Re: “Does Stretch have $20 million to keep fighting the streetcar?

Quityerbitchin- Crown Center is the only part of town that is actively positioning itself to remain relevant. It has always had hotels, tourist attractions, theatres, and shopping. Now it has the two hottest children's attractions in town. It is a simple walk to a number of great restaurants and art galleries. Even more is coming this way. Get out and see the city. You might be impressed.

Re: “Friends of KCI get thwarted by city charter, but the single-terminal opposition group will try again

the small minded minority that say that KC is fine is the same people that say that Kansas City doesn't need mass transit; and honestly that is sad, both of these projects are vitally important to the overall economic life of Kansas City. Kansas city needs these projects and the people who like to say things shouldn't change are the same types of people that said back in the early 1900's that we don't need cars we have perfectly good horses. have you ever been to a city with a nice airport where you can buy food, coffee or anything else you would like right there in the terminal and take it right onto the plane. Kansas City airport is not a friendly airport to fly into or out of because of these facts and a lot of others. Do the people saying we don't need this even travel, if you don't you shouldn't worry about it, it's not like it is coming out of taxpayer dollars and the only people who should worry about this are the people who use KCI all the time.

Re: “Shauntay Henderson can't buck conviction in appeals court

How smart do you have to be to get caught with a gun after getting paroled for shooting someone?

Do society a favor, and throw away the key.

Re: “Does Stretch have $20 million to keep fighting the streetcar?

WHEN it expands to westport and the plaza, it WILL increase business and WILL help tourism.

Re: “Burger Stand's Robert Krause is ready for his next restaurant

I ate at Esquina right after it first opened and I really liked it. But then the menu changed and things just got weird. I LOVED The Burger Stand and defended it over and over again when friends would tell me horror stories about raw hamburgers and terrible service. I continued to eat there until a cockroach crawled across my table when I was waiting on my burger one afternoon. I told the cashier and her response was, "Would you like to switch tables? We usually only see cockroaches around that one table." I got a refund and left. Maybe the issue with both of these places is that lots of love and energy is put into starting them, but not a lot of thought or effort is put into their follow through?

Re: “The Black Keys' blues attack, last night at Sprint Center (review)

Given the local popularity of The Flaming Lips, it makes little sense that you would miss them.

"that's the one that goes Da da da da da/Da da da da da."

"which is the one where he whistles at the outset "

"I can't pinpoint exactly the secret to the Black Keys' success, but I'd guess it has something to do with that music-to-pomp ratio. "

Perhaps it's your aesthetic, which is fine, but your reviews come off like you could give a shit - about being a music/show critic, the band in question, writing in general - and you get very defensive when called out.

Please review some Tim Finn and try again.

Let's hope the reviewer wants to be there this time... and goes for all days.

Re: “Zagat tabs Oklahoma Joe's, Arthur Bryant's to represent Kansas & Missouri

Throw my hat in the ring with Dinklemeyer. LC's for the win. I guess I'm tired of the only BBQ joint in town being OK Joe's. Enter bitch-fest stage left.

Re: “Does Stretch have $20 million to keep fighting the streetcar?

If you don't want to live in a real city then move to Johnson County. I applaud KCMO for being proactive and trying to compete with other cities to attract jobs and talent.

Stretch is a self-promoting hack. I for one will not be going back to Grinders until he drops this ridiculous lawsuit.

Re: “The Black Keys' blues attack, last night at Sprint Center (review)

Beer cut off at Sprint Center for a concert is 1 hour before end of show. Not Sprint Center's regulation - the city's.

Re: “Councilman Russ Johnson turns down Clay Chastain's debate challenge

I am in favor of some sort of rail line in Kansas City, but this guy does more harm than good to the cause. He could fuck up a wet dream.

Re: “Does Stretch have $20 million to keep fighting the streetcar?

From what I can tell, this thing is a toy, not real public transportation. A rail line would help KCMO be more of a real city. This on the other hand, not so much.

Re: “The Black Keys' blues attack, last night at Sprint Center (review)

I searched for a review of last night's show to see if anyone else was disappointed. I'm no stanger to their live shows, at least via You Tube, so I had a good idea of what to expect. I found the sound quality to be lacking (I was on the lower level) and it just seemed like Dan & Pat were trying to power through the show with a ramped-up tempo and weak, trailing vocals. I totally get that they're bare-bones, no frills, little communication artists. I actually dig that. It's all good. I just felt like they didn't want to be there. Could it be that they're better for smaller, more intimate venues? I expect there to be deviations from studio tracks at live shows, but man... if I hadn't had a visual lock on the band, I wouldn't have known who was on stage. Maybe my expectations were set too high. Maybe I'm a bit sore that I paid 198 bucks on three tickets & found it hard to sing along to my favorite "new" band. Maybe when I catch their show in 20 years, they'll have become veterans and I'll be one of those annoying old cougars dressing far too young. I bet The Keys and I will have a more entertaining evening.

Dan, Pat- if you happen to be reading this, know that I'm still a fan. I'll still purchase hard copies of your albums so I can feel them in my hand, I will continue to sport my Black Keys shirts. Your work will remain on heavy rotation on the old IPod. Peace & love to you and your families.
