Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

the last time that this was voted on in Kansas was April 2005, the "Kansas Marraige Amendment". The measure passed by 70%. Mind you this 2005. An entire decade ago. Maybe I'm crazy, but A LOT has changed since then. So Jim needs to reevaluate his use of exclaiming that this violating the desires and views of Kansans. I live in Wichita and the most of the only people I know that are against gay marriage, were born in 50's or older. Almost everyone I know is either for it, or has the (correct) mentality of: "it's not my life. Why stop someone from being happy and getting the benefits they deserve when choosing to spend their life with someone". My original point is that times are changing. I know that older people sometimes have a harder time adjusting to change when they were brought up a way that corresponded with the way society functioned at that time. But the generations after are being raised differently, as times change, views change, LAWS change. It took 100 years for this country to end segregation. And I'm sure people who were brought up in that time had a real fucking hard time adjusting to black people coming into their business and sitting in the front of the bus with them. BUT LOOK AT US NOW! 65 years later a black man is president. Funny how times change and things become acceptable that you never would have believed would happen because of he time period you grew up in and the way you were raised. But hey, whatever.

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

No one has labeled anyone a bigot; their actions have labeled them. If you belong to a fringe group of people who can't understand that love, all love, is a reflection of the love Jesus Christ had for humanity, then you are part of the problem. Fortunately, it seems the solution is moving along without you. Hopefully, you will realize how far from the love of humanity(read Jesus) you've fallen and will repent your foolish and wicked ways. Get on with the Loving! Marry whom you will because THAT is the love of God.

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Sorry Sam, under the US Constitution we have the right to contract irregardless of sex, race etc...and your contract in one state also has the full faith and credit of the law as you go to another state. Pretty basic stuff. Marriage, while often cloaked in religion and tradition, is nothing more than a contract between two people. Many people are atheists and other people do not get married in a church yet are still allowed to get "married" because they signed a contract down at the county courthouse. So keep your holier than thou, better than my "morals" out of it. Marriage is a legal contract between two people of any sex...

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Today's decision isn't a loss for religious freedom. It doesn't remove the will of the people. It isn't a slippery slope. It is; however, a wonderful, beautiful acknowledgement that everyone, everywhere has the right to share in the joys of marriage that is guaranteed by our Constitution. And that, my friends, is a victory for the state, the entire nation and the world.

Thank you AEG PR Department for attacking me in such a childish manner. Are you all still stuck in the 7th grade? Dispute the facts please. Why do you not want a sports team in the Arena? Oh, yea, Disney On Ice was the highpoint of your life.

Re: “Here's some local reaction to today's Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states

"Then is it your plan that when a business (the corner flower shop run by the old Muslim lady), refuses to sell you flowers for your gay wedding, that you immediately cry foul, and sue the shit out of her shop for discriminating against a "fundemental right" of your personal experience?"

You can run your personal life how you want but businesses have rules and regulations. You don't have a fundamental right to run a business however you want. You don't pay over time and you get punished. You sell liquor after a certain hour and you get punished. You practice discriminatory hiring practices then you get punished. You refuse someone service due to race or ethnicity then you get punished.

"It is not simply you do your thing, and I do my thing. Society doesn't work that way. Your belief will be pushed until kids are it's instead of he's and she's. It's bullshit."

Don't agree with the curriculum of the free schooling that the government and tax payers provides? Then your job as a parent is to instill your values and teach your kids to think critically. You can also home school or have a financial plan in place to send your kids to a private school that instills the values you choose.

"BECAUSE IT'S AGAINST THE LAW TO BE HATEFUL."

It is literally not against the law to spout hateful bullshit in your private home. Hell, do you really want a straight pride parade? Apply for permits. Get stonewalled by the city? Go contact the ACLU and I am sure they will help you get all the permits you need. If you want discriminate in your business then, yeah, that is against the law. You can claim "religious liberty" all you want but your religious belief does not and should not trump the rights of others.

Despite my beliefs, even Jim is allowed to marry whoever he chooses. Let's just hope he doesn't reproduce!

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Jim, you are right that businesses can refuse service to anyone. As long as the reason they refuse service isn't based on the person's race, creed, or sexual orientation. when a business owner signs the application for their license, they agree to these terms. So by refusing service to a gay couple, a black person, or a Muslim, they are violating not only their business contract with their city, but also the 14th amendment to the United States constitution. Your rights only extend as far as you don't violate someone else's.

