Re: “Prospect's restaurants work to restore the avenue's legacy, one good meal at a time

Great piece, Charles! I'll definitely be visiting these places the next time I'm in town.

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

I'm another one of those local businesses that was hurt by Mr. Bosch. When he was working with iCafe LLC, he violated Apple's rules to compete with my business. He nearly cost the MacXprts network their authorization and put hundreds of people out of jobs just to get a quick buck.

My business lost dozens of clients and thousands of dollars. He was unethical, unprofessional and untrustworthy. He caused deep and permanent scars with some groups, including BNI. MacXprts never fully recovered from the damage he did.

I think he assumed after he left town for a few years, people would forget about his business practices. I appreciate the detailed and well-researched reporting on this story. Many of us were under NDAs and couldn't talk about this in detail--and still can't. Sometimes we need someone from outside our community to report the facts.

Interesting. 75th St. Brewery is bound to brew a drinkable beer at some point so I'll have to check this one out.

"Oh and I'm sure it was all Mike's idea to name Dawn Fiber after YOUR beloved sister, may she rest in peace. Get over yourselves and take a little bit of ownership in your own business failings...hows that for an opinion?!"

LOL Jess Ray this makes no sense at all. What are you trying to get at? If you need any clarification feel free to email me... zmann7@gmail.com

Re: “Broadway Butcher Shop helps me assemble my first charcuterie plate

I really love these guys at Broadway Butcher Shop and they tend to get overshadowed by the Local Pig on the local foodie scene.

Jess Ray,

I spent quite a bit of time fact checking this piece. If you have specifics about something that's wrong, why not just say what it is?

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

Wow...this is a straight up wicked witch hunt (every pun intended) and wicked is not the one being hunted. I don't know either way on the dealings of Montgomery or Bosch's past personal or business ventures but this article and the comments sound like a big old pile of opinionated crap. I did just a tiny bit of searching and found many of the items mentioned in the article to be a twist on the truth or flat out wrong. Oh and I'm sure it was all Mike's idea to name Dawn Fiber after YOUR beloved sister, may she rest in peace. Get over yourselves and take a little bit of ownership in your own business failings...hows that for an opinion?!

I'm disappointed in Steve for even writing this article and even more disappointed in the pitch for publishing it without fact checking it (opinion piece or not). I sure hope that nobody ever judges any of you for your past as harshly as your judging Bosch. Lord knows I have made many mistakes in my entrepreneurial career and it has made me a better, more prepared & reliable business person in the long run.

I go by the CURRENT facts at hand and still think RG Fiber is the best bet for Lawrence. Bosch may or may not have made these accused mistakes in the past but Montgomery supposedly hasn't which tells me that he hasn't worked hard enough to make those mistakes yet. Key word there is YET, in case you missed it. I don't want Lawrence to be subject to his naïve ways of thinking Lawrence should secure a loan but hold the phone kids he'll be able to raise the millions needed to actually make this project a reality. WHAT-EVERRR (in my best valley girl voice). He's had 9 years (per this article) to get this thing going and his only claim to fame is servicing a few business and greek houses all while ripping the city of Lawrence off. No Thank You, I'll take the gamble with Bosch who isn't asking us for anything because enough people with the money believe in him to finally get us the gigabit internet we all so desperately want & need. I hope this article just fuels Mike to prove all you haters wrong :).

Anyone who has spent any time in Lawrence knows that Joshua Montgomery is...not to be trusted.

Re: “Charles Johnson, 'most hated man on the Internet,' a former Kauffman Foundation intern

This guy was a dumbass for posting wrong pic but as far as the name and personal info, he's doing nothing different the New York Times. Wasn't that long ago that the NYT printed Darren Wilson's (ferguson cop) address in the paper. If the big boy journalists no longer display any ethics its no surprise that the small fries would follow suit.

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

Mike Bosch reminds me of the Monorail guy from the Simpsons. A slick talker, and BS specialist who doesn't build anything and leaves wreckage behind. Maybe he will bring fiber to Ogdenville and North Haverbrook after he finishes with Baldwin and Lawrence.

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

In case the readers are wondering where the name "Dawn Fiber" came from, since it wasn't mentioned in the article, my sister Kendra "Dawn" O'Brien passed away on April 5th of 2012. We came up with the name Dawn Fiber in honor of her.

I wish Steve could have touched on that side of the story a bit more, but happy to now have nothing to do with Bosch.

Good article Steve.

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

Sounds like both Bosch and Montgomery are professional bullshitters. The difference? Bosch isn't asking the city of Lawrence for a dime. Montgomery can't get $300,000, but will have no problem getting $30 million? Really Josh? I mean seriously, the good people of Lawrence deserve so much better than either of these two.

Re: “Two ultra-small startups duel to sell ultrafast broadband to Lawrence

He was brought in as a business consultant for UNI Computers in Lawrence,KS by the current owner. The UNI owner easily drank his Snake Oil and was always trying to get UNI employees to read books he suggested or tried to be like him. Then Bosch ran some idea passed UNI that was about helping Government Construction aided companies. Getting these companies IT help in their offices. After completing a number of these jobs directed to UNI by Bosch money went to his pocket but not to the UNI owner. The owner of UNI is very weak minded and has issues taking control of situations himself. His retired father steps in to handle things the owner is scared to do. Bosch scammed UNI and the ownership took it on the chin instead of taking him to the table. Bosch is a Pro bullshitter..Glad to see this article.

Steve, I should have been more specific. I commend him for outing her name and I agree he was an idiot for not doing diligent work and posting a picture of the wrong person (not that any picture should have been posted). If you indeed did a story on the Rolling Stone and said those things then we are in complete agreement, I must have missed the story.
