Re: “Letters From the Week of August 14

So Im adamant about these dress codes around the city but this one is extremely stupid. Let me start by saying when I go out I tell the guys dress appropriately to get in the bars; Of course I get all these looks as if it's my fault the Kansas city bars are targeting a culture!!!!!!!!! Too move along we head out to Paddy O' Quigley's in leawood - no dress code. We then proceeded to Tom Fooleries - no dress code. We double back to Brooksider - STOP DRESS CODE!! Before we headed to the front door I said ok tuck in your shirts because I was aware that they require that if you have on any kind of T-shirt. (of course no Whit-T's) So we walk up to the door and the bouncer says take your shirt out of your shorts/pants; of course we are looking at each other like wow we dont have to tuck in out shirts anymore. But WAIT he then proceeds to say you T-shirt is too long and we cant let you in if you hold your hands/arms down to your side and the shirt is longer than hands/arms. I flipped out and of course I had to let the bouncers know that it wasnt them I was pissed at it was the stupid dress code. We made an effort to abide by the rules of the dress code only to get stabbed with another attempt to keep out the black man. Thats right I said it! What other reason other than to target minorities would there be to say even though you have your shirt tucked in you pants its still to long to get in this bar. Come on with it people I'm ready to rebuttal anything you have to say about what I'm saying right now. As for those who never been black, never wear what we wear, think before you speak on this. And another thing dont use lame excuses like if you dont like the dress code dont go - thats the punk way of getting around the real issue. Have a good day.

Re: “Clearance From the Tower

The Pitch is a second rate paper.
And Miss Nadia needs to get outta town.
She wrote an article about Rick West,
calling him a "HORNDOG" and saying
he mistreats women.
What she wrote and things she said in that
article are bold face lies..that is
why she won, because she lied.
She lied about me, and a friend of mine who
was then the bass player for Rick.
I have known Rick West too many years
and have never seen him mistreat a woman.
EVER.
She won because of the outlandish lies
she put in that article.
Perhaps other men could take some advice
from Rick as to how to treat a woman.
I agree with another reader.........
you suck.
Nadia won because she wrote a damaging
story about a man no one really knows.
Trust me, she lied to get her award...
we should NEVER trust the media!!
Everyone wants to read filth and dirt
and she really turned things around in her
favor as she wrote her winning article.
I was there when she danced with Rick and
he NEVER once placed his hand in an inappropriate
place. If she felt something, then she had the
hots for him!!
Grandfatherly??? You are sick.
Nadia, shame on you for lying and winning
any type of award for that article.
It will catch up with you one day.
Gods knows the truth.

Re: “Letters From the Week of July 24

When I used to enter your FREE STUFF contests I would get a confirmation e-mail that my entry had been submitted. I used to win passes, etc. fairly regularly. Now when I try to enterm a contest, I don't receive a confirmation e-mail, I can reenter to win over and over and it just takes me back to the "sign me up to win" page again and again. I haven't won anything for months and want to know if there is something wrong with your website's contest page or what. This was a major source of trying out new things for me and hate to not have these contests to motivate me to get out more.

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: “Letters

This is an update to my own article about dress codes. I have notice over the last several weeks that many of the bars around the Kansas City area have changed their dress codes to accommodate those people that the dress code was meant to keep out. Now let me tell you I am for dress codes if your pants are hanging off your butt; you dont need to be on the streets like that. I applaud the change in these dress codes but I am saddened that it took the Power & Light Dist swallowing up business from the smaller bars to get them to change. Back to the white-T's; if I came down there in t-shirt that had kill me I a Muslim on it or a pic of the biggest drug dealer in history or a pic of the president with a gun to his head and Ben Laden holing it; why is it ok to have that when that would offend more people than a plain white-T. Why is it that I have to defend the rights of people not just black but every race just so I can sit down and have a beer? I hope P&L thrives but I also hope that all the surrounding bars north, south, east and west get their business back as well and not worry about long shorts and white shirts with nothing on them.

Re: Review of Vino Wine Bistro - "Happily, Trezo Vino is the perfect restaraunt for pretentious foodie types as well as this less constipated counterpart. There's foie fras as well as a K.C. Strip..."
Foie fras is a swollen, diseased liver taken from a tortured goose or duck that has lived its entire life with a metal tube shoved down it throat to allow force feeding. Did the detailed menu item descriptions you mentioned include any of this?

