arts.ks.gov/docs/introd...

Re: “Sam Brownback's crusade against the Kansas Arts Commission

Ours is a market economy. People vote with their dollars. If something is worthwhile, they will spend money on it. Government supplementation of programs keeps lots of things around that 'we the people' don't really want or need (otherwise we'd be supporting them sufficiently). How else would so-called "artists" get to fling piss or shit at a portrait of Virgin Mary and call it "art"? Or how would this bunch of crap ever exist? http://bertc.com/weird/index.h....

Re: “Sam Brownback's crusade against the Kansas Arts Commission

Carol Hoopes' comment is telling, though jaded and way overstated. I'm a supporter of the Arts. Even served on a board for the Arts. Government monetary support for 'the Arts' has been justified for all Carol's reasons and more (though I think "freedom" as a reason is just plain nutty). But the fact is, they don't hold true. Even with government-funded Arts, mothers and the tax payers cry "why are my kids on the streets, getting pregnant, and doing drugs." The answer is: You're a shitty parent because you expect and rely on SOCIETY to raise your kid and teach him or her morals.

Look, we can't have everything we want. We have to prioritize the allocation of our resources. A market economy is the absolute best way to do that. Quit playing the victim when your favorite isn't funded BY SOMEONE ELSE. If you truly believe in the Arts, quit your whining, get up off your fat ass and DO something to promote them.

You forget Ft Riley and Manhattan are nearby. There are over 100K in that "Metro Area" and with the Bio Lab comming it will be one of the fastest growing area in the country.

Yes, please get out KC every once in a while.

Cut the arts, education, child protective services, but hey DON'T cut the taxes going to the roads or gas companies, they got him elected in the first place

I hardly believe a city with a population just under 21,000 is the booming metropolis you make it out to be.

Re: “Sam Brownback's crusade against the Kansas Arts Commission

Brownback will never be president.. I hope the good people of Kansa impeach him... he is not thinking clearly... really a ridiculous excuse for a governor... this makes no fiscal sense and has not redeeming quality... just like sam...

Re: “Sam Brownback's crusade against the Kansas Arts Commission

Did this article just refer to Junction City as one of the rural communities affected by the funding cut? Junction City? One of the fastest growing cities in the state? One of the top 10 largest (I assume) cities in the state? Rural? C'mon Pitch. Leave the metro area once in a while.

Re: “Big Scoob digs deeper on Damn Fool

Nice to see Scoob get some shine, but anyone who relegates Tech N9ne to the more outlandish aspects of his persona and chooses to do so twice in an article about a completely different rapper (albeit one on Tech's label) shouldn't be writing about rap music in Kansas City.
