Re: “Can the tiny-house movement grow big in Kansas City?

Tiny houses are great if you're in a moderate climate- experiencing a Missouri winter from inside a cabin would be maddening. Some place where one spends an amount of time interacting with the outdoors, great idea. ...also, if you want to buy groceries, invent Facebook, poor people.

Re: “29-year-old man shot to death at Express Mart with a history of violence (updated)

My brother did far good than he has been displayed as. You would have to understand " DeWright" for the good he put into other people's lives when he could touch someone and change their way of thinking and seeing things he brought the best out of them. He was not perfect but he loved others without judgment. My brother would bring homeless people home clean them up and feed them and every man he spoke with now calls him brother. I'm blessed he is and will forever be mine.

Re: “Westport Millennial Weekend is happening this weekend in…Westport

so I hope there were plenty of boomer moms there to change their diapers, tell them they were beautiful, wonderful and smart, and then pay their bar tabs in an effort to be their friends and get their pictures liked on facebook.

Re: “Time Bandits, Mad Max: Fury Road and Iris: three great movies to anchor your weekend

I so wanted to see the new Mad Max ...but really - it has a feminism theme via Charlize Theron? really?? She's about as much a feminist as her sniveling, moronic, wife beating husband sean penn.

Re: “The Truth Behind Bodies Revealed: It's Not That Educational

I am not really sure how this is not an educational or instructional exhibit. It clearly shows the minute details of mulitple body system that are not limited to the cardiovasular system, respiratory system, nervous system, and reproductive system. The intricate preservation for these human remains is incredible and a difficult task to do. If you don't have the capacity to learn something from this exhibit, you lack the capacity for many other things in life. This is an incredible experience for anyone who has ever had any curiosity about the human body, which is everyone by nature.

Re: “Prominent Missouri Republicans have a knack for self-immolating; John Diehl is the latest example [UPDATE: Diehl resigns]

"Diehl hates the idea of gay marriage, but apparently won't respect his own." The best line in the article and should have been a subtitle or in the lead -- well done Jason Hancock for this story.

Re: “Beck gave a sold-out Starlight audience something to party about last night (country legend Willie Nelson was there, too)

I was completely suprised by all the joints and pipes being passed down the rows. Pipes even came back with notes attached, saying, "please refill for Willie". It was just like the good old days! My only regret is not taking more to share.

Re: “When it comes to steering its economy into the toilet, Kansas is in a league of its own

I don't live in Kansas any longer...I just read about the economy and hear my family speak of the fear they feel of the loss of quality public schools and public services. It appears from the "outside" that Mr. Brownback wished to be a presidential candidate and risked the fiscal health of Kansas by believing that he could be an economic hero. I don't see his name among the current Republicans pursuing presidential candidacy. His track record gives him not the title of hero, but rather of buffoon... His political aspirations are likely dead...he is a victim too, now abandoned by the Koch brothers. He should have just kept his Senate seat in Washington. The history books will not be kind (unless censored of course).

Re: “Some local updates regarding tiny houses

That was a great comment about Prairie Village. Considering all the houses there are "tiny" and go for way too much money, I'd say don't build one there. It will cost way more in PV than in most other places.

I like to come in for bird seed, peanuts, sunflower seeds. Reminds me of my Grandma's grocery store in the middle of Kansas with its wooden floors. It's an antique.

Re: “Billy Ocean's Alien Lanes, or WTF is going on in "Loverboy"?

I absolutely love this video as a kid. But I also never understood what it had to do with the actual song. I thought it was just about a man who rescued in his sweetheart from an evil guy. So I guess if you look at it, too, the lyrics do play with the visuals, if you examine them closing, but then again, at the time the song was released George Lucas has released a final chapter of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and that was his huge back then. So yeah it make sense and plus Dark Crystal was a huge thing as were puppet based movies and special effects. They were are really big in the 80's like CGI is today. so the video does make sense. you just have to been growing up during that time as I was. I was about 14 or 15 at the time.

Re: “Beck gave a sold-out Starlight audience something to party about last night (country legend Willie Nelson was there, too)

What a show! With Willie performing in the daylight and people still shuffling around it made him feel like an opening act instead of a co-headliner, and honestly not many artists could pull off a shared twin billing with what Beck delivered. It was beautiful to see them duet, but sad to see Willie reading the words to an old standard and faltering slightly, especially on hearing ohe news of B B King that day. Time indeed passes on and I'm so glad I was there.

Re: “What's the most racist city in Missouri?

Fedup takes a simple minded approach to a complicated problem. Education does provide a gateway to self improvement, but when the poor consistently are provided substandard educational opportunities, it's almost impossible to get ahead, break down barriers or have hope. Fed up, I'm saddened that for your travels, you haven't seen anything. As a higher education professional I see everyday how the poor are impeded. I hope you learn to think more broadly and realize that your comments are indeed racist.
