In response to Ms. Garcia-Muzquiz's self-congratulatory rant to "Ask a Mexican", a column I personally find offensive, as if we here in America have an obligation to educate ourselves on Mexican culture...On second thought, to ALL who have written in on the issue of illegal aliens (not "immigration" as some may call it) -WHY should we feel grateful to those who overrun our borders ILLEGALLY, stay here ILLEGALLY, bare children on our soil ILLEGALLY, then expect we should simply turn a blind eye to it and begin shelling out public assistance? We have a problem here in America, it's called corrupt government. We, The People, have been asking for a solution to this HUGE issue which impacts ALL American citizens from our local, state, and federal governments for many years, and nothing has been done. On the contrary, our government's answer to the issue has been to allow it to persist, unabated, to the point now where people like Ms. Garcia-Muzquiz believe illegal aliens should be entitled to a gift from the American people -in the form of automatic citizenship- for breaking the law! I, for one, say "no" to this invasion, the reasons for which have been discussed here and elsewhere at length. Somewhere in that discussion, much of our citizens' concerns are lost, drowned out by those who would call us racist for protecting our borders and national interests. Just because we share a border doesn't give the Mexican people the right to demand anything from our country unless they are willing to go through what other people do to obtain citizenship. We don't owe you anything, and contrary to current popular belief, this country wasn't built by Mexicans. Stop acting like you're owed anything from America. Come into this country LEGALLY, jump through the hoops and gain your citizenship LEGALLY. NO amnesty, NO automatic citizenship, especially for people who came and remain here ILLEGALLY.

I met Heidi not too long before this article came out.
According to her, Woody Harrelson isn't just a former 'client'; he's also a disgruntled ex-business partner in a West Hollywood oxygen bar. Or maybe she's the disgruntled one. As it seems most, if not all, of her former business and/or personal contacts are.
Heidi said Carolyn was a friend. It seems now she expected free positive publicity instead of a journalist endeavor and now she's roiling in sour nuts.
I came up with the brand name 'F' (as attested to in an email exchange with Heidi). When asked her to consider compensating me for my idea, Heidi freaked & flaked out, making irrational accusations like the ones she levels against your reporter.
Heidi's letter suggests that Taran never "physically worked on anything" - except, as the article notes, being the very one who provided her with a space and funding as well as being an active host.
Hosts/Hostesses/Financiers/Investors: Beware. Apparently Heidi doesn't think you count for anything (other than working for free for distribution of cashew 'cheese,' which has existed for at least as long as the Cuisinart has been in existence).
Frankly, the world of raw veganism is filled with freaky flakes (for example, http://www.gothamist.com/2005/....
Does KC need vegan restaurants?
Undoubtedly.
Should Heidi be the poster girl for that effort?
No way.

Yes, it is me, the Kline Consumer Chief that Morrison belly shot on television to the rumored tune of about $200,000 last October. That was after the Pitch made me a cause celeb in May, 2003. (How will I ever repay you?)
I know that I have fans and enemies reading your Revolutionary Rag that want more of Ole Brownie....now they can read me 24 x 7 on the Web at bjbrownsblog.blogspot

The best Hip-Hop/R&B radio show has been in Kansas City for almost a year now and they, I believe, have started a new revolution in both genres. It is called the Vice Versa Show and it comes on early monday mornings from 2am - 5am on 90.1 fm KKFI. The hosts are Louisiana Slim and Sexy Black. This is a show that you should tune in to and more people should pay attention to. It bridges the gap between the older generation and the newer ones. These guys are very knowledgeable and their songs really make you think of the past and present alike. Check them out....you won't be sorry!!! I can guarantee that their show WILL make your "Best Of" list.
Take care.

Dear Editor,
There is support, in many religious traditions, for the view that we
should be kind
to animals. For instance, Jesus was quoted as saying, "Whatsoever ye do unto
the least of these, my brethren, ye do it also unto me." Please

Legal Defense Fund's
petition to Congress for an Animal Bill of Rights.

You guys should do a story about the Kansas City Reggae band Az-One. Az-One is by far one of the best groups in Kansas City. I have been a big fan of Az-One for a while now, and I really enjoy when they play Reggae night every Thrusday down at the Levee (43rd and Main). Their stage presents and high energy shows is a rare form of local talent that everybody should know. Az-One also has longetivity. Run by Elisha Israel, Az-One have been performing regulary in Kansas City since 1987. Az-One gets great respects form the local music scene because they have been in the front of Kansas City's reggae scene since it's hayday in the 80's to large feativals and clubs today. I really enjoy reggae music and if more people know about how strong bands like Az-One are then Kansas City's music scene will grow stronger in popularitary and acceptance. Thank you!

Ben Paynter did a great job of capturing my sons story and I thank him and The Pitch for taking a look at the life of an Iraq war vet. I think Alexis went into the Army hoping he might make a difference. Maybe telling his story is one way to do that.
I grew up on stories of disabled WW II-era vets fighting for decent medical treatment from the VA and I have two uncles now in their eighties, still fighting the VA battle. The military/medical system is stretched beyond its limitsand its under serious investigation, after Washington Post reporting on Walter Reed Hospital. I wonder if real change will be possible.
I wish my son had never listened to the military recruiters who came to his high school talking about training thats relevant in civilian life, life-long health and education benefits, and experience that would help him be all he could be. Im trying not to wonder whether, if Id been a better mom, he wouldn't have touched drugs, would have tried computer graphics or Americorps instead of the Army? It doesnt help to know that thousands of other parents ask themselves the same questions.
Heres the recipe: combine imperfect people and imperfect institutions and the yield will be seriously imperfect. Every day, injured soldiers return from Iraq to suffer more than they should. Like Alexis, many of them saw the Army as a path to independence. So far, the closest my son has come to his goal is a little town, in Missouri Bens research didnt provide easy answers and I knew there was no reason to hope that it would. But, the futures a story thats not written yet. Maybe theres still time to work on it.

In regards to; "For all those white, racist, gabacho readers: Mexicans come here for a better life! Isn't that your so-called American dream?"
This society works hard for the so-called "american dream", I don't mind others coming here and trying to make a better life for themselves and families, but do it the same way we do. I work hard for what I earn, and I pay for my so-called american dream, taxes, medical insurance, car insurance, rent I PAY; DO YOU?.I am sick of hearing how racist white people are. We are no different than you, we are looking out for our land and our way of life (I might add a clean way of life), the freedom that our ancestors fought for and keep on fighting to protect. We have to make a living too, things aren't just handed to all of us, so don't come over here with your racist accusations, as if you aren't racist yourselves. I never had a problem with this, but the more crying I hear from you, the more it makes me sick. From the pilgrams, to slavery, to womems rights, we earned all of it; you can't come here and excpect to just get what you want; earn it and work to get what you think you deserve.
