If they've got NARC, XENOPHOBE or RAMPAGE, there's going to be some major joystick action.

There is no food sales requirement in Kansas City for Sunday licenses anymore. The ordinances were changed last year.

Re: “Lawrence's Ladybird rewrites the rules for a great diner — starting with the pie

I have had almost everything on the menu by now (I work across the street) and I have yet to be disappointed. Everything is DELICIOUS and served with a smile. The pie is AMAZING. #wewantpie

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

I don't think they have salt in the kitchen of any Stroud's location.

Re: “At the American, Michael Corvino perfectly balances ambition and formality

The American is a KC treasure. My Dad came to visit from NY. He has eaten in every 4 star restaurant in NY and in his opinion, the American could stand up to most of them.

Re: “At Fud, Heidi Van Pelt-Belle offers vegan fun

PS, they still only accept cash (and checks). I respect that, slow as it may be (screw bank fees). Servers do come to the table . . . ours was OK . . . smiley but a little slappy with the silverware . . . is not having ice in the water a thing? Sure we were a big party, but she forgot someone's order (they were written down) and never apologized or communicated with one of the chefs/ expediters who said that meal would be comped (so that didn't happen).
We did not expect everyone's meal to come out at the same time from that tiny kitchen, so the coordination was impressive. Also, we tried to call ahead to alert of "large party coming" (12), but all we got several times was voice mail announcing their being closed for INDEPENDENCE DAY : ) On Nov. 5, 3014. Yes, I'd go back. Even though the menu is too huge now and you have to get saturated with kitchen smells. Great beverage menu. I really don't know how Heidi gets so much variety out of that TINY kitchen. Amazing. Love that I can get FÜD sandwiches at Nature's Own, too.

Re: “At the American, Michael Corvino perfectly balances ambition and formality

Chef Corvino has created some of my favorite dishes this year, and has inspired another favorite...be sure to order The Corvino when dining at Novel. You will not be disappointed. It is luxury. Pure luxury.

Re: “At the American, Michael Corvino perfectly balances ambition and formality

I went for a wedding and the onion bisque was literally one of the best things I've ever ingested. The rest of the meal was exquisite, and I cannot wait for my next meal there. Now if they can only hire Bluestem's designer....

Re: “At the American, Michael Corvino perfectly balances ambition and formality

It is a great place to eat.
I love the Review.
You cover all the bases.
I am saving my pennies for my next visit.
Plattner created the lofty interior of The American to evoke and celebrate the spatial dimensions of Windsor Cathedral.
A Cathedral dedicated to the lesser, needy and more corporeal Gods of Gastronomy.
Remember Helen Mirren in 'The cook, the wife, the thief, the lover' ?
The delights of The American are certainly are of a more genteel culinary persuasion; less lust, sweat and breathy drama but every bit as saliently memorable as that delicious black comedy.
The only false note on my last visit was the uniform grime on the light bulbs above. They need to be wiped clean of dust and fingerprints.
I looked up from the bar and the bulbs twinkled faintly with what looked like the remnants of a CSI crime Scene.

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

Any fried chicken is mediocre at best, with mashed potatoes and cooked to death green beans, and you have to PAY for it? No thanks.

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

I've been to Strouds more times than I can count. Then I went to college at Pittsburg State. Sorry but Strouds can't touch chicken in SEK. Bartos, Mary's, and Annie's all have better chicken than Strouds and it's not even close. It has ruined me for Strouds. Now I get chicken fried steak when I go because the chicken can't compare. I do remember the Food Channel saying Mary's fried chicken was the best they've ever had.

You need to take a road trip to outside Emporia, KS and try the chicken at Olpe Chicken House.

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

Stroud's chicken is almost as overrated in KC as Gates BBQ.
Add some damn seasoning please.

Re: “Stroud's pans for new customers in southern OP

Just curious which Southeast Kansas Chicken restaurant you dined at & then compared to Banquet Chicken TV dinners? Chicken Annie's, Chicken Mary's, Pickler's Chicken Annie's Barto's Idle Hour, Girard Chicken Annie's or Gebhardt's Chicken? When you are served at any of the restaurants listed above you can be sure the owners are in the kitchen cooking your food from the highest quality food available from scratch/homemade. In a world of pink slime high school student staffed fast food restaurants & chain restaurants, these longtime successful family owned restaurants that have been passed down from generation to generation would be insulted by your comments & so called Banquet TV dinner comparison review. How can you compare SEK famous fried chicken to Stroud's since they serve different fried chicken, different sides & their is a huge price difference between Stroud's & SEK fried chicken. Don't forget the locally baked bread they all serve which is baked daily from the Frontenac Bakery, the homemade onion rings & their famous German Potato salad & German Coleslaw. I remember when all the SEK chicken restaurants pan fried their chicken but most people don't want to wait 45 minutes for their chicken to be fried & all went to the same method of cooking their fried chicken & it tastes the same due to how the chicken is prepared before cooking. It's safe to assume you have insulted SEK chicken restaurant owners & their customers by comparing their fried chicken to the frozen mass produced Banquet chicken TV dinners. These restaurants have thrived for several generations, packed restaurants especially on the weekend from locals & out of state customers along with the owner of the KC restaurant you compared it to along with other locally owned KC restaurant owners that drive to SEK to dine on SEK fried chicken. I know several of them & they would not be happy with your Banquet Chicken TV dinner comment since they also love the SEK fried chicken. A real reporter would have done their homework before printing a review & you would have discovered how may longtime successful KC restaurant owners eat SEK fried chicken, past & present Presidents, Governors, Famous TV & Movie Stars, FOOD NETWORK personalities, chef's & exec's & other famous people that sit at the table next to the locals. How many restaurants open & close each month but 1 SEK fried chicken restaurant just celebrated their 60th anniversary a couple months ago. Picking up SEK fried chicken tonight since Monday night is the only night they make their homemade from scratch chicken & noodles for $7.00 a quart (or dine in for a huge plate for $7.00 with creamy buttery mashed potatoes) & a 5 piece wishbone or breast dinner with German Potato salad & German Coleslaw for $10.50. Stroud's serves excellent Pan Fried Chicken & Mike Donegan is a wonderful man & local KC business owner & we have talked about SEK fried chicken many times & how good it is. Another KC long time successful business owner travels to SEK to eat fried chicken & he owns a longtime famous KC BBQ restaurant & I know neither men would ever compare SEK fried chicken to Banquet Chicken TV dinner.
