Re: “Mudstop Mondays is Barnyard's Pool Room party now

The Barnyard Brewery is growing fast and catching the eyes of people. They have some of the best drink specials in town with no door cover on Monday nights and sometimes even good food. Keep your eyes peeled for Blue Collar Bar B Que a pint of Barnyards finest brews some good looking Barnyard Servers and some of the best damn music in the Mid West.

Re: “Mudstop Mondays is Barnyard's Pool Room party now

Barnyard is rapidly establishing itself as an indispensable member of the acoustic music community. They need our support! Keeping alive the tradition of American folk music by providing a venue for budding musicians is extremely important…and it’s also just a great place to grab a brew (the Porter is my favorite!)

Re: “Mudstop Mondays is Barnyard's Pool Room party now

We really hope to see new faces stop in to see us! This bar offers something that most bars don't. Don't expect to come in and just be another customer. As the Mudstomp Monday bartender, we welcome you with open arms. Stories and laughter are always share. You truly become family to us. We're close knit and always enjoy getting to really know each person who walks in the door. Look out for our awesome whiskey specials too!..after all, we love our brown juice in these parts.

It is indeed not downtown, it is behind the Merc. Please forgive the error. Beers for everyone!

Looks like you need to fix your headline.

Don't look for Ninth & Iowa in downtown Lawrence. It's nearly three miles west of downtown.

Re: “Sam Baker brings his hidden talent to the Folly

I saw this show Saturday night.
The house lights were up during the entire performance and people were often seen with tears in their eyes by the end of a song, yet laughing over his witty engagement with the audience between sets.

It was the most brilliant and intense performance I've ever seen, and it came from a single man with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica.

Re: “Sam Baker brings his hidden talent to the Folly

I was at that show back in June of 2010.

I went to see Jim White, another one of my favorite singer/songwriters, and Sam's set wound up being a sweet bonus.

After all Sam's been through, its amazing how well he performs.

He explained how messed up his hearing and his vision was after the bombing, and went in to detail about the German kid that was riding next to him (who died in the carnage) on the train.

Then he had them bring up the house lights so he could see the audience. Thats the second time I've ever been present when a performer asked for the room to be lit up insted of dimly lit.
Quite a differnt feeling.

Sam is a perfect fit for The Folly, so folks, do yourselves a favor and catch Sam's show.

Re: “Band of brothers Radkey marches out of St. Joseph

This article and its take remind me of the grunge days. MTV came through Lawrence and when asked about the music scene replied, "It sucks". That assessment is so detrimental to any community. It also pisses off all the people busting their asses. Rethink your words.

Re: “Mike Doughty's Soul Coughing demons still haunt him

I just stumbled on this article -- typically, for me, four months late -- and I have mixed feelings about it. You can take Doughty at his word, or you can side with De Gli Antoni and Ella Button (above) and say Mike's a psychopath and call his addiction story a ruse. The fact is, if you weren't there you can't know the story or who's telling the truth.

I love Doughty's solo work (although "Yes and Also Yes" was a bit disappointing) and love Soul Coughing. I'd like to see Mike perform live, but not as much as I did when he still played SC songs.

What really amazes me, though, is that there has never been another band with anything like the sound of Soul Coughing. SC put out three albums on which nearly every single track is practically a masterpiece of sonic genius. It's really a shame they broke up, but only because apparently ONLY this particular dysunctional combo could ever make these incredible sounds.

Re: “John Fullbright: Bound for glory

Downloaded songs of his off the internet in like 07 and loved it. Then saw him a couple years later in Eureka Springs and couldn't believe how young he was. Show was awesome and glad he's in KC. Be well worth it.

Re: “Band of brothers Radkey marches out of St. Joseph

There has been a great music scene in St Joe as long as I can remember! If anything it has gotten better! How about we actually go and look for some venues and shows before we totally rip on a great town.

Re: “Band of brothers Radkey marches out of St. Joseph

I am slightly offended, about the downtown being dead comment... They are working hard trying to bring it back! My younger sister has a vintage store, at 718 Francis, called The Lucky Tiger, they have everything from clothes to vinyl records, you should've checked that out before you wrote this article... They are planning to have a local band section to sell cd's, as well as, other things. They have had bands play acoustics, as well. He boyfriend also does stand up comedy and here is a podcast where The Pitch is mentioned, granted it takes 1 hour and 12 minutes to get there but you get the gist!!!!

Re: “Band of brothers Radkey marches out of St. Joseph

St. Joe music scene isn't dead by any means. It's just the same people rotating the same bars, dividing the same crowds, and it's all big boy bands. There's little room for females or solo artists in this scene that's for sure. I've performed up and down music row but can't get a gig in my hometown unless I play for free....and I'm not doing it. That ruins it for everyone.
