Re: “BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT

I would have to agree with the above comment. How can a restaurant that can't even cook Samosas (a traditional staple in all of over India) be the best Indian restaurant in Kansas City?

Many other restaurants have tons more options on the menu like Ruchi's, Swagat, and Taj Palace.

I'm not a huge fan of the other options in the KC area but those three above would be what I'd say should have been the nominees. Makes me wonder what the criteria even is for the award...

Re: “Best Ice Cream

Best Ice Cream by far is Glace.

Best Ice Cream shop (soda fountain) is Clinton's Soda Shop on the Independence Courthouse Square. It's been there forever, and is in fact where Harry Truman got his first job!

Re: “Best Bakery

I used to eat here quite often when I had a North of the River territory when I worked in sales for Lanier. Their best pastry is the ham and cheese croissant. Their pastries are featured at The Roasterie cafe in Brookside, as well.

Re: “Best Mexican Bakery

The tamales here are off the chain! I grew up in Cuernavaca, Mexico, so I know good tamales. Elvira's has the best tamales I've had outside of Mexico, anywhere in the US. They have red salsa tamales (pork), tomatillo salsa tamales (chicken), "rajas con queso" (jalapeno slices with cheese) tamales, and strawberry (usually considered the "kids menu" tamale in Mexico).

Re: “Best Taste of Europe

You gotta add Cafe des Amis to this category at some point.

Re: “Best Taco

I've never been to Port Fonda, but I've heard it has fantastic Mexican food. Didn't it get it's start as a food truck? My favorite tacos are from a little Mexican dive called Taco Express on Independence Ave.

Re: “Best Steakhouse

I just ate at The Majestic for the first time last week, and I had what I believe was the best steak I've eaten in Kansas City. I work for Cerner, and I took a client there during the Cerner Health Conference that was held at Bartle Hall, just a few blocks south of The Majestic. It was absolutely outstanding!

Re: “Best Ribs

Great choice. However, my favorite ribs are at Smokey's BBQ in Wellsville.

No question. Great choice!

Re: “Best Place for a Romantic Dinner

I would add Cafe des Amis in Parkville. We love that place, and have dined there for several anniversary dinners over the last 10 years since we moved to KC.

Re: “Best Place That's Worth the Wait

At the 43rd and Belinder (gas station) location, especially.

Re: “Best Pizza

I also like the Pizza Co., on Woods Chapel Rd. in Lee's Summit. Great artisan pizzas!

Re: “Best Outdoor Dining

I'm going to have to try it! My wife and I love outdoor dining. I just dined outdoors at Aixois last week. First time to dine outdoors there, and it was delightful!

Re: “Best Latin-American Restaurant

I do LOVE La Bodega, though. My wife and I go there a couple times a year for date nights. We're actually due.

Re: “Best Latin-American Restaurant

Of course they do speak Spanish there. I can see where it might be confusing...

Too funny!

Re: “Best Latin-American Restaurant

Except La Bodega is not Latin American. LOL It's Spanish...you know, Spain? In Europe? LOLOLOL

Re: “Best Italian Restaurant

Great choices for top 3. Should probably consider Cafe Verona in downtown Independence for next year, though. It's excellent!
