Re: “You Go, Coppers

This is a perfect example why people living in the downtown area are leaving. Condo / "Loft" living is not safe. You are confronted by homeless people all the time asking for money or bus transfers. You just do not feel safe in the downtown area especially at night.
Apparently nothing is going to be done about the situation. What a shame since personal safety is such a big factor for a single professional woman. If the downtown revitalization project fails it will be no big secret as to why.

Re: “You Go, Coppers

What a joke. The law is unconstitutional ? Determined by who the Courts? So lets see now KCPD is not only Law Enforcement but the Courts themselves. What happened to the separation of powers? I guess KCPD doesn't think it's unconstitutional that they are playing the role of the courts. Go Figure. :(

Re: “You Go, Coppers

I agree with some of the rules listed here but I don't agree with what you have said about the anti-panhandling ordinance... I live here in midtown and it is total pain to go to any gas station or heck all you have to do is drive past any light and you will have people comming up to your car asking for money or a cig... I am sorry about their situation but come on how many of them are on the street because they decided that they wanted drugs or booze, came to work drunk or high and got fired, and their families decided that if they wanted the booze or drugs that they have to get out of their lives... so yeah let feel sorry for someone that as soon as you give them $5.00 to get a burger or soemthing else to eat and all they do is run to the liquor store or to their dealer to get their fix... So yeah it is so unconstitutional to stop them from the panhandling but isn't public intoxication and drug dealing a major problem in the midtown area??? well since I live in the area I can say "YES IT IS"!!!!! I can look out my front window and look out at the corner of 38th and Walnut and see drug deals going on all hours of the day and night, not to mention the people that I see stumbling by that are higher then a kite or drunker then a skunk, now granted all of the people that I see out at the corner are not asking for money when I go to the gas station BUT there are several that does... I know that if they were to enforce the panhandeling law it wouldn't stop it all the drug and drinking problems here in midtown but I am sure that it would decrease alot...

Re: “You Go, Coppers

I see the point you are trying to make, but please tread with care. The liberty memorial is the only WW1 monument in the United States, it is covered with bricks enscribed with World War 1 veterans all over the grounds. You should clearly watch what you say, have some respect!

Re: “Exported Kobach

You have to love Chris Kobach.

He takes the Governor's Dollar from Missouri.

Where does he live? You got it: Lexusland, aka Johnson County, Kansas.

What does he promote on his weekly dead of Sunday night radio show on KMBZ? You got it, Kansas Republican politics.

Methinks we need a residency requirement in Missouri to take the Governor's Dollar.

Re: “Beachfront Plague

Good one David, I was totally thinking of the "just build somewhere else thing" too. Most people don't want anymore nature than a few bugs they can spray, maybe a bird, , maybe a dog to hit on the nose.

It would be cool when they either protect some of these areas or "return them to nature" to bring in a couple grizzlies and a cougar or two. Now that'd be interesting.

"We can only imagine the kind of guy who hunts poisonous rattlesnakes for fun, and we wonder if maybe we'd see a little real-time Darwinism if they'd leak the secret to a few."

You should check out www.fieldherpforum.com. You'll learn that not everyone who "hunts poisonous (venomous, actually) rattlesnakes for fun" is a hillbilly wack-job. Most are normal people with an appreciation for and an interest in science and nature....which is more than I can say for the average American citizen.

The only thing that worries me about this relocation project is the possibility that the snakes in this area will attempt to make their way back to their hibernacula and be killed in the process. I'm not too worried about it though. The biologists and conservation agents leading the project are smarter than me and have already looked at how the move will affect the snake population.

Stop developing the small pockets of land that harbor snakes and you won't have to deal with the "evil" things. Or maybe you could put down your grande latte and designer handbag. Pick up a field guide and take a walk. Learn to appreciate everything about nature, not just the manicured, fluffy-bunny-hugs type pseudo-nature that land developers try to sell us.

Re: “Popcorn Tubs Runneth Over

KC is copying another idea from another city.

I had some guests with me from FL. One woman checked out the sparse crowd and was
shocked at all the fatties. In Miami, the baseball crowds are about as sparse as at the K but the viewing is good as even in a small crowd there are sure to be some glorious babes.

Re: “Popcorn Tubs Runneth Over

Don't look now but the Royals are playing much better. They may still be in last place but they are competitive and many games over the last six weeks have been exciting.
