Re: “The (sales) tax man cometh for Kansas City, Missouri, voters [updated]

Not sure I fully understand how on North Oak Trafficway the sales tax at Sam's Club is 8.1% on purchases, yet the Wendy's across the street charges 11.13%. Guess I'm missing something.

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

We are ten to fifteen years away from driverless cars. Imagine how silly these streetcars would look then. The streetcar project is not a thoughtful solution to transportation problems. It's a high-priced gimmick.

Re: “Big money flowing into the streetcar campaign

Please they are donating because of course of their concern about KC's poor. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they will be fleecing the taxpayers for billions.

To simplify, if Monsanto is for it, vote NO.

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

We are being told that this is one of the most important ballot measures in Kansas City history YET only certain KC residents will be allowed to vote (not all voters). Sly and all his political cronies are licking their chops with the billions to come their way. Once again just like the Sprint Arena and the stadiums they proclaim that poor inner city residents will be in line for more jobs, more development in distressed neighborhoods--another basket full of hollow promises soon to be forgotten. The feeder lines designed to actually reach the poor down Linwood and Prospect way will never be built as the budget is purposely underfunded. What we will be left with is a pricey Main Street line from downtown to the Plaza so yuppies can hop on and off once a year and say how hip they are. This plan is not designed for the poor but the bankers, lawyers, real estate speculators, construction companies--all the usual suspects. Thank God for Freedom Incorporated one of the very few inner city groups that can't be bribed, has morals and is smart enough to know what incredible deceipt is behind this scam. VOTE NO!!!

Re: “Your August 5 streetcar and Amendment 7 tax questions answered

This streetcar idea is wacked. We have a bus and buses go faster than streetcars, and can reroute if there is trouble up ahead. Like Obama's visit today blocking all traffic on Main. If we had had streetcars today they would have been stopped for hours. People would have been late to work, late to class. Buses can reroute one block over.

Re: “Another Kansas abortion clinic has closed; state now down to three

Alimal,
This is Jack(No.2), and I just wanted to point out that abortion providers ARE NOT THE ONLY PLACE TO OBTAIN OB/GYN SERVICES in Kansas. Women are not being denied health information IN ANY WAY! So, thanks for playing. Buh Bye. :-)

Re: “"Right to farm" doesn't mean farming right. Far from it

Of note to getting this on the ballot is Missouri Sen. Kiki Curls from the 9th district.

In the Missouri records, Ms. Curls was originally against this amendment when it was being argued. However it was Ms Curl's single vote that changed and got it onto the ballot after several failed votes in the Senate. Now the PAC Ms Curls is aligned with, Freedom Inc, has distributed a flier in several local media sources supporting a "yes" vote on this amendment. So what changed? Why did a Senator representing an almost entirely urban district suddenly get interested in farming? Looking at campaign disclosure records could it be the paid for trip to Israel by biotech groups? Was it the dinners paid for by Monsanto and other Ag groups? Was it all the jobs it will create for the 9th district? I guess we'll never know. But I fail to see why this amendment would do anything to help the 9th district.

If this passes her district can look forward to relief from the "food desert" by more processed food as a source of nutrition in an area known for higher rates of heart disease and diabetes.

Re: “Is it time to close the gates on Cliff Drive permanently?

That doesn't make much sense, closing it off because *some* people can't learn to drag themselves into the 21st century & treat their environment with respect. Begin imposing fines, post signs. If they continue, monitor. It's not just Cliff Drive. People in KC/Independence generally/regularly disrespect their surroundings. The City would do well to post signs. Impose fines for those who don't or won't read & heed the message. People can be trained, well most can. For those that can't or won't learn, there are more harsh penalties. It's really simple ->train the nitwits, fine the abusers, because the rest of us shouldn't be penalized by their actions. That's just bass-ackwards.
