Re: “Downtown convention hotel figures to be a money loser for Kansas City Public Schools, others

I Dunno' who this "Springsted" is,,, but their numbers are wayyy Skewed Big Time !

analysis by Springsted shows the HOTEL, will employ 550 people, supported by a $20 million payroll. Divided equally, that works out to a $36,363 average wage, or close to $17.50 an hour. The Missouri Department of Economic Development lists Jackson County's average wage at $50,052, or $24.06 an hour.
[Update: Roxsen Koch, an attorney "representing the hotel development team", says the "development team's" numbers contemplate "400 full-time equivalent positions", which works out to "$48,571 per job", which includes taxes and benefits.

Now I've been around long enough to know, that I Highly Doubt there will be 400 Full-Time Jobs at that Hotel that are gonna pay $48,571 per job per year, come on' !!!

Maybe 25 at best maybe will make that, if Lucky.

Those in upper Management and the Hotels Engineering Department who look after the Heating & A/C plumbing maybe, BUT NOT for the rest of those employees down the ladder !

More "HYPE" and Blowing Smoke up those "Naïve" enough to believe those Illusionary numbers !

and remembers just exactly where that "HYPE" and Figures come from : Roxsen Koch attorney "representing the hotel development team", heavy on the Representing !!!

NOW lets all back up to those that Blow this kind of Smoke - can we ALL Say MISSION MALL and SPRINT CENTER ???

That's their Job is to present Fantasy Illusionary numbers to sell their Project at all costs, so, over-inflate the figure to "Ewww' and Awww" the Naive Public and Clueless city officials, as usual !!!!

Re: “Is groundhog edible?

My dad went deer hunting once when I was 6 and he and his party returned with wild berries and a groundhog. My dad's sister cooked it and we all sampled it. I remember it as being stringy and it reminded me of beef.

Re: “The Rolling Stones showed Kansas City how to rock last night at Arrowhead

Somewhere in KC a grade school is missing their folding chairs because they were used as floor seating. And they were zip tied to each other so you had no room to move,it made for a horrible experience. The promoter is an A$$HOLE.

Re: “Downtown convention hotel figures to be a money loser for Kansas City Public Schools, others

Every few years we fund more hotels in hopes of garnering a couple of extra conventions a year. The city council is told that the reason we lose conventions is because of a lack of hotel rooms because that is what convention planners say before selecting Vegas, Phoenix, or Miami. We can build infinite convention hotels, downtown entertainment districts, and streetcars to try to attract conventions, but we still won't steal that business from Vegas, Phoenix, or Miami. Not enough hotel rooms is the "It's not you, it's me" of convention planner rejection. They are just politely saying, "We chose Las Vegas because you are Kansas City and they are Las Vegas." How many more hundreds of millions of dollars need to be spent before we accept that?

Elected representatives and the public can both be bribed or threatened into compliance, but when the promises of endless debt-based swag for all fade, it's the people who bear the consequences, not the politicos.

Re: “Downtown convention hotel figures to be a money loser for Kansas City Public Schools, others

If it is such a great investment why do they have their hands out for taxpayer funding? It's not that I'm against development, but I don't see why taxpayers should have to pay for a private hotel. Also, the financial predictions they are making -- if you read the details, their calculations are based on twice as many tourists coming to KC after the hotel is built. Really, building a Convention hotel is going to attract twice as many tourists to all of KC, when we already have hotels downtown, Crown Center and on the Plaza at half occupancy?? And convention prices are already very low because of the glut of cities building convention centers and hotels. This was the same song and dance when they were selling us Power & Light. We were promised great profits, that it would pay for itself and then some. Fast forward to today, it is still operating at a $19 million dollar loss...that is $272 million over the length of the bond of taxpayer money. We could be spending that on schools, police officers, or filling in all our dang potholes.

Re: “Downtown convention hotel figures to be a money loser for Kansas City Public Schools, others

Remember - infrastructure brings schools, schools do not bring infrastructure. If you do not have a vibrant downtown generating tax revenue, you will never have a decent school system. Do the math - 4.7 million over 30 years is a paltry 157K per year. The tax revenue from use taxes will far exceed that every year.

The courts are only run by activist judges when they hand down decisions Brownback and ilk disagree with.

And remember people- these financial reports are always calculated with the rosiest of financial lenses to turn a dog into a beauty queen. Remember how the Power and Light District was supposed to pay for itself according to their rosy calculations? We all know how that turned out.

Dave:
"The overall cost of the project, originally pegged at $300 million, is now listed at nearly $311 million in the latest report."