Re: “Here's some local reaction to today's Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states

Andrew,
Then is it your plan that when a business (the corner flower shop run by the old Muslim lady), refuses to sell you flowers for your gay wedding, that you immediately cry foul, and sue the shit out of her shop for discriminating against a "fundemental right" of your personal experience? Is it your intention to prosecute me for "hate crimes" for telling my kid that you are immoral? ... You don't get the point. ALL religious objection can now be prosecuted as hate crimes and discrimination. I'm not saying that you will, but do you really think the left media will run the headline "religious liberty wins" over "hate crime prosecution?" ... Nieve leftist. Homosexuality is not normal (the general consensus is that it is still a minority "genetic" effect). So... When the elementry schools start confusing YOUR kid on gender (which is a biology question, not a psychology question), maybe you will object. It is not simply you do your thing, and I do my thing. Society doesn't work that way. Your belief will be pushed until kids are it's instead of he's and she's. It's bullshit. So... when is the next straight pride parade? Oh there isn't one? Right. BECAUSE IT'S AGAINST THE LAW TO BE HATEFUL... or whatever.

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Look, Bob. I'm sure are rational. But, it's just like the sign says at most restaurants. "We reserve the right to refuse service." Generally, that is meant to be able to throw drunk people out on their ass if they get rowdy. However, what differentiates that reserved right in a restaurant, ... or a flower shop, or a "for profit" wedding chapel? Simply put, if the business ower doesn't want to do it, he/she shouldn't be forced by the government to provide service. Th US Supreme Court ruling provides legal backing to force compliance based on discrimination laws while running roughshod over religious freedom protections. Once marriage is "a fundemental human right" ANYBODY denying that based on religious objections is subject to discrimination lawsuits. Yes, this applies to MUSLIM mosques, too. Do you really want that fight? Also the states that passed bans on gay marriage by state constitutional amendment REQUIRED a 2/3 vote by the people of that state to actually get the amendment in the state constitution. This ruling by the Supreme Court DESTROYS the will of the people in those states as passed on a super-majority vote. You cannot deny that is dangerous precedent. Nine justices ruling that 2/3 of a state's popular vote is void? It's bullshit.

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Brownback, you do not speak for all Kansans...plenty of us here in Kansas did not vote for you. In fact, you barely won the last election at exactly 50.0% of the vote (source: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2014/governor/ks/kansas_governor_brownback_vs_davis-4146.html), and that's after your opponent's campaign went downhill just weeks before the election due to an arguably ridiculous "scandal" that your campaign base smeared all over the state (source: http://www.redstate.com/2014/09/20/paul-davis-kansas-values-busted-getting-strip-club-lap-dance/).

I know plenty of Kansans (*including* those who are active Christians - imagine that!) who are celebrating the SCOTUS ruling today. The people of this state are not one and the same - we are not all homophobic bigots. Deal with it.

Re: “Here's some local reaction to today's Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states

"So when I tell my future child that homosexuality is immoral, I get labeled a bigot."

You are certainly free to tell your future child that sort of thing but it is certainly my right to think that you are a bigot for spreading hate. Freedom of thought and speech doesn't just apply to you.

"War is at hand. You caused it liberals. You caused the OPPRESION of people.Get ready for the next new wave religion. Bow down to the God of Political Correctness. Thy name is government!"

Ha. This sort of thing never stops being funny. Gay people can get married and now that means that (somehow) you are being oppressed. Hyperbole isn't just a literary device for you but rather a state of mind. IT'S POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD! IT'S JUST LIKE NAZI GERMANY! Except that you can still go to church on Sunday, shoot your guns at the range, fly your flag, and have your bigoted beliefs. There is literally nothing stopping you from doing any of this.

Re: “Sam Brownback isn't happy about the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage

Jim, your analogy is terribly flawed. If the government was forcing heterosexual people to marry same sex partners, or forcing priests/rabbis/imams/etc. to perform or sanction same-sex marriage, then yes, that would be oppression. You still can "conscientiously" object to same-sex marriage all you want. You can not marry a guy, you can not perform or attend a gay wedding. What you can not do, is discriminate against gay people, just as you can not discriminate against black people, or jewish people, or whomever. Do you think people should have the right to withhold services from interracial marriages? What about an older woman/younger man or, well, any other combination you can think of?

No it doesn't. But tell your fellow employees at AEG hello for me. By the way, AEG makes more than what the city gets. Sounds like a win for the taxpayers to me.

So richie - the fact that the Sprint Center is consistantly in the top arenas in the country for attendance and even in the world, and pays huge dividends to the city doesn't qualify it in your little mind as being a success?
