I live and work in the neighborhood. Glad to call Columbus Park my home. Dan has an excellent gallery and 3rd Friday's here are a lot of fun. Come join the fun!
I work in NKC , and once in a while i will take a drive through Columbus Park. Its a really unique area.
Keep going Mr. Lyles.
He was doing a great job. That sucks.
These people do amazing work. Several of them are art teachers or professors themselves but they also welcome beginners. Nice story and congrats to this group on one year of weekly outdoor painting sessions across the city.
F her and all the bleeding heart a holes who dislike guns. I dislike Abortion, but it's the law and so you can kill a million babies a year and I don't march saying you don't NEED to have sex anymore since some people are using abortion as a means of birth control.
The 2nd amendment guarantees the right of American citizens to keep and bear arms to protect themselves .... from anyone, inclulding their own government. It doesn't specify only guns that some people like, only hunting rifles or anything else.
you want same sex marriage - fine
you want to murder your own babies - fine
you want to take my right to protect myself with the gun of my choice....BANG!
..i wonder what next she has lined up :)
Nice article.
Miss Rexroth is innovative in her curatorial approach and I was happy to see this coverage in the Pitch. Theresa Bembnister did a good job of conveying the experience that is the Subterranean Gallery. This sounds like an excellent blend of an on-line and on the wall exhibition.

What a nasty and poorly written bit of writing. The level of inspection feels superficial and even a little philistine, the whole piece marked by an ignorance that refuses nothing but the most cursory gee-whiz glance. It's a bummer this kind of schlock makes it into newspapers, but then again schlock is the norm as opposed to the exception. I'm also glad that the writer chose to go out of their way to kick around a young artist at a sensitive point in their career, another hallmark of their keen sense of responsibility. Blech.
this photograph shows a scene from "back country permit", does it not?
Many thanks to Tracy Abeln for this thoughtful article about Don Reitz and his career. We are very proud of this exhibition. And thanks to The Pitch for making space for art coverage.

This is a fabulous show. Don't miss it!
I think Hansen's project was brilliant. The fact that there was such a 'problem' with her original plan only brought more attention to the exhibition and that's a good thing. This is an important conversation that more people need to be having. Well done Amber!
If you are remotely associated with farming, and you are by living in Kansas, you have the opportunity to go meet chickens, cows, pigs, etc. at your local farmer's house. I am sure they will let you go commune with the cattle. If you pay them, they will even let you keep it. I would think it refreshing to see you walk your cow, and pick up its mess on the sidewalks, and have conversations with it, and "know she loves you back." No.. wait, chickens love you back... cows are bitter because "Everything tastes like chicken!" I invite everyone to have a pet cow because it so stupid some freshman at KU would probably try. Get real you morons!!
Great article. Thanks for returning the spotlight to this project, Theresa. I hope those who caused this online ruckus in the first place acknowledge the diluted result of what the artist originally intended. Would Hansen better serve her coops by placing signage that attracts attention and explains WHY there are empty coops strewn about?
I knew John in the early 1970's and was sad to find out he passed away and happy to find out that he continued to paint ( I loved his work back then and wish I could find some images of later work on the internet), cook, give and entertain. He was a sweet man. May his creative soul continue his journey on the other side.
I saw that Arnie Young (drummer extrordinaire) had a site, read his mention of John, Mike Randall and Mike Temple and it brought back so many memories. I was the Canadian contingent back then with all those talented artists and musicians. Bruce Ricker, jazz film maker who made his first film in KC, passed away last month, was my first husband. Seems like so many of the people from back then are gone, David Upsher, Randy Sterck, Gina Greenlease, Bruce Ricker, John Puscheck. Peace to all of them.

I loved this show, thanks for writing about it!
