So KCKSD doesn't have enough money for full school days all week or even a full week half the time, but they do have money to buy ludicrously overpriced Apple laptops and to build a huge new admin building? Next thing you know, we'll be just like KCMO.
Oh boy, another bumper sticker politician. The sad thing about GOP candidates this year, is they are very strong on rhetoric, but when you ask them to discuss specific things they would cut, they wont say anything. Many of them refuse to be interviewed by anyone who isnt part of their "approved" list as was discovered by Mr. Martin. They all claim that the "lame-stream media" is merely out to smear them. The fact of the matter is this, these folks support some crazy ideas and when asked to articulate those crazy views, they say they are being smeared or misrepresented. Their legions of devoted acolytes march in lock step without if even questioning the legitimacy of the claims of media hypocrisy. This is due to the noise machine and absurd amounts of money being able to seemingly flush many of these problems right away until after election day. It seems very mafia like except for one thing. Instead of a well dressed guy in a suit with a Jersey accent, it's Mr. Jones, the real estate agent from down the street. He's high on Glenn Beck with a lead pipe in his right hand and a penchant for the irrational. Now, he's telling you that your liberal smear campaign isn't welcome here while slapping the pipe against his left hand a-la Rand Paul campaign. Never thought it would be so hard to ask allegedly rational people, rational questions about their irrational positions. They have successfully reduced politics down to Democrat equals satan worshipping homo-loving cult, and GOP equals "real America". Yoder is trouble, he has the makings of the next Michelle Bachman...
@rankno: this IS kansas, so its very likely that no, we can not come up with a better qualified person......

The last thing we need is another phoney dishonest politician. We have enough already. Surely the good people of Kansas could come up with a better qualified person to run.

At a Town Hall meeting the other night i told the Mayor I ws upset with spending like many Amercians however I realize we need to spend.
Kansas City no longer issus Bids they now call it a resquest for service
They no longer ask 9f it is the low bid but whether is meets MWE and MBE guidlies as well as prevaling wage and now a GREEN project
The bottom line is we spend a minimum of 35 per cent more on a project than anormal citizen would.
We have no elected a CBlack Presidnet. The daysof slavery are over. Yes there is still a need in the minority community hopwever a large percentage of MWE and MBE firms are fronts for white owned companies. We need minority boots on the ground not some percentage of dollars spent
Are we doing good for the eaast side when we spend 35 per centmore to line the pockets for a few or would we be better off taking the lowest bid. How many more curbs and gutters can we supply
We take PIAC dollars and spend the indistrict funds equaly between council districts. Can you with a straight face tell me the needs are the same on Ward Pkwy as they are at 38th and Troost?
The Mator understands this but he can do nothing with this current council. We will have the oppurnity to elect a council that will work for the good of the city in Feb. We need a new council not a new Mayor. If you will work with me to try to change this call or email me. Working together we can get something done

I attend several meetings about this money. It was not stated that each council district would received four million but there was four million collectively to spend between the six council district. I helped a lady in the 3rd district submit a second request for the same problem from 5 years ago. The problem was to correct a problem created by trucks that used the alley way behind the house to access powerlines. She has been trying to get the city to do something about this because it causes water problems in the alley way during rain, and snow which can cause water to freeze. It is shameless how city hall operates. I guess the ones not returning have decided they have ethics and no longer want to deal with the city hall cesse pool.

Parents were invited to meetings to discuss potential cutbacks due to budget issues... from less bus service and furlough days for employees all the way to eliminating music and sport programs. All of this while the building of the new facility was in progress. Many parents asked why money was being spent on a new facility vs. moving into existing space somewhere else or other less expensive options. The poor excuse for an answer... we had to go somewhere...

I also live in the 5th district, in the same area as Mr Jenkins. I feel his pain. Kansas City finances are a mess caused by poor decisions by city leadership(previous and current). Poorly written bonds,TIF's, the list goes on and on. Money spent and wasted. Billions will now have to be spent to upgrade our sewer/storm water drainage to be compliance with Federal requirements. Which will briong hardship to many in Kansas City on their water bills. Should have been dealt with years ago and surely would have cost much much less. Well, I for one cannot wait for November. Do not be surprised Mr Mayor and crew when the people of Kansas City vote to begin the ending of the earnings tax, the public safety tax and any other tax. I will continue to do so until this city's government becomes fiscally responsible.

This isn't the first time politics have come before the people. The Sprint Center, the Stadiums, and the poorly written bonds for the Power and Light District represent nearly a billion dollars in politics placed before the people. Politicians continue to think that they know how to spend our money bettter than we do. Even when faced with record deficits. In a city whose infrastructure is crumbling and 100's of homes ar boarded up, we choose idiots like Funkhouser to lead us. He himself brags about how he has stabilized the financial status of Kansas City. Watch out for sink holes and gushing water mains while driving around town.

Sounds like alot of crying about nothing. The city made an offer and Marth took it and now has regrets. Whose fault is that. The mayor and the aldermen were elected officials and the same people who are crying now helped elect them. If you don't like the job they are doing, elect a new mayor. Sounds like it is time for new city leaders if the people are so upset but don't accept the city's offer to buy you out and later complain.

Seriously? Did you forget that the police department takes all the money from the drug busts, sale of drug deal related property that is supposed to go to the schools....and then charge them to run the DARE program? I'm thinking if we lose the cops we have now, no great loss. I know of several cops living in Maple Park Estates, Briarcliff and Claymont....how do you suppose they afford that?
