Re: “Best New Classic

LOVE the atmosphere! The bar/restaurant has a great vibe for business lunches AND after work/evening cocktails. I've only had a few things from the menu, but found the choices unique and well executed. I just love the design of it all, so comfortable but cosmopolitan in a chic "throw back" decor reminiscent of the late 60's or early 70's.

I've had the pleasure of staying in the hotel as a guest one night and LOVED it. All the staff I encountered seemed very friendly and welcome, and it had a very comfortable "make-yourself-at-home" feeling, more than I would have expected from a boutique hotel. My top pick for a weekend 'stay-cation'!

Re: “Best Desserts

I have had the personal pleasure of enjoying a few of the Fig Tree desserts....and will embarrassingly admit that I would replace ANY meal with any one of them! I didn't consider myself a big dessert fan until I tried their bread pudding and a couple of other things that I don't even remember what they called - but I do remember the chocolate & peanut butter and chocolate & nutella. OMG. DEC-A-DENT!

They serve dishes that are made with fresh and LOCAL ingredients and believe in what they do - so refreshing for KC! I'm jealous of those who live close by, so much better than the cookie-cutter franchises that dominate the suburbs!

And to "This is B.S."....you clearly have no idea about this place and your comment is obviously ignorant and juvenile.

Re: “Best Kid-Friendly Dining

So very true. Live nearby and have taken our not-quite-two-year-old son there several times for breakfast. The servers are always welcoming, amazing, and very (VERY) fast with orange slices, extra napkins, pancakes, etc. We probably leave more of a mess than others, but we always leave more tip for it and for their super kindness.

Re: “Best Desserts

Fig Tree has some of the best desserts and they don't give you tiny servings either. Great choice!

Re: “Best Steak

The last steak I had at Plaza III was sub-par at best. I can count many more places around town that has a better one by far.

Re: “Best Steak

The best steak in Kansas City is wet-aged? The Plaza III deosn't touch Pierpont's or the Majestic.

Re: “Best Ambitous Waiter

David Hayden is obviously passionate about his profession. He, not only blogs and writes books, but is on the advisory board of the Culinary Wine Institute, an organization that provides practical wine info to restaurant servers. He is dedicated to helping servers maximize their income potential! Thanks, David. ~Kirsten Fox, CEO, Culinary Wine Institute
