The only way to get a rat sick is to use DeCon on pizza.

"Ok, I agree with cleaning up the Meth problem it is out of control. But I don't think you picked the right sorry to compare it too. I watched the video of that woman getting pulled over, and them two officers did there job."

Whoa !!!!! They were doing there job? If they were just doing their job why did they get fired? or are you saying KCPD fires people for doing their job?

Re: “A Dispatch from Methpendence

Paula, "the biggest wave of meth problems were extinguished a few years ago" sounds like there is a real grip on the problem. That is not the case. Good for you for leaving the 'scene', as you call it. I worked in a substance abuse treatment facility, so I also have first hand knowledge of the problem. Certainly there are other drug problems, but while crack is more prevalent in the urban core, meth is the dominant force around here and it is still a huge problem. That was my point. The city could do more to address the drug problems if they worked on improving the older parts of the city instead of throwing money into the rich folks part of town, where they don't need it. I am sick to death of no sidewalks or broken up sidewalks rising out of the ground all over the central and western part of town. And, quite frankly, I disagree with you about the Indep. Police-they CAN do something about it if they did more patrolling of neighborhoods and showing a presence to 'Serve and Protect'. They might actually get some respect from residents. Instead, I see them running radar on main runs, harassing teenagers or anyone that has brown skin, etc. And you can say it isn't so until the cows come home, but you are just fooling yourself. I have called them about a stranger walking in our neighborhood late at night with no apparent purpose. They not only did not come quickly to check it out, they NEVER even showed up. Again, I am sure there are some good cops, but that is not the predominent behavior we see here. Don't really know the reason. Maybe we don't pay enough to draw the 'committed to change' officers that we need. I don't know what the answer is, I just know what I have seen over and over.

Re: “A Dispatch from Methpendence

Put on your glasses, 'Wakeupeople'! Did I ever say there WASN'T ANY Meth problem in Indep? What I said was can that ever be stopped, in reality? Sure there is still some Meth 'Production' in our area, but with the downfall of the Dun*** Era, or Mul****, or any other has-been name I could pinpoint, The subject at hand migrated AWAY from the Indep. area. (up north, into Kansas, south into Rural areas, etc...)Independence became 'no longer the hot spot'. As for burying my head in the sand, let me tell you.....I meet people every week that are on a downward spiral due to drug abuse. They are men, women, teenagers, and the families of the people. And I see the worst of the worst of them. I know how real the DRUG problems of our society are. NOT Meth problems.....DRUG problems. You get me??? Do all of you think that Heroin doesn't destroy a person, or a family????? Or Crack, or any other substance that we can place a label on???? For those that zoom in on Independence and Meth, You are wearing blinders to the big picture of the drug and alcohol problems of our communities. By the way, if you think I don't know what I'm talking about, you are so far wrong. I used to be a very active part of the very 'scene' that you all claim to know so much about. I know the history, and I know the facts. I also know that over 9 years ago, I decided I was tired, and I made a change, and I've been clean since. Completely drug and alcohol free. So, believe me, 'Cops' can't stop drug problems. That's not how it works. Wake up to reality everyone. Look at the big picture.......

Re: “A Dispatch from Methpendence

I have to agree with this comment and I will add that I have lived here in Indep. all my life and the cops here are notorious for 'roughing' people up and for harrassment. That is a fact. Of course, there are good cops in Independence, absolutely, they just seem to have more than their share of 'bad' cops that up their manhood by beating the crap out of others. And to the last person that commented, if you think Meth is not a problem in Indep. anymore, well you just have your head buried in the sand. Talk to the school nurses to start with. They see the kids of these families and they know the problems that are going on. There is a huge Meth problem and you should also know that there are an excess of pit bulls and other dogs that are TRAINED to be guard dogs that 'protect' the 'investment'. The breed is not bad, it is the trainer that is bad. Until the city of Independence starts fixing up the sidewalks, streets, and neighborhoods in the heart of the city instead of giving TIFs and putting sales tax money into the wealthy SE part of town, the problems for Indep. will continue to grow, and that includes Meth. You are correct about the Harley's-that is a totally irrelevant comment. Harley riders are certainly NOT the problem!

Re: “A Dispatch from Methpendence

Oh, give me a flippin break! Is that paragraph of crap meant to be a plug for your
favorite business establishments, or are you 'processing' deep hidden resentments that you really should be dealing with along with help from a shrink? Get a clue!!!!!!! I've been in the area my whole life, born and raised in INDEPendence. Noland road has the same kind shops and stores as it's had long before the booming meth
era. And besides, how would they fit anymore in. INDEPendence has good school districts, plenty of revenue, lots and lots of stores of all kinds, and hasn't been through what so many other neighborhoods have gone through in terms of urban blight. If you think the area is so distressed and non-fuctional, then maybe you should take a drive down to the Banister area. But you have to at least open your eyes enough to think outside your little pathetic box, to even catch on to what I'm getting at. I think you are a few current events behind on news, considering that the biggest wave of meth problems were extinguished a few years ago. Every city, every suburb, and even rural areas have their own problems & supplies of crack, meth, heroin. Do you think that can be stopped?!? I would imagine, if you think you have the magic solution, all levels of law enforcement would love to hear it. Maybe you could even give a demonstration; since you seem to have all insight, that is. I bet they'd even buy you breakfast.....a dozen doughnuts, maybe. And speaking of doughnuts, that's my favorite food group you're picking on there. I guarantee you that I eat more d-nuts in a week, than 1/2 of the department put together. And further more.....what the hell does Harley Davidson have to do with the price of rice in China, tea in England, or ale in Germany???????? Pleeeeeaaaaase! You are too much! I am friends with several people, who ride Harley's, and have been drug and alcohol free for anywhere from 10-35 yrs.
And one more note: I know a couple of IPD officers, very well actually. One was a big part of my life for almost 5 years. And I'm telling you, clueless is what you are if you think your little fantacy perfect image of what you think they should be doing is even close to being on track. Next time, gather all the facts.

Re: “A Dispatch from Methpendence

Ok, I agree with cleaning up the Meth problem it is out of control. But I don't think you picked the right sorry to compare it too. I watched the video of that woman getting pulled over, and them two officers did there job. That woman made a big deal out of nothing, I believe those cops would of done the samething no matter what color the person was. And as far as being pregnant, when I seen her on the news it was hard to tell she was carring a baby, so THINK ABOUT IT... it was on a busy highway at night when she was pulled over. As soon as the officers knew it was not the person they were looking for, they apoligized and helped the woman up. And I swear to F***** GOD you would think the way the media carried on that, that poor woman was on her stomach for hours well it was more like less then 40 SECONDS!!!!!! Come on the NAACP wouldn't even call her back after they seen the video tape. I know there is still racial acts that go on, which is sad, but this time thats not what this was about. So please move on, there are more bad things out there that could use some attention.....