Do you give positive attention while one is being good? According to Doctor Fitzhough Dodson some learned the only way to receive attention was through inappropriate behavior. As long as one was good one may have been ignored. Some who ignored others when they were good may have felt compelled to give instant focused attention for inappropriate behavior. Misbehavior was therefore attention. The behavior received attention from some in the environment and allied forces producing further teasing for social recognition. While wasting productive time other needs failed to be met causing the need to feed off productive forces. Changing who one became depends upon the process. In the past some thought dictated undesirable actions would stop unwanted actions. Authoritarians did not know punishment, which is a behavior recognizer, fools by temporarily suppressing behavior while at the same time giving social and self recognition causing the behavior to repeat. Recognizing the difference between the behavior and the individual do give the individual attention. Doctor Dodson suggests easily gently distracting offering attention in a new direction redirecting the individual to fun learning activities that let the individual know they are valuable and people care their time is spent valuably, that meet needs, and that lead to productive behavior while applying Extinction Technique by giving zero attention to behaviors one does not wish to be repeated. Recognized productive behavior becomes repeated productive behavior. Generative productive personalities develop. Children's productive behavior is the right to have their educational needs met and be actively engaged in the educational process. Scientific studies by recorded observation of behavior under precise behavior recognition conditions produced the results: Recognized behavior repeats, or to quote the results, "Recognized behavior is repeated behavior." Re: “Letters for the Week of May 22

I agree with Bill of NYC. The kids have it right, and are open to those around them, regardless if the person, is gay, lesbian or even another race. Our kids are living in the 21st century and will overcome, compared to most adults who are racist against color and who a person really is with-in. The SM-East student obviously is the perfect friend to have. We (my family)have a gay friend, and have been friends for the past 15 years, since ever meeting him. He has been a big influence about what true friends are, and i feel being a woman he has helped through things, that none of my friends at work could ever help me through. He is very open and helpful with the rest of my family, helping and understanding more than anyone else ever could.

Re: “Letters for the week of April 24

Dear Editor:

Since customers were cutting back on the use of electricity by getting energy saving light bulbs, etc., the electric companies were losing money. Consequently, they invented multipliers, which are a mathematical concept used to take advantage of the customer. These multipliers are used at the option of electric companies, so when customers aren't using enough to produce the desired profit margin, they simply raise the multipliers, and get their money. The multipliers are so high now even people who use almost no electricity are saddled with a huge bill. Even worse, the pubic utilities' commissions have been no help whatsoever.

We might point out in Fascist nations utilities are provided at cost or given freely, as they're PUBLIC.The United Fascist Union proposes electric companies'monopolies be broken, and public companies be created that would charge the public for the electric they actually use; instead of letting some fat-belly private profiteers' live the high life at the public's expense. The U. F. U.would revamp the system and make sure the Public Service Commissions of various Provinces work in public interest instead of working crooked deals with Executives of monopolies allowing them to exploit consumers.

Vote Fascist 2008!

The smoking ban states as follows..."Ordinance No. 080073
Shall the City of Kansas City prohibit smoking in enclosed places of employment, enclosed public places and on public sidewalks abutting acute care hospitals, while allowing it in casino gaming areas until all casinos located in the Missouri counties of Jackson, Platte and Clay, and the Kansas counties of Johnson and Wyandotte are obligated by ordinance, statute or law to prohibit smoking within the casino areas where gambling games are allowed, as set forth in Ordinance No. 080073, for the purpose of promoting public health by decreasing citizen's exposure to secondhand smoke and creating smoke free environments for workers and citizens through regulation in the work place and all public places?"

My question is: Once an entertainment venue starts charging a cover to get in the door, hasn't that establishment gone "private?" No one can walk in off the street without paying, so it isn't anymore open to the public. So therefore can they not allow smoking customers to light up once the fee to enter begins? As far as that goes, can't places like strip clubs allow smoking, since they are a private facility? In both cases...minors are not allowed into places that charge a cover. So there is no harm in second hand smoke to minors.

Re: “Glass Houses

I have fond memories of working at Hen House at 95th & Blue Ridge from 1985 till Ball's and Price Chopper took over the stores in 1989. It saddens me how little Buck's legacy in the grocery business is carried on by Price Chopper especially when the HenHouse.com website mentions nothing about Buck. You are meant to think that the Ball family founded the company and not a down to earth honest man like Buck Hinson. Buck gave me my start while I was still in high school and God bless him for what he did for all of his employees over the years.
